My Ba Chan passed away last week at 84 years old and your videos have been letting me see her homeland in the way I myself think id enjoy it if I went there! My wife and I went to okonomiyakimura when we visited Hiroshima. It is so awesome! We then drove from Hiroshima through the Seto Inland islands to Matsuyama. It is a popular cycling route as well and the views are unbelievable!

This is the second video I’ve watched of yours (really great so far btw) and I’ve noticed you talk about the train situation quite a bit. The trains I have been on here in the US (Illinois specifically) and they aren’t as nice but it seems relatively similar to all the things you seem to love about Japanese trains/stations. Chicago is a really great place to travel by train and the union station is cool! No bag checking or attendants bothering you (other than waking you up for your stop if you’re on one of the longer distance trains!
I agree on the feel you get from taking the train. I took it from downtown Denver to their airport eight years ago. It sure felt like you got to see everything you otherwise would have missed.

I am however a bit of an anime nerd and have used Duolingo enough to get a few ultra basic words across. It is true that a large portion of the population does not speak English.

We've been to the exact same okonomyaki place but a lady was cooking that day. generally speaking i was prety positively surprised by hiroshima. I really enjoyed the visit
I was born and raised in Hiroshima, and in my decades of experience, this behavior is not a problem. Some people even eat directly with a spatula larger than this, and this small size is made to be easy to eat directly.

I first had okonomiyaki in Osaka and loved it, didn't think the Hiroshima style would be better. Right around where the A-bomb epicentre was, was an okonomiyaki restaurant with a really cool vibe. Needless to say, it surpassed all expectations
