Yeah I've been noticing this in my 6 years. From the beginning of my endetured servitude know as Lyft flex. But anywho, passengers cannot expect to save money at the cost of the drivers very needed profit margin. I don't blame the passengers. I don't blame drivers (like myself). I blame the companies who built this business model like they did.
The passenger should do their own research. No need to tell them cause they're gonna do what's best for them
I drive solely Comfort and XL due to pay, which lately is horrible even for those. When I want a ride if I'm out of town I will only request a comfort. I've had a couple of bad experiences, and my riders have told me absolute nightmare stories about some of the UberX rides they've had.
One woman told me of a ride where the drivers boyfriend was in the passenger seat, supposedly as her "bodyguard". The guy was solid gang tattoos, and she said she was scared to death the whole ride.
Another rider told me she had gotten a ride to the airport, there were so many dirty clothes in the trunk she could barely get her suitcase in. Then she was sitting on piles of dirty clothes in the back seat. The driver continually tried to bum money off of her because she was about to run out of gas.
I'll never use UberX.
On a different note, last weekend a woman told me she was waiting for me outside of a bar at closing time, a great surge area at that time. I stay in that area and take only short rides. Obviously people know that people standing around are waiting for an Uber (Lyft is not big here), so some random guy pulled up and told her he was her Uber driver. Since the car didn't match she asked for his name but he refused to give it, just demanded she get in the car. I pulled up about that point. The guy followed me almost to her apartment building, only about 1.5 miles, so I made a U-turn and headed back to the bar area where there are a lot of police. He took off when he realized what was happening. She sent me a really nice tip for that, sadly I never got it.
If there's a surge I'm going to take the ride. That coustomer getting out of the surge area is going to be waiting longer for a driver.
Only take the surge ride if they are close by and going a short distance. Don’t take the first ride

Surge pricing is their mechanism to keep lots of drivers, it automates the process of keeping drivers.
Information is right out of the Uber website.
Not all surge trips charge riders more
Step 1: Order a Lyft or Uber Black.
Step 2: Offer to Venmo the driver 10% less than the fare quoted.
Step 3: If they say yes; cancel the ride. If they say no; cancel the ride and get an Uber X at that point.
Step 4: Accept that you just made a friend and get their phone number.
Y’all riders have to get off these platforms!
Try doing Uber black in LA without a waybill, 2.5k ticket.
What’s the point in catching public transportation then later Ubering or Lyft it the rest of the way? Just stay your course on the pub trans and bring an electric scooter with you or stick your pedal bike on the front of the bus. Either rideshare companies or public transportation not both. Well unless you’re into wasting your time. Just remember your time is valuable. Don’t waste it.
I know Uber is charging more on surge pricing and drivers aren't getting anything extra here in Terre Haute Indiana (for hire)
This guy is why drivers have a bad reputation with the public 😂😂
Karma will eventually get this driver. Who knows he probably could be working for the company no doubt.

That wasn’t a real driver.
So these tips all boil down to waiting until the price goes down. Sure. Obvious. But here are some real tips:
1. Be ready to go when you order. You’re paying wait time after the driver arrives and waits 2 minutes. After 7 minutes (2 minutes on UberShare) drives can cancel and collect the cancel fee.
2. Know where you are going. Changing the destination mid trip can cost you more
3. Have a car seat for your child. Drivers will cancel and you’ll get charged the cancel fee
4. Order the correct vehicle. UberX drivers can only take 4 people. On UberShare you have to be solo.
5. TAKE YOUR STUFF. The returned item fee is $15 on Uber and $20 on Lyft to have a driver come bring you your items. Even for the fee drivers really don’t want to do that.
6. Don’t be a slob in the car. An Uber is not your kitchen, bathroom, bedroom. If you make a mess the driver is going to put in for a cleaning fee
