My piano teacher with many years of experience and who is a consummate expert -- a truly talented musician who knows a good piano when he sees, feels, and hears one -- went to several stores testing various models to recommend...verdict: the Yamaha P-125. I got it in black and really enjoy using and learning on it. I even got inspired to upgrade to the matching furniture-style wooden stand (L-125), three-pedal unit (LP-1), and open-air neutral headphones (HPH-150). Like my piano teacher, I also highly recommend it.
Ying Di - I have used it, yes. It’s a good app to change different settings instead of the hard buttons on the piano. I’m sure, though, there’s more on the app that I haven’t tried yet.
I am definitely buying this YAMAHA is ultimate choice. I am using already my YAMAHA keyboard since from 18 years!! Still today great sound. I bought during my school days in 2003.
Had a notification of a comment on my old comment here so thought I should do an updated comment now that I have over 3 years of play time on my P125. I will preface by saying I am happy with my purchase. The piano still plays well and I've thoroughly enjoyed having it. I don't play daily but I'd say every other day so have put many hours on the P125 with zero issues. Two suggestions for anyone buying one is to first... immediately get a better pedal. Just do it and throw the one that comes with it away. Second... get a good set of wireless headphones. I am a nightowl and with the headphones, I can play as long or as loud as I want without disturbing anyone. The keys on the p125 have a nice feel to them and when I first got it... I would go to the music store and play the real pianos but as time went on, I am now very satisfied with the feel fo the p125. It might not have quite the touch sensitivity of a grand piano but it works well and has held up great. The app is a nice feature and I used it heavily for about a year. Since then, I have primarily used mine without the app. I love the primary piano sound but also enjoy playing as an organ for some styles of music. Oh and some of the classic rock stuff i play does sound nice on electronic piano. Anyone debating on what piano to buy in this price range - I recommend the yamaha P125. It sounds great, plays nice and equally important, it is built well so you know your investment will last you for many years.
just a fun fact: Bass #1 can be set to the whole piano for a guitar sound since the piano does not have one built it also another fun fact: Bass #3 (when played at the very bottom of the piano) has a nice 808 bass sound
Hi I have the Yamaha 125. Hoping you could answer this question. Can I hook up a foot pedal to control the start/stop function of the on board drum machine only?
I've been looking over the P-125 in comparison with the Roland FP-30, and I have to say; though the Roland has a more "authentic" piano experience that would be fantastic for those looking to reproduce classical music with a realistic key action and feel, the P-125 with its huge polyphony, dual-track recording etc. is much better suited to people like me who are interested in creating contemporary pieces. I think I've finally made up my mind for what my first keyboard will be.
I bought a P125 about a month ago and love it. My only gripe is the pianist software does NOT work with android even though I was led to believe it did. I contacted Yamaha and they said they are still working on it. So if it already works on the higher end pianos... why still working on it for the P125? Really let me down on that and this is from a guy who owns lots of Yamaha sound gear and a Yamaha saxophone.
Vishal, the date just keeps moving forward. Originally was supposed to be done this Jan. Then they pushed back to May, then June and now you are saying July. This is totally unacceptable. I was sold on the app and now learn the app doesn't work. I've lost a lot of respect for Yamaha as a music company for doing this. Who are they using to do the code for this? Even college students could get it done faster than this. Yamaha is just being cheap and we as consumers suffer because of it. I will not forget what Yamaha did. Would much appreciate if anyone could answer this. Thank you for a GREAT affordable product .
there's about a 1 second delay when pressing the button to play back your recording which is quite frustrating, is it supposed to be like that? and is there a way to remove the delay?
Is it worth the extra money to buy the p515? I don't ever want to have to upgrade that is why I buy what I think is going to last me a lifetime. I play guitar but never played piano before.

Whats the diffrence with p-115 and p-125? When i compared it the only thing thats diffrence is the 'presets' for 20songs vs 14songs etc... is there an extra app or something you can only use on p125 and up? and not p115?
There are more instruments. It has the voices of 4 acoustic pianos. The sound engine is a bit different. The acoustic pianos sound better than the p 115
In the comments i see quite a bit of critiquing which is fine, but i'd still like to buy a yamaha p125 in the near future as my FIRST piano ever! I'm very excited to learn an instrument, if anybody has a tip for learning piano i'd appreciate it
Hi. Did you get your P125? Bought mine after it first came out and I love it. As far as learning, I play lead guitar and decided one day I would like to play some keys like Jerry Lee and the sorts. I started by learning all the chords and all their inversions, then moved on to minors and seventh and diminished. I will admit it took a while, but now I play keys and lead. Hang in there and never give up.
another update... now Yamaha is saying july on android support for smart pianist. What a disaster this is. If only I had known all this before I bought the piano. Yamaha should be ashamed of themselves. They could make this right but refuse to spend the money to get it done quickly. Thanks Yamaha for ripping off loyal customers!
@@ufosaboveus is this possible for a p115 aswell? Im debating whether im getting a p115 or p125... theres no notable diffrence between specs , only presets change a bit. But the price diffrence is an easy 200€ for it. So I was guessing the p125 , works with apps and p115 doesnt?

Hi I wanting to know. I have a 6.3mm male to 3.5mm female adaptor to put headphones into this piano. Although when we go to use the headphones all plugged in we can still hear the Piano aloud with the headphones in? Do you know if this is normal?

I've had mine for awhile and one thing that's a bit frustrating is that there's no way to loop after you've recorded something and no way to change the volume of something that you recorded if you're trying to play over it with an instrument that you want a different volume.
Maybe try recording via MIDI into a digital workstation like Studio One, Mixcraft or Reaper instead. Plenty of options like multi-track layering and sound manipulation.
PLEASE RESPOND: I bought the p45 and was dissapointwd you can’t actually hook it up to a pc or phone or anything tk record does this keyboard have that
I purchased the P-125. It is beautiful. BUT, I would like consumers to be aware the recommended i-UX1 cable (to use the Smart Pianist app) which is recommended uses the outdated 30-pin technology. So, after purchasing I-UX1 for $79.99, I had to purchase an Apple lightning to 30-pin adapter. Also, the reviews state that Apple will soon be discontinuing this adapter. The 30-pin connection is 7-8 years old. YAMAHA - where is the updated cable? We are in the era of smart phones, ipads and lightning cables. This is my only frustration with the purchase.
just be glad you are iPhone. I am android galaxy phone and tablet and neither work with my new P125. Yamaha says wait till may or june. Very disappointing when half the features of the piano are not available unless I use smart pianist app.
If you still have the manual you can see what specific rhythms there are but if not, hold down the rhythm button while pressing a key (towards the middle top of the piano) and the rhythm will change. The manual tells you exactly what keys trigger what rhythms.
You read the owner manual...it s quite well explained ...it s a little unpractical to do it due to function-key ( piano - rhythm - metronome , etiher single one one of those three - or two of those three - to hold down together and hit the apporopriate key on the keyboard while holding the function button(s) down. after which you still look at the user manual and find the right combination to set the transpose point. May be not be clear an anser but its nicely explained in the manuel - it s just not that easy to execute. And beware : you can save some settings (they call it Back up), but unless you do so most settings will revert back to factory settings after turning of and on the device. BTW this is not a critic specifically "agains" yamaha, most DP I tried have this same system (Roland uses it, Korg uses it, even "beethoven" and other "cheap" ones use this system of combinations of buttons and keys.
Hello Please i have a question. Iam trying to play a song from my library and is saying: The data cannot be selected. I try 1 month already and is same problem.
That is exactly my problem. If you are android user... Yamaha lied and your phone will not work with the P125. Not till July now. iPhone works fine but android users... Yamaha says who cares!
Simple answer is yes. You use midi over usb. It can be connected to an external amplifier because it has line out to connect to amplifiers, studio moniters, or a sound system.
that's not " Everything You Need to Know", I need to know how to connect the keyboard to external studio monitors, what cables to use, mono, stereo... so many questions
criticisms of this demo: 1. claims yamaha has great touch but does not specifically demonstrate ppp to fff dynamic changes. 2. does not explain if piano can be used as midi slave to play midi from computer and a bunch of other midi uses, such as if the chosen voice or reverb type can be midi command controlled etc. 3. doesnt discuss split mode other than bass, if it exists. 4. doesnt demonstrate audio thru speaker other than built-in speakers or explain how the piano audio in the video is recorded (by mic in the room or headphone/line-out of the piano). 5. doesnt explain pedal connection (pinout) to plug in alternate pedals other than the yamaha 3-pedal. buying decisions rest on these points.. not on the superficial "it comes in black OR WHITE!". fellow musicians claiming "that piano isnt giggable, you need a higher end keyboard".
Look up the users manual. It may help you. The only connectivity the p 125 is usb to host. You can connect the Yamaha pedals to it. I am currently using a studiologic sustain pedal with a Yamaha dgx piano
Everything you need to know? The one thing I need to know about the P125 was not even mentioned in this video: Which screws need to be removed, after you‘ve removed the 60 screws holding the two main pieces together, in order to get at the keys in order to fix a loud key.
You gotto press both metronome and rhythm button together and press the key u want to play in like if u wanna transpose say -2 count two steps below from middle C and press Bb and u can play with transpose of -2
I don t get it....this is definately NOT everything I want to know....nice to know all is the greates, wos 20 voices what an upgrade, .... what pedal does it come with ? can I use "standard" pedal ? How about that revolutionary app..for Android users ? How do all these functions work with just a few buttons (streamlines as they may be) and NO iphone or iPad ? what do the speakers sound like and is it powerfull engough to say play background in a noisy room ? nice I can record ..1 track/2track ? whats the memory size of this thing ? revolutionary usb to host...for mide - any bluetooth ?..... Sorry but this is just a marketing ? title for non explicative commercial video ....
To: Levi and Blonde: There may be some aspects which were not shown. The only way of satisfying yourself is to do your deep due diligent: Read and watch as much video as possible, look at the specifications, *Go see and test* the keyboard and have prepared questions. Take your comments with you in print in order to make comparisons. Even E-Harmony may look and seem glossy and great, initially, but for a serious long-term relationship, you will need to dig down further.
@@eddyvideostar you re right ofcourse , one needs to actually go and feel / use / play.... thats due diligence. There s no way any online thing can replace that. but thats wasnt my point - my point : don t call something "everything you need to know ", if it s just a practical demo - not to say commercial add - of a part of the user manual (which we can download). if I look at an "everything you need to know" (long !) video by the people actually making the keyboard...can t I expect to find more than just some demo (of which there are a load around) ?...and after watching it, if I still have my practical and technical questions...and you advice me to print those out and get out into the real world...don t you kindof prove my point ? Btw : I did my due dilligence, played on it (and others) in showrooms, used my (own headphones), played with settings, tried to thouroughly test it and others (with checklist at hand)...got thrown out from 1 store for doing so...they did NOT want me to connect anything to it... and finally bought this one. Quite pleased with it : it does only MIDI - uSB to host works great with Android (basic adapter) and windows (might need to get to the yamaha support site to download a driver) - does not do WAV and last but not least : FORGET SMART PIANIST on Android devices...until may/june 2019 you non IOs users will need 3rd party apps and programs to record / transfer and such...but USB to host is basic and compatible. Might be nice to know for some : FP30 by Roland has a fixed volume metronome, P125 has volume control for metronome and does NOT record metronome when using it to record onesself - rhtyms are quite nice (with or without lead in / lead out), bit weird : only memory for ONE user song. It comes with a fonctionnal square sustain pedal (plastic) that does not support half-sustain / standard pedal works on it (meaning a 20 buck metal one from amazon with a polarity switch) works on it - and for another answer to my own questions : Fonctions work with combinations of the few fysical buttons and the keys...and not all is indicated on the keyboard itsself...it does come with a little cardboard laying out all combinations...and one definately needs that if one does not have an Ipad. The settings much like other pianos (and even more expensive ones) are a b@tch...and basically printed above the keys there s only metronome settings, speaker on/of boost on/of,.. only a few easely acessible thingies. The Smart Pianist app works on Android, and it does (Eventually) recognise P125...it just says "your device is not compatible". And as far as the speakers go : actually quite good, if your head is in the right place you really feel in the center of things..on most voices..some voices are just mono / dull sounding, a few are extremely wide stereo. Anyways : was just trying to say : "everything you need to know" is a bit misleading, leads to expectations and those are just not met...(only my opinion)
Did my due diligence ....(such as actually trying it out, which in my opinion is too basic a thing to actually mention it) - I persist : this is just a demo...mistakenly called "everything you want to know". Unless ofcourse you actually see anything more than that in this video. Stores dont often and even hardly ever let one actually get answers, in my experience anyway. Ever tried to plug in even just your own headphones ? or a usb-key or even your own ipad if you have one in a store ? . Downladable manuals dont explain all that much either. Nice to know one can record a WAV file in the smart pianist app for instance - but what that s only for iOS users so any answer in here for those of us using a PC or android device ? Call it wining if you want to...but part of due diligince is getting as much info as is relevant to me and when Yamaha (because this is basically yamaha itsself) makes sure we find this kind of video with titling it "everything you need to know", then I think it s only fair one may expect at least SOME answers and NOT just a demo video. If that s wining so be it. Just my opinion.
Levi, if you are an android user, nothing on smart pianist will work for you. Just one of the those secrets that Yamaha and the stores will forget to mention till you buy the piano. The current wait is july but it was originally January then may, then june and now july.

Would the P85's wooden stand be okay with the P125? And the three pedal unit?
Is it the L-125 stand and LP-1 pedal unit? If so then yes
Can this be plugged through an mxr phase 90 then to an amplifier?
Yessir I think pedals work for any piano
You just sold me a P-125
If you still have your P125, would you please help me to know that if in the Smart Pianist App, the "Each Key Setting" option is working on P125? I need to change the tune of each individual key (scale tuning) and not sure if p125 is the right digital piano to buy!?
@@ardeshirsayah4435 I did not bye a P125 after all. All the best: Regnar.
Can you tell me if there's a transpose function on the P-125 ?
@@sophiellaneuburg2356 I did not bye it - sorry. But why dont you ask your dealer. Good luck Sophiella.
Can u record two different tones seperately and mix them in the keyboard?
Whats the diffrence with p-115 and p-125? When i compared it the only thing thats diffrence is the 'presets' for 20songs vs 14songs etc... is there an extra app or something you can only use on p125 and up? and not p115?
There are more instruments. It has the voices of 4 acoustic pianos. The sound engine is a bit different. The acoustic pianos sound better than the p 115
Stu at Merriam pianos thinks the the touch has subtlety improved though not mentioned by Yamaha
In the comments i see quite a bit of critiquing which is fine, but i'd still like to buy a yamaha p125 in the near future as my FIRST piano ever! I'm very excited to learn an instrument, if anybody has a tip for learning piano i'd appreciate it
Ashton R. Keep practicing
don’t give up!
Have you checked out Jeremy See? He has a lot of useful info.
Smart pianist for Android and p125, is this combo coming?
Yamaha is updating the app mid year to include the P121 / 125
It was supposed to be aleady working with android as of dec 2018 but now we have to wait till may or june.
another update... now Yamaha is saying july on android support for smart pianist.
@@BluezConcepts I thought I read on Yamaha website that smart piano would work with 115 and 125. Not sure though so ask Yamaha. Btw, still no firm date on it for android. I have nice galaxy 10inch tab ready to go if they ever get it done
Nice review from Gabriel--I love his style and presentation! I have been looking at keyboards for a while and trying some out. This keyboard and app combination has the features I would like to have and I ordered the Yamaha P125 today from Sam Ash. From the Cleveland, Ohio area--Cheers!
Does this keyboard work as a controller and can you use mainstage with it?
That’s exactly what I want to know
It has usb to host connection, so it can be used as a midi controller. If I get one, I plan on using it for that purpose.
Joe Ritchie cool! What computer program offers additional piano sounds?
Synthogy Ivory II, East West Quantum Leap, UVI instruments are a few that come to mind.
@@joeritchie8653 have you tried it as a Midi Controller? I need to know before buy it
Is it a plastic or metal carcass ?
I use MIDI and the midi instrument plays along with the p-125 instrument that its on. So how do I make it so ONLY the midi instrument plays on the speaker of the pi ano
READ THE MANUAL .....
How do I shift the entire pitch up or down?
Google it, I did and it worked.

Hi I wanting to know. I have a 6.3mm male to 3.5mm female adaptor to put headphones into this piano. Although when we go to use the headphones all plugged in we can still hear the Piano aloud with the headphones in? Do you know if this is normal?
do you mean , you can still hear the piano speakers , then just turn off the speakers. it's the D6 key
I bought one too. Great instrument for the price.
Peter Allen does it have transpose button ?

@@marioreyes6083 I'm pretty sure its on the app
So i can also use this as a midi keyboard for Ableton live?
yes
How?
Nice review
I've had mine for awhile and one thing that's a bit frustrating is that there's no way to loop after you've recorded something and no way to change the volume of something that you recorded if you're trying to play over it with an instrument that you want a different volume.
Maybe try recording via MIDI into a digital workstation like Studio One, Mixcraft or Reaper instead. Plenty of options like multi-track layering and sound manipulation.
PLEASE RESPOND: I bought the p45 and was dissapointwd you can’t actually hook it up to a pc or phone or anything tk record does this keyboard have that
Can you use headphones?
can it be as a midi controller too?
Yes it can. You use usb cable though and not midi
It amazes me as to the amount of people here that don't read the manual! (or are just to lazy) JUST AMAZING.....
Just read the users manual. All of the features are can be accessed with the app. The smart pianist app just makes it quicker to access the features.
@@ufosaboveus Use a printer cable and adapter for your phone. I do and it does work.
nice demo. thank you!
Ima buy one soon

Does anybody know how to change rhythms on this instrument?
If you still have the manual you can see what specific rhythms there are but if not, hold down the rhythm button while pressing a key (towards the middle top of the piano) and the rhythm will change. The manual tells you exactly what keys trigger what rhythms.
@@prisma8525 Thank you! Got it!
headphone jack ?? im confused ...
What's the first song he plays
Distant East
how the hell do i connect my p125 to my yamaha reface cp?
And how do you change the octave???????????????????
U just Sold me a p-121 which is identically to the p-125 but only 73 Keys.
He said android support is coming soon of Smart Pianist App.. this video is 2 years old.. Can I use this app on android or windows now??
I got the same question.. Somebody please answer..
Yes
Hello
Please i have a question.
Can I use it with a DAW software ??? I mean can I use it as a midi keyboard ???
And can I connect it with an external amplifier ???
I don't know what DAW means
I think you can use it as a midi controller
Yes it can connect to external speakers
Simple answer is yes. You use midi over usb. It can be connected to an external amplifier because it has line out to connect to amplifiers, studio moniters, or a sound system.
Again this god damn Gabriel Aldort Yamaha employee
Still not compatible with Android.
But now
That's a definite deal-breaker for me.
it is compatible , now at least for me it works both for android as well as iOS
@@AkshayDwivedi9 does it work now in android devices when it stated?
where is Blake ANgelos???
that's not " Everything You Need to Know", I need to know how to connect the keyboard to external studio monitors, what cables to use, mono, stereo... so many questions
There is line out, etc. It is included in the manual for the 125. You can look the manual up online.
@@joeritchie8653 Already purchased the piano :)

Love You!
Looks like fun
criticisms of this demo: 1. claims yamaha has great touch but does not specifically demonstrate ppp to fff dynamic changes. 2. does not explain if piano can be used as midi slave to play midi from computer and a bunch of other midi uses, such as if the chosen voice or reverb type can be midi command controlled etc. 3. doesnt discuss split mode other than bass, if it exists. 4. doesnt demonstrate audio thru speaker other than built-in speakers or explain how the piano audio in the video is recorded (by mic in the room or headphone/line-out of the piano). 5. doesnt explain pedal connection (pinout) to plug in alternate pedals other than the yamaha 3-pedal. buying decisions rest on these points.. not on the superficial "it comes in black OR WHITE!". fellow musicians claiming "that piano isnt giggable, you need a higher end keyboard".
Look up the users manual. It may help you. The only connectivity the p 125 is usb to host. You can connect the Yamaha pedals to it. I am currently using a studiologic sustain pedal with a Yamaha dgx piano
Gave a like for the "shazam!"
Wow I have one and didnt knew I could do most of these stuff.
Btw i find piano #1 bass too strong, anyone else?
I like Yamaha but you paying for the name I picked Casio px770 for same price, comes with stand and it have slide over keys cover.
Can someone buy me a clavinoa
Everything you need to know? The one thing I need to know about the P125 was not even mentioned in this video: Which screws need to be removed, after you‘ve removed the 60 screws holding the two main pieces together, in order to get at the keys in order to fix a loud key.
Is it just me or he lookin like the white version of Micheal Keegan?
I bought one and I am returning it. The speakers are terrible, which I didn’t expect.
Does This Have any ORGAN SOUNDS that Sound like a HAMMOND B-3????
Watched this whole thing looking to be shown how to transpose. Disappointed this important feature was overlooked.
You gotto press both metronome and rhythm button together and press the key u want to play in like if u wanna transpose say -2 count two steps below from middle C and press Bb and u can play with transpose of -2
@@samuelbetes3474 Thanks buddy, I was finally able to find it online. Good you put it here for others to find too :)
Same here... watched the video, unfortunately didn't explain how to transpose 😔
This guy is a goof. 😂
Levi Support Guru stop whining and just walk into a music store and test the keys yourself.
The current wait is july but it was originally January then may, then june and now july.
i want i want :(
