Good job speaking for Yamaha, I love their instruments, for years. Thanks, Gabriel, for having fun - a enthusiastic demo with this great instrument. Appreciate your versatility in playing. Looking to buy it soon!
A great demo as always thanks... I would appreciate a whole Demo on XG sounds please..? Also, as one other asked, Is there a "record song to Score function?.... Any arpeggiator anywhere? Perhaps through the app or other apps? 🙂
You're a terrific player, and Yamaha couldn't have picked anyone better to demo this instrument. I love Yamaha instruments. I only have one criticism of this digital piano and that is the weight. Casio makes the PX-160 and other models in the Privia lineup that sound terrific, have excellent touch, and are half the weight of this instrument from Yamaha. That extra weight means a whole lot when you are lugging to a gig.
Why doesn't it charge the iPad while connected? Also, you can't use the buttons on the piano while connected to the app! I really hope Yamaha updates it to allow this!
I was just about to buy this thing! So you say, you can’t operate the buttons when iPad is connected? Seriously? Gabriel? Care to comment? As to charging...if you connect by USB to HOST then iPad will never charge. It’s like that on all pianos. If you want to charge it then use a camera USB and LIghtning adapter. You connect USB A-B to USB adapter and a lightning charger and there you have it. Here’s the link for the adapter: www.amazon.co.uk/Apple-Lightning-Card-Camera-Reader/dp/B0197W665E. Let me know how it goes.
Lokalna F. I’m using the camera adapter...still doesn’t charge. No, the buttons on the piano DO NOT work when using the app, but they do on the p125, which makes no sense! Hope the update this to work.
JDSoftware55 Can you state what iPad and what adapter are you using? Also, I double checked the manuals for the 515 - it clearly states, that you will not be able to use the buttons while in Smart Pianist, so I don’t think there are any updates that will change that. It does however make sense to me in a way as that you use one settings from iPad and a second set of settings on the instrument ,but that’s a question for the architect of the instrument.
Lokalna F. iPad mini and iPad Air with the apple camera adaptor. The p125 CAN use the buttons while using the app, I would have assumed the more expensive model would be able as well.
I have a question please. I use a synth application on my Ipad that is connected to the Yamaha in usb , but I do not want my Yamaha Sustain Pedal to act on the software of the Ipad, I think we must act on the Midi settings but I do not know which one exactly. Thank you for your answers .
Why? The CFX is as good as any Steinway, better than most modern ones and the favorite piano of many great artists. I love the colors this instrument is capable to reproduce, its my favorite too, plus you have a Bösendorfer sample with that mellow signature tone
I had a session in a store trying out several digital pianos and I must say, after trying whole bunch of Kawai pianos, Yamaha seems like it’s so much heavier. This was even checked by Tony from Bonners music - he used a weight of 55g and yamaha keyboard was not giving in, so it turnes out it’s not just a feeling. Also - does it support AUDIO TO SCORE? Or is it limited only to CSP series?
I am shocked that in the score function, in the example given, Fur Elise, which is in the key of A minor, the leading note (7th degree of the harmonic minor scale), is shown as Ab!!! It should be G#. This could be so damaging and misleading for young and inexperienced players. Please sort it out. And Gabriel said "the best for last" before introducing this feature... I don't think so.
I am, by the way, a great fan of Yamaha stage pianos... Still waiting for something that betters the overall playability and usability of the 18 year old P120. Not tried the P515 yet, but hope to soon. Looks promising. But then so did the CP4...
Well spotted...I quickly realised that most scores offered via apps for a digital piano leave a lot to be desired...for example the ones I have seen on a Roland have no dynamic markings, no staccato markings...as a result I think is best to use imslp.org
I have to say, this sounds much better than my p515... dont know if settings have been altered for this demo, but by comparison mine sounds like listening to someone playing from another room, quite muddy.
@@agaveboy Thanks for the reply. I have factory reset several times, but still sounds muddy as if there is a wall between me and the speakers. I use both CFX and Bosendorfer, both are affected, the Bosendorfer sounding the most muddy as if the sound if boomy/bloated somehow. I have played around with EQs , Touch response, Reverb, Piano Room etc. While i can improve the sound with these, it still sounds off somehow. I also find the dynamic range to be lacking, i cant be as expressive as i would like to be. Regardless of touch response, i find that while the tone changes a bit, the actual volume stays about the same regardless how hard i play... If you have any ideas or suggestions then i am all ears. I am somewhat disappointed in the p515, have been since i got it really. I bought it based on listening to many youtube videos and liking what i heard, but out of the box i wasnt too impressed. Using headphones sounds better, but still not perfect. Thanks again.
@@gr3ywolf144 Also acoustics of the room where you play matters. Do you have big curtains and lots of other stuff packed around your piano? That always eats away some of the voice. Also, have you got used to an acoustic piano, maybe a grand piano? Of course no digital instrument is match for it. Not even the most valuable ones.
@@camfg8908 Hi. Thanks for the reply C Am F G. Yes i do have it in a room with curtains and quite a bit of stuff, carpets too. You think that can really affect the sound that much? No, i dont have an acoustic piano unfortunately.

Ah! I just got the new Kawai ES920 and talk about heavvvvy! These models are for pros, for sure! I have not played piano for 30 years, just starting again. But I'm optimistic that in a few months, I won't have to struggle with the keys. Now, the ES920 does have settings to make the touch lighter in the sense that you get the same volume with less finger intensity; I have to save the setting as a preset however, and have to figure out how. But till then, every time I turn it on, I can bring up the Piano Remote app and set it there. The action itself does not physically change; it is just the intensity with which you hit the key that changes. Ah, well, I can't return the piano to the mail order place so I'll just start and keep playing till either my fingers fall off or I built up finger strength and dexterity! :) But geeeeez, they ought to have a disclaimer on this!

At ~2:00, you (Gabriel Aldort) referred to Bösendorfer as "the oldest piano manufacturer in the world." Hardly. It was founded in 1828. If what you said were true, then Beethoven (who died in 1827) would hardly have composed anything for piano, now could he? Or Haydn (who died in 1809) or Mozart (in 1791) or Schubert (R.i.P. 1828). Please, if you're going to be spokesperson for a major producer of pianos, get your facts correct before trying wow us with them!
lol if you refer to someone as "the oldest person in the world" obviously you don't mean the homo sapiens seven million years ago. He was clearly referring to manufacturers that are still around today
