      There are a few more glitches including ways to get nearly all transformed species out of bounds for when you are transformed by mumbo. On the V1.1 cartridge of the game I found many glitches I coveted secretly that no one is using yet today either. Also Its not 100% speed run without all Easter eggs and the ice key. If you can get these without a gameshark without using in game cheats and only using glitches, I will be impressed. Few know these tricks.
      The V1.1 cart has a secret that I have been coveting for years. I was very bitter about my tricks being stolen as a kid and no credit being given so I never tell them to anyone! Tonight however, I am feeling generous considering you showed me a glitch that reminded me of a specific type of glitch I got very good at finding. Many N64 games have the ability to save data that is not supposed to be saved to the rom.
      You can save data to the rom and load it in very odd ways that should not be possible but it is for several carts. Here in lays the fun secret. you can permanently alter some game code using glitches and exploits and yes, even a gameshark to alter code that saves to the ROM for GOOD!
      Banjo Kazooie 1.1 can in fact technically be beaten much faster than this record or any of these records shown because not many know this is even possible. I love getting credit but I also hate the spotlight and as I said, I was bitter as a kid for stolen valor in a manor of speaking. So I still have hope someone gets this hint and understands what I am saying. You sir, discovered a new game plus glitch which is one method of forcing the game to save data incorrectly. You can also do a few other tricks on the V1.1 cartridge. I was unable to duplicate it on a 1.0 cartridge.
      Play with these concepts as a speed runner or just as a glitch hunter and post an example or two of things as I am sure you can discover a few new ones by reading some of the other ones or using what you already know. Just knowing that there is a way to beat Banjo Kazooie faster and that you can trick the game into saving data it is not supposed to, you should have enough motivation to play with this concept considering you discovered a piece of the puzzle already for Banjo kazooie.
      I may say more in DM but not here. I dont want everyone to know this. I love exploits in games and I covet them so. I hate it when they get patched out. I have more fun finding them than I do playing the game sometimes.

    It's nice to have confirmation that a lot of glitches are found by accident and not people who are like really smart with coding looking through the data. Makes me feel a lot better about accidentally doing something in a game that works in my favor.

      I found a glitch in Prototype. I scoured the internet and found no mention of it anywhere. I discovered that a NG+ file could be started on a difficulty you hadn't beaten the game on by going through the NG+ menu until the final button press, then backing out and starting a standard new game.
      I'd beaten the game on Easy, and after finding out about the NG+, wanted to play through Normal mode on NG+. Found out you have to choose a file to draw clear data from, and it puts you on the same difficulty. Oh well.
      Started a new game on Normal mode, got the effect of clear data anyway. Also, you aren't supposed to be able to do NG+ on Hard mode. Pretty much broke the game wide open completely by accident, since NG+ has you start with all of the abilities and upgrades you have on the clear data file.

    This reminds me of a glitch that had gotten patched after the initial Okami discs were released for PS2. My uncle had gotten Okami just a few weeks after the initial release back when it first released for PS2 and he played it as normal and when he got to an area full of lava, he equipped the lava charm and kept the water charm (it let you run on water) on as well because he didn't want to remove items that he didn't have to remove. Well apparently in the initial release lava was treated as a water type or the water charm worked on all non-harmful liquids or something and this allowed him to run on the lava because the lava now acted as either water or a non-harmful liquid while he had the lava charm equipped. I didn't believe him until I tested it out and my brother tested it out and I even showed a few friends...
    We think it was a glitch that made it in the first few discs because later discs didn't seem to have the glitch and all the digital versions lack the glitch. Since the internet wasn't super common (as in just about everyone having it) there's no mention of it that I could find so either not many people found it or if they did find it they just never posted about it.

      @@InfoManiac742 I could have SWORN it's happened to me too, on PS2, with a secondhand disc that wasn't a reprint/GOTY or anything distinguished, NTSC version. Of course my PS2 and games had to get caught in a dumb house fire, so I can't even go back and test it again...
      I had water tablet on for ease of travel to round up my missing beads and I put on the fire tablet to cross the area to Himiko's room because I thought I missed a bead in there, and I ran across the area at level-3 dash speeds, I only remember it because I was surprised the doorways opened that fast since I was sure the player was never supposed to go back there while wearing the water tablet.
      But there's no accounts of people doing it AND I think there was a TroperTales article about I think the Mandela Effect? where some people claim they remembered the fire + water combo = walk on lava thing and on re-checking they confirmed it didn't actually work.
      So, yeah, it's wild because SEVERAL of us remembered something that wasn't in the code at all.

    I'd like to back up the claim about accidentally finding glitches. I was the one that found the Clip Through Clear Pipe into a Normal Pipe glitch in Mario Maker 2, and it was just through pure happenstance that I was playing through Endless Easy mode and the level-maker happened to have haphazardly made the necessary setup needed, and through tedium I left my thumb holding up while still going through the pipe, which was the required factor to trigger it.
    With much confusion, I tried to recreate the scenario and tested it to see what did and didn't trigger the glitch. And, after a great deal of online searching, I realised '...wait, am I the first one to discover this?' and posted it.
    Sadly it's been patched now, but I'm happy to have at least brought something to the community, if only for a little while.

    • @Nat_the_Chicken
      @Nat_the_Chicken 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Sometimes really complicated glitches are found by glitch hunters combining knowledge about many different glitches and aspects of the game's code that may have been revealed by accident. Like for most of the ones I've seen, you have to execute this weird glitch and then do this other weird thing while it's active, like stacking simple but useless glitches on top of each other to get something very useful.

      @@Nat_the_Chicken Mew glitch and Old Man Glitch bring that to mind in Pokemon RBY... We knew for a while you could change what was on the Cinnabar coast by going somewhere and flying to Cinnabar, but then we found you could take the Safari pokemon to the coast, and then someone watched the old man tutorial and decided to go surf on the coastline and BAM missingno.
      Then there was the trainer-fly glitch that probably looked like a lock-up to most until the fix got found (fight any trainer that walks up to you), then we found if you go back to the route you flew away from it starts a fight against a level 7 pokemon, and THEN we found the one avoidable slowpoke trainer on the way to Bill's and fighting that got a MEW, and later we found out we could find a ditto after fighting another trainer that re-enables the start menu, and use that ditto copying our pokemon to control what came up, and later we found out that it was the special stat of whatever you fight last that controls what comes up in the battle, and THEN we found out that if you growl at the ditto/slowpoke, the end battle's pokemon level goes down.
      Note: we found that out circa 1999ish, the pokemon glitches barely had any common website until Glitch City Laboratories started up with a goal to study glitches through trial and error. It was a weird era.

      It makes a lot of sense really. People who know the speedrunning strats inside and out tend to stick to very precise pathing and techs. A brand new player doesn’t have the prerequisite knowledge of what they SHOULD do, so they end up stumbling upon things experienced people just wouldn’t ever think to try.

    Yep, accidents are pretty much how it goes. I remember playing Spyro 3 when I was younger, and in a subworld with a bunch of panda-people I'd been swimming in a pool at the edge of a waterfall. I accidentally charged over the lip that would have sent me tumbling to my death, but instead I was swimming. In the air. Flying, essentially. Spyro was locked into his underwater moveset, and I spent some time having fun with the glitch and swimflying around the level before trying to die and go back to normal. Never was able to repeat that.
    But then last year I watched a speedrun race of the game, and that very glitch was something both players used in the run, and not just limited to the one level where it had happened to me. I'd had no idea it was a repeatable glitch and that other people had also discovered it. Thought that was super cool.

    I rember playing the co-op Destroy All Humans (i think it was 2? But I'm not sure it's been so long). There was a mechanic that tethered you to each other I'm assuming so you didn't lose each other, and so that the game console doesn't overwork itself by the culling areas being expanded. Turns out, if you drive some vehicle away (i can't remember if it was a tank or the space ship, ny memory says it was a tank but thats been so long i dont recall if you can even drive them) while you are at the end of your tether, and you have the other person interact with one of the payphones, you can break the tether and get further away from each other than previously possible. It eventually rubberbands you both back together, but damn, being like 11-14years old or something and finding something that was obviously game breaking before the Internet was widely used for this sort of thing was such a RUSH. I can only imagine how this felt!!!! WP man, glad you noticed this 😊

    I know what you mean by accidentally figuring out glitches.
    I noticed Missing No. while playing Red version one day, and showed my older brother, he immediately got all excited and made me tell him exactly what I did before finding it. He did some searching on the internet back when it was still young and actually found other people reporting the same thing. Figured out the whole item replication glitch, and then later I also figured out you can go run in a patch of grass, THEN talk to the catching tutorial guy and surf on the right side of Cinnabar island and aside from the Missing No.s you will also find pokemon from that specific patch of grass you were walking in earlier. Meaning you could catch safari zone pokemon outside of the safari zone.
    Also figured out how to replicate pokemon and items in the og gold and silver versions. If you put a pokemon from your party into your pc, then switch the boxes, but shut off the game while its saving you will have the pokemon in your party and then in the box as well if I remember correctly. You could move all 6 pokemon from your party into a box (swapping another 1 in that was in the box already) and duplicate 6 at a time. I duplicated master balls this way.

    I feel that the creation of the save used for this glitch should be included in the run. Making this more a game + run than anything.

    A little late to this video, but say I found a game breaking glitch playing a game causally but have no idea how I did it, where could a let people know? I played through dark souls and somehow managed to unload every enemy and wall allowing me to just run straight through (in the painted world) and I can’t find anyone else say this happened to them. I also tried to ask on Reddit but no heard of this

    great video and reminder of celebrating glitches!
    unfortunately some communities are genuinely very barebones in knowledge mostly because of the unpopularity
    its very rewarding to discover and learn glitches and strats by oneself, known or not.

    Golden Eye was ON TOP of OoT??? I know that game and a few years ago I tried it for like 5 minutes because I saw it on a ROM site but I've never heard anyone talk about it or seen any content of it, wich (of course) is the exact opposite with OoT. Was it so popular back then and then no one talked about it after a short time or what happened with that game? o_0

    Edit: just double checked, his name is now anderbeamo and he’s 3rd in the world for 100% no ffm on n64, and 2nd for the same category on NSO

But from the small amount of it I did watch it seems like an amazing video highlighting a really cool aspect of how speedrun routes develop over many years.

    Do the runs include the time to set up the glitch, or do you start the clock at the beginning of an already-glitched save? The former sounds fine, but I understand the controversy in the community if it's for the latter.

  • @raafmaat
    @raafmaat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    you show the steps you did until you found out that you had all the moves, but what actually caused the glitch? you just did normal stuff, like use the jokers for dead squares instead of the minigame square, then doing the boss minigame and dying , so my guess is: those minigame bosses do not clear all your flags when you die there, or is it just that one specific boss u have to die on?

    • @winterlogical
      @winterlogical 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I actually know how this works: when Banjo steps on a timed challenge square in the Furnace, the game actually TAKES AWAY all of his moves so the player can do nothing but do the challenge in the square. It doesn't matter what boss it is or what timed challenge. His moves are set to restore whenever he enters a loading zone in Grunty's Lair (or re-loading in to the furnace), but game-overing in the furnace means Banjo never re-enters the lair. So, when starting on a new file, and entering Grunty's lair for the first time, the game executes the code as if it was from the original file, thus giving Banjo his moves.

    • @raafmaat
      @raafmaat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@winterlogical ah right thanks! so you need to play until you have all the moves saved, then start a new game and just game-over on ANY timed challenge and you will get all your moves from the save!

    • @harpy2602
      @harpy2602 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not accurate.
      You lose your moves in Furnace Fun so you can't use them on the board. But the game stores them on a bitfield to give them BACK during the minigames.
      If you are standing on the pixel between any 2 tiles, you can use your moves because, basically, the game views that pixel as not being ON the board so your moves are active.
      In terms of gaming over on the minigame, the game is still in the state of that particular bitfield being "active" so you are recognized as having the moves when you reenter the lair

    I get that most glitches are purely on accident, but sometimes the set up for a glitch is so absurd I have to question how you possibly did that of all things on "accident" For example, super swim on WW requires that you pause the game over and over while constantly changing links direction. But how do you just rapid pause on accident and what were you originally trying to do in the first place ?

    • @AtomicArtumas
      @AtomicArtumas 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was originally found in OoT, tbf.
      However, speed-based glitches like that are pretty easy to find to a much smaller extent (someone likely just frame perfectly swapped movement and noticed the ever so slight movement speed increase, for example.) - Then once something like that is found, it's just a matter of testing it to see how far it'll go.
      Also, backwards movement glitches are EXTREMELY common, especially in old games, so again, pretty easy to discover by simply testing for one.

    here i was thinking you meant the one where you can skip the trivia board game by not getting thrown into lava in furnace fun, if you get an answer wrong on a death tile. But it doesnt seem that big of a glitch, if it saves only 4 minutes (i thought of something closer to 15 minutes or 30 minutes)

    • @harpy2602
      @harpy2602 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      4 minutes is actually an overestimate. It saves about 3
