    Too many instructional videos fail to give detail in their projects.You take the time and trouble to detail every project you undertake and i find that very beneficial. You have given me the confidence to tackle the restoration of my 30ft carvel built bermudan sloop which i am thoroughly enjoying thanks to your excellent tuition.

    Nice simple safe one step at a time. Been doing that with my Albin 32+2 for a number of years. A bit unnerving the first time you do it but piece of cake after second or third time. The only part missed is to make sure that bow is raised high enough for rain drainage. Nothing like having a boat sink on land.

    I always thought looking at the screw jacks that it would be much safer if there were a ratchet strap or something running between them so they couldnt slip out. Was born and raised just outside Worcester MA. Its so awesome watching your videos. Feels like home again.

    That video very clearly explains a procedure that can be dangerous if not done right. I have done the very same process with a 4 ton, fixed keel sailboat. Because of the keel, there was less stability. Any time I was under the boat, my most trusted assistant stood with his fingertips on the side of the boat, ready to warn me if anything went wrong. It never did. I have seen the wheels removed from the trailer and replaced with bare rims, and the trailer rolled out on bare rims, when clearance was a problem.

    you should also put chains between your stands, especially those forward two because they are likely to push away from the hull if anybody is moving around on-board. The Brownell powerboat stands you used should have key holes for 3/16 chain on the flat top heads.

    • @fyoung46
      @fyoung46 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thanks Aaron, great idea about using chains. It would seem to be much safer with them! One can not be too safe when planning to work under a thousand pound boat, which is what mine weighs. Actually this one in the video is probably a bit larger and heavier. So much more the reason.

    a few tips,
    instead if using backstands on the midship-bow, get two 3" stands, along with some 5inch by 5inch wood chips to go underneath the stands.
    also, the midship-bow stand toppers should be horizontal instead of vertical, so the topper doesnt snap on the top.
    other then that, very good video!!!
    -from someone who does this all day

  • @brettsandford4146

    Another idea to help might be to shift your chocks forward in front of the wheels instead of removing them completely, and then if the driving forward didn't quite go to plan the chocks would stop the trailer before the centre jacks got knocked over. Great job tho!

    • @obfuscated3090
      @obfuscated3090 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a proven method with all sorts of trailers. Another is a chock in front of the pulling vehicle drivers side front tire.

    Did this with my 19' Potter that was in the driveway, not connected to the truck. Think it made it easier to lower the trailer's jack, thereby raising the stern, before placing the jackstands under the stern.

    I wouldn't attempt this w/o Louis at my side, or someone with his experience, at least for the first time. Kind of amazing that it is possible at all. What kind of boat is that? It has pretty lines ( for a motor boat ) any chance we can get Louis to show this trick using, say, a 30' sailboat?

  • @jamespollock2500
    @jamespollock2500 ปีที่แล้ว

    The other thing to mention is to ensure your trailer tires are properly inflated before doing this. Most likely since it will be several days or weeks till the boat goes back on, you may service the trailer and tires the height of the trailer might change.

    The opposite jack stands should be chained together to keep the stands from kicking out...standard practice

    • @edwardjones8170
      @edwardjones8170 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Peter Milley I believe Mr Sauzedde said and showed he angled the pop-it stands inboard to keep them from kicking out. I've never seen this in the yards I roam but I believe it's probably more secure being angled. But it's more fiddly then just attaching chains and hired yards tend to go the path of least resistance.

    • @cekiert
      @cekiert 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      While chain can rust, wood can rot or be eaten buy bugs, or sink in mud ect. I think chain isn't just the easiest. But I suspect it's more of a OSHA thing, a chain is definitely more secure chained together it can hold the stands under the boat. In Marina's some times boats sit on stands for years alot can happen to pine in a few years. All that said I held up a 19footer with wood, concrete cinder blocks. And one bottle Jack to do the lifts

  • @_noname617
    @_noname617 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    surprisingly chains weren't used under the hull to connect one stand with the other.. stability

  • @thomasarussellsr

    Well done, Lou and crew. To be honest, even with an old salty pro bracing it up, I would still be nervous getting under it, but not as nervous as climbing my 240+ pound self up into the boat. I sure it would be fine, but I've seen how much a boat rocks from me stepping off a dock onto it, I know it's supported on both sides, but I'd still be nervous.

They are extremely rugged, strong little boats that can go out in just about anything, and while you might get a little wet while you're at it......you will be able to get back home....!
