Thanks so much! And yes, it all depends on the weight of the boat and the level of creativity. Either from hoisting or jacking it up underneath , skys the limit! And sometimes it takes several lifting / blocking / resets , I’m order to inch the trailer out from under the boat. Patience is key. Cheers!
At work we aquired a old 25 boston whaler, utility style, maybe 1970's, from the USN. Bare bones vessel, no console. It was going to be our vessel for work, diving operations. Built in a 4" wide x 4" tall wooden cap all around and added 4" D rubber to the rub-rail. Built a steering console with storage, aluminum bimini top and rear towing bitt, powered it with twin Johnson 140's. It also had a 127 gallon fuel cell built in. For engine and vessel maintenance it was easier just to lift it with one of our tugboats deck cranes. One time we lifted it, I put a load cell on and it weighed 16,000#'s
This is a great tutorial! I may need to do this sometime soon - but of course I don’t have boat jack stands or a forklift! Regardless, the physics, mechanics and process order is A++
For swapping trailers, it's a lot simpler to just launch the boat from the old trailer and recover on the new one. You just need to figure out bunk and roller positions. This way however, is great for storage, making trailer repairs, or painting the hull.
Thank you 🙏🏼 Very true, but you can still do the same method using other ways to lift the bow. For example hanging under a support beam in shop or garage, or a tree limb , a car engine hoist works also, all that’s needed is an overhead support that can safely hold the weight of the bow. :) hope this helps! Cheers
Cool video. Part of me looks at your "lifting point" and thinks, clever it does the job. Seriously though, don't trust that tow ball it's dodgy af. Be easy to make up a jib with a hook that you can pick up with the forks
I replaced my axles on my boat trailer few months back. Had to grind few rusty bolts. But jack up the trailer and crib the frame. Lift wheels approx 2” off ground to free everything up, but not so high you struggle with lifting axle or wheels for no reason. Unbolt old axle and install new one. You can get new axles with suspension package fairly cheap. Like 250 each or so. I put 2 3500 lbs axles with 4 new wheels and tires and all grade 8 hardware for about $1100. Took about 6 hrs with 2 people. Could do it with 1 person in a long day. Only took about 2 hrs to install the new stuff. Old rusty gear allow time for.
Thanks for asking! I borrowed a pair from a friend. What most people do is buy a used set , use them, then sell for what they paid. There always seems to be a set on CL down here in Florida. And the prices are about half of new. What area are you located. There are some yards that will rent them to you as well. :)
on a glass boat this size, you may as well have just lifted the whole thing with the fork lift.In reality , most people do not have a forklift to hand.
I can't wait to do this when my forklift arrives 🤣
Exactly 😂
Guys a tool
not everyone has a forklift, gantry, shop crane, consider doing another clip with outboard attached and home handyman tools. cheers
agree sir
THEN DON'T LIFT YOUR BOAT IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE TOOLS!!!!!
@@rockerpat1085the point is there’s a a way to do it without those tools
This was very helpful since I am about to begin my boat project, BUT.... can you demonstrate with out a forklift as I do not have one at home?
Use a shop crane, aka Cherry Picker, that can be had for a couple hundred from HF.
Oh hell I thought everyone had a forklift laying around you don’t 🤣
I’m gonna need to borrow your forklift 😂😂😂
Holy crap. Simple and brilliant. I knew there had to be an easy way and this is it. Several different bow lift methods could work.

Yeah.....so just get your forklift, cuz, everybody has one....and lift your boat off of the trailer....easy!!!
Thanks for the advice.

Thanks. Exactly what I needed.
LOVE IT! Any advice on what to adjust on a larger (23ft) boat with a sharper keel (a.k.a. not flat?)
A caveman does not have a fork lift handy at home...
That's pretty awesome I was thinking how can I get my sailboat off the trailer thank you so much
Very cool Christina and thank you for watching / sharing this! Cheers!
@@diywaterworld you're welcome I love your videos.

Great! Now all I need is a Forklift because I don't have one for some reason unlike everyone else apparently.
Great work buy not everybody has a forklift

I've done it many times by just using the trailer jack. A car scissor-style jack also works.
I use an engine crane.
@@chiphill4856 likewise! That works well, thank you for sharing!
hey great video!!! what would it be the biggest boat you would suggest using this procedure? can it be done with a 25foot boat? thanks
Oooooh so I need a forklift.

Just saw this video, and could not help but wonder is that a Chris M. skiff design? Conch?
This one got you a subscribe...
Awesome! Thx
Any chance you could tell me the size, type and brand of the boat stands you used? How about a link on where to get them? Thanks!
Bravo-do you know how pros replace the axle ? with boat or without boat on trailer .

Can we do this with a real boat? I’m currently trying this with a big ass Parker and I’m starting to think it’s a bad idea
All fine and dandy if... if I had a forklift.
Awesome
Thank you ! Thank you…
Thx!!
Did you have to buy those stands? Or did you rent them?

@@diywaterworld I'm in Washington
I'll be checking CL. Thx for the reply
Why can I not find stands like that anywhere lol

Tractor works just as well!
I don't have a fork lift so I guess I'll just put the boat in the water as per usual.
Now I just need to buy a forklift.
Ahh yes the caveman loved their forklifts
His trailer is a budget trailer he has'nt seen mine and i only have concrete blocks and blocks of wood no fork lift 😢
Caveman got forklift?
Lemme just go get my forklift
Or you could go launch the boat and have a friend bring new trailer to pickup boat on the new bigger trailer. Less chance damaging your boat.
Most cave men don’t have forklifts lol. Good info anyway 👍
Jjjjj with a fork lift...We don't have a fork lift... Only helpful if you own fork lift.
but but but I haven't got a fork lift
Who has a forklift readily available to do this???
Cavemen didn't have forklifts
DYI ...everybody has a forklift at home
Not everyone has a fork lift
How may DIY people have a fork lift? Lol!
For a video showing how to do it without any overhead crane or hoist, here is Louis Sauzedde: th-cam.com/video/vE8l7o-c8lY/w-d-xo.html
5 mins of total drivel
You cheated with the forklift.
Horrible unrealistic video
Yeah, cause we all have a forklift handy 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
