My dad use to play this on his Oboe and as a three year old I remember lying on his bed with the sun streaming through the bedroom window, with him and his oboe and music on his music stand! Sadly he’s not here anymore but listening to this brings back deep and powerful memories even after 10 years since he’s been gone. How wonderful is that for me? 😊
I had a parallel experience with you, bot in my case my older brother were practicing some of these and many others! What annoyed him, was, that what he played three times, I could doodle it, I memorized them much quicker than he has, I was about ten then, sadly, he too passed on, but I have my connection with him whenever I listening the oboe, yet, amongst five other brother's he was not my favourite, which hardly matter's niw!
Its simple... most people have a very short attention span (about 3 minutes) Hence the length of most pop songs. They're bored before the piece has time to develop. It's like reading the first chapter of a great book and putting it down. 3 minutes! Oh the irony.
Those who say classical music is boring are people sith short attention spans, i.e. couch potatoes OD‘d on TV, esp US TV with its interruptions for ads every 10 minutes!
I discovered this masterpiece when I was 16 years old 45 years ago, and I am listening it time by time again and again. It never stopped to give an outstanding comfort to my soul and mind.
I discovered it thanks to the movie Anonimo veneziano (1970 or something like that), which showcases the adagio of this concerto (the male character is a musician recording this concerto before cancer takes him away).

I remember walking past the local orchestra and hearing this masterpiece back in 1717-feels like it was just yesterday. The sound of the oboe soaring through the air was unforgettable, a timeless treasure etched in my memory.
It is interesting to see what appears to be bare earth in the open area. Anyone who has been to the Piazza knows its raised pavers. As for the painting there are a few telltale signs that the perspective was generated using a technique based on plans and elevations. The slight distortion in the foreground fountain is one indication.

I see where Handel got the inspiration for his Oboe concerto. Handel's is just a tad faster but you definitely hear the inspiration in his from this piece. Handel himself may have been sitting in a concert hall listening to this and thought "EUREKA!", THIS IS IT! He did study in Italy for a time and his music is known to be strongly influenced by Italian masters. This piece of music is without a doubt one of the most beautiful pieces for the Oboe ever created by a human mind.
Such a beautiful and musical player... he plays in a simple and straightforward manner that I think this concerto needs, and his speeds are judged to perfection. I don't think you could hear a better performance.
@@martinmeng100 - Tanks I will look out for it. I have heard him play in many other works but not the Marcello. Of course he played on a modern instrument in a different sound world and era, but I would love to hear it nevertheless as I am and admirer. Used to listen this 10 years ago almost everyday after coming home from school. Don’t know what i was thinking but i knew that it touched my soul. Today I randomly saw and listened it. After all these years i felt the same thing. Remarkable..
The above painting appears to be the Piazza Navona, Rome, painted in 1699 Caspar by A. van Wittel (Vanvitelli) 1652-1736, who was apparently a Dutch/Italian painter. It is possible that he painted the scene more than once.
I allways feel this pieces of art are just the unfolding of un invisible true, invisible ultimate law of beauty, love and perfection, beneath all the universe ... Wher we are able to Understand the Whole and touch heaven
The Oboe Concerto in D minor, S D935, is an early 18th-century composition for oboe, strings and continuo attributed to the Venetian composer Alessandro Marcello. The Concerto composed in three movements was published by Jeanne Roger in Amsterdam in 1717. Marcello’s style is High Baroque, already foreshadowing the Classical Style, music of great depth and emotion, richly scored for a wide variety of solo instruments and continuo. She showcase a remarkably wide range of expression, atmosphere and timbre, but also for its stylish and sweetly modulated performances. This oboe concerto is probably the most beautiful of the Baroque period. Marcello composed several collections of soloist concertos, six of which were collected under the title La Cetra, as well as a few cantatas. He published his works under the pseudonym of Eterio Stinfalico. Johann Sebastian Bach was very influenced by Italian music, notably Vivaldi, Corelli, Torelli, Marcello and maybe others. A sincere work is that which is gifted with enough force to give reality to a dream. *Lucien*

Such a beautiful interpretation by a gifted player. I never tire of listening to this oboe concerto: it makes me feel good to be alive.
How such a small instrument can produce such divine sounds!
Use a talented Oboe players and have them play this beautiful piece.
You cannot not love this music. It's sublime and the sound of the oboe can be so sweet.
A masterpiece from beginning to end.
E un'atmosfera magica . Solo Venezia è di così tanta Grazia ❤❤❤
Joe Van Seeters, you said it so nicely that I could not agree more :-)
Such a beautiful and musical player... he plays in a simple and straightforward manner that I think this concerto needs, and his speeds are judged to perfection. I don't think you could hear a better performance.
It is absolutely wonderful!! But did you hear Haakon Stotijn? There is a record of this Dutch oboeplayer, absolutely stunning, heartbreaking!!
@@martinmeng100 - Tanks I will look out for it. I have heard him play in many other works but not the Marcello. Of course he played on a modern instrument in a different sound world and era, but I would love to hear it nevertheless as I am and admirer. I do have a recording of his dad playing the Mozart oboe quartet.
Grazie ALESSANDRO MARCELLO...!

That second movement....with all the dissonances in the beginning....extremely beautiful and emotional.😿
It’s a masterpiece!
Used to listen this 10 years ago almost everyday after coming home from school. Don’t know what i was thinking but i knew that it touched my soul. Today I randomly saw and listened it. After all these years i felt the same thing. Remarkable..
Uma maravilhosa música sentimental italianíssima...Viva a Itália !
The above painting appears to be the Piazza Navona, Rome, painted in 1699 Caspar by A. van Wittel (Vanvitelli) 1652-1736, who was apparently a Dutch/Italian painter. It is possible that he painted the scene more than once.
Thank you so much for the information! 🙂
The melody and harmony in A. Marcello's Oboe Adagio Concerto are profound with a lively rhythmical tempo. A delightful Baroque work.
I allways feel this pieces of art are just the unfolding of un invisible true, invisible ultimate law of beauty, love and perfection, beneath all the universe ... Wher we are able to Understand the Whole and touch heaven
I so admire the master's of this versatile wonderful instrument.Fm Australia.
One of the best baroque concertos ever.
Maravillosa, la música barroca tan
preciosa, siempre gusta mucho.
Muchas gracias.
Buenas tardes.🌿
Desconocía este concierto maravilloso. Muchas gracias.
El adagio es de una belleza extrema.Mi alma tocada. LUIS escucha esto
L'Adagio è di una commovente bellezza!
Verissimo.
*Lucien*
@@HieronymusBosch-f1w Thank you my friend 😘
it's like heaven listening to it. I love it and I can never get tired of it.
This an absolutely sublime piece of music. So majestic and proud, then so moving.
Great composer! Great rendition! Thank you Balint!
Ho ascoltato questa musica venti anni fa. Adesso finalmente la ritrovo!
Ale
Grazie.
The adagio is breathtaking- redolent of a bird soaring high in the sky
My son is playing this for his Grade 6 oboe exam at Sydney Grammar as I type. Really evocative piece.
+Joss Hawthorn Good luck to him
How did the exam go?
He failed miserably, now he has chosen the viola da gamba.
supraludwick83 LOL
I don't know your son, but my heart goes to him (thought of a musician to another one)
The sound of the oboe is wonderful and in this piece of music so clear and strong. Marcello is one of the Baroque composer I did not know much about until now. He is one of my favorite.
This masterpiece great performers play leads me into the wonderful world of comfort
