THESE oboe concertos -- in the hands of incomparable genius GF Handel -- illustrate, better than my words ever could -- the range and possibility of the oboe. The oboe is like a human voice ... emerging from an inanimate object. Handel, Mozart, Bach ... greatest composers for that GREATEST instrument -- the OBOE!

Enjoyed the variety of moods, alternately stately and bustling. Many passages reminded me persistently of Rameau. My state of mind this evening was heading in a sullen direction, but Handel turned that around. Thank you!

00:04:33 "Concerto-pasticcio in C Major, III. Largo" is also the tune for Handel's signature aria, "Lascia ch'io pianga" (English: "Let me weep") from his Opera Rinaldo HWV 7 (1711).
That is the reason why it is called a "pasticcio", as it is a concert made with music from other compositions that is reused here in such wonderful and magisterial way.
Händel and Telemann have turned the oboe into something magical, soothing and healing, thoughtful and deep, shining a gentle light, causing unassuming encounters at lost corners of the soul... or maybe its the wine talking

These masterpieces give the meaning of life purpose, and attempts to make sense of the many abstract and deep longing quest as to our place in the cosmos…and yes, I am sober, just a little wiser as I get older. This music makes these things that more sensical…my take…
Wonderful. But a bit too fast, as often is with baroque music. Try setting speed at x0,95 in the TH-cam control panel and you will get closer to what it sounded like back in the days..
I have nothing against baroque concertos but it's unfortunate oboe concertos basically stopped being written after the 18th century despite being so numerous in the late Baroque era. The oboe has such a "romantic" sound yet doesn't get concertos during the Romantic period (if you know of a romantic oboe concerto i'd love to hear it btw).

I have nothing against baroque concertos but it's unfortunate oboe concertos basically stopped being written after the 18th century despite being so numerous in the late Baroque era. The oboe has such a "romantic" sound yet doesn't get concertos during the Romantic period (if you know of a romantic oboe concerto i'd love to hear it btw).
