How to Sew a Buttonhole Without Special Attachments

  • This video covers how to sew a buttonhole using the presets in some computerized sewing machines for the top, sides, and bottom. If your machine doesn't have these presets you can use a wide zig zag for the top and bottom of the buttonhole and a narrow zig zag for the sides. Turn off the feed dogs for the top and bottom if using a wide zig zag rather than a built-in preset.

    The zig zag method was my go-to when I didn't have the buttonhole foot or fancy stitches!
