Nice tutorial. I learned how to do buttonholes this way more years ago than I care to remember but I got spoiled by my one button setting. My machine needs to go to the shop and my backups are all pre1970. Needed a refresher on how to do buttonholes
I added buttonholes to the bucket hat I made for my son, so that I could add a chin strap to keep it on his head (and have the straps go through the buttonholes when the hat is reversed). Ended up doing something similar, glad I was on the right path - thanks for the tutorial!
I found this video really helpful as I was having trouble with my buttonhole presser foot so was happy to come across your video explaining the oldskool/manual way. At first it seemed complicated to do, because I was trying to follow your instructions to the T, but I realised I couldn’t do that because my machine is set up differently so I decided to follow the concept (using the guidelines you describe) but use my instinct a bit more with my machine and after practicing 20-25 buttonholes 😂, I did it for real on my main project and it worked I’m happy with it! 🎉
Maaan, you saved me. I don't know what happened to my sewing machine but it just doesn't make buttonholes as supposed, I am now pretty comfortable making them this way
Great tutorial and was amazed to see how you had your serger thread in a jar. I purchased the special holders but will definitely keep this idea in mind. Ty
This is a great video ! I have an older machine, a Singer model 237. It has zig zag and left, center, right sewing, as well as forward and reverse at different lengths. The technique you show will work OK with my machine. I just need to do some testing to determine the feed (stitch length adjustment on my machine) for both forward and reverse stitching.
Well thank you for this I have both the buttonhole foot and the setting on my sewing machine but I don't know how to use either one of them this I think I can do
Great video, I have a 1975 Bernina that does reasonable buttonholes, nkt as good as the singer (sorry Bernie), but I really wanted more control to get a perfect result on some Osnaberg fabric, which is quite mobile fabric I am finding. I’m looking forward to trying your technique soon. Right now I’m cross eyed from an evening struggling with buttonholes! Thanks again
The best way to cut open a buttonhole is to put a pin sideways at the end of it (so you don’t cut through the end threads), start the cut with a seam ripper, and finish up with small scissors for more control.
You’re awesome, for sure following. Thank you for making practical videos without annoying music or a weirdly fake voice

Thanks for this easy-to-follow tutorial! I watched the last part four times and now have 4 perfect button holes. 😊
I'm glad I found your channel!
This was so helpful! Thank you so much! P.S. the vibes were VIBING when you were marking where the buttonhole should go

The Boxy Tee took a bit outta me but I'm back now, going to be busting out videos more regularly. Thanks for staying with me 🙏🏻
Thank you! You are THE MAN!
Great instructional video!

Awesome tutorial thank you!
Looking forward to those cargo pants! 🙂
Can't find my button foot, this video saved my entire project, thank you!
Wow! You have the same machine I do, this is fantastic I can follow along perfectly.
Thank you
Thanks! Just what I was looking for. 👍

Just watched this and I glad I got it
How do you cut the hole though?
I’m going to try to use this good idea to make a buttonhole bit bigger of what it really is. Thank you.
So useful
I hope so ☺️
Your Chanel is helping me so munch. Your tutorials cover everything I could possibly need and leave room for creativity.
Thank you! I had done all my buttonholes with the special foot, but it couldn't cope with one that was close to a seam.
I snapped my button hole foot in half, and this came in at the perfect time 😂
you are the best
How do you get your free patterns is there a link ?
There's a link in the description :)
Another great video from a fellow Sewpreneur (Sewing Entrepreneur) 🎉❤
What if you also don’t have a zigzag? I have a Juki and it only has a strait stitch
Very entertaining.
Thank youuuuuu
Can’t believe u didn’t show the final result
He showed the finished swatch in the very beginning, but it's obvious we'd want to see it again!
MY MACHINE IS TOO OLD. I have a Singer 99, and it only does straight stitches ):
Can you show you final product kinda confused
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
I have the setting but not the foot 😫
Lol what? Where is the actual buttonhole? And then show us how to slice the fabric so it's actually open and usable. 😄
just use a seam ripper to cut it open. or even a blade

You DIDNT SHOW the Buttonhole!!!
Yeah that was the entire point, so weird!!!
“Old school” is by hand.
