| KNEEL TO SERVE | Mteyo’s charming manners drive men crazy in Kiambu

  • Kneeling, for a girl or woman while greeting and serving the elderly is a Ugandan culture that is often seen as a symbol of polite submission and respect. Stella Mteyo brought that culture with her from Mbale, Uganda. She runs a hotel in the heart of Kiambu town, and how she serves is a charm that sets her apart. It’s earned her customers and admiration. But interestingly back home in Uganda, it’s a culture that is being challenged. Should a woman kneel to greet? This is her story. #KneelToServe #UgandanCharm #DorcasWangira

No there are Kenyans who do this in a different way but only to their husbands. Many coastal girls when they are about to get married are put in" bridal boot camp" a kind of " finishing school " ( because you are taught from before puberty what it means to be a girl and what is expected of you in your future as a wife mother, daughter in law, etc), where they are taught to serve, honour respect their husbands. How to cook and clean and be your most attractive in evey way. In kiswahili its called " kutawa"

He is regarded as your king of course GOD first then your husband
My dia some tribes will kneel down for hubby when he comes back from the toilet you welcome him from the toilet
It's just that pipo are now following today's ways of western but our grannies and mums tell us a man would beat you and kneel down thanking him and apologise even if he was on wrong

I wonder why Kenyan see kneeling as aa... What.!?. In Uganda kneeling is not a burden in fact we love it so much. We kneel while greeting. Parents. Elders and even our husband's its a sign of respect. Even when you are listening to an elder u can't stand that is disrespect. Well don't be surprised when I tell you that even some men kneel or scout while with parents and little boys kneel to parents up to around 19years or when they get married . Yeah. It's very fine

There are also Kenyans who show humility and respect in different ways. They may not kneel but they serve with humility, dignity, grace and charm, BUT only for their husbands. When serving guests its the high quality of food, quantity and presentation that makes the guests fell deeply honoured, respected and welcome

I grew up in both cultures and i find it more of respect if i respect my husband and i kneel.4 him he will go a long way to be a good husband!Meaning the husband lives to your expectations but if you talk ill of him in his absence he will reciprocate! In ug those days there were hardly girls who smoke but in Kenya it was normal to smoke in public but Ugandan ones would hide if at all they smoked!
