    Glad to hear there aren’t any major reliability issues as far as you’ve noticed. I’m 3 years behind you. I just bought a 2017 SQ4 in Sept 2020 with 29k miles. I absolutely love it so far!

      @@vws8851 Yes, I tend to pay cash for used cars and keep them for 15 years or so. So far, I've had zero issues with it. I've done the recommended yearly recommended maintenance at a local Maserati dealer, which ranges from 500-1200 depending on when belts/plugs are recommended, but it's been a truly amazing experience. Yes, the yearly maintenance is more than most cars, but the driving experience is far beyond what I've experienced as well. I'd highly recommend an ~3 yo depreciated used model with a 1 yr CPO warranty. I've never been a car guys, but the sounds from this car are memorizing!

    I also have a 2014 Maserati Ghibli SQ4 and I definitely explored my options here in Houston and only trusted Sewell for my purchase as I know they have probably the most reputable dealerships in Texas. I haven't been turned off at all by any Crystler parts in my vehicle, and I have considered them to be honored to sport some of the same parts my Italian Maserati has inside. What they can't sport is that engine and they can't share that exhaust and thankfully so. I do also own German rides. A BMW 5 series and a Mercedes C63, which I will say is not shy about anything on the exhaust or the performance side, but either way I baby my Maserati and I have had reliability issues with both my German vehicles ofcourse, but I love their differences just as well. The Maserati is the one I consider my luxury vehicle, if it warrants repair it will receive it without delay as the others have, and I will do it without dealership cost when I'm afforded that opportunity. There is no denying Maserati...I hope to enjoy mine for many years to come.

    It's a VERY expensive car to maintain. It's also very fun to drive. The infotainment system in the early years absolutely sucked. I was in a serious accident in mine a couple months ago. A guy ran a red light going 80 and I hit him going 40. It tore the nose of the car off and broke both front axles. I was able to open the front door and walk away. It's a very safe car. Despite the cost of maintenance, I'm looking to buy another one.

    • @JamesDIYGarage
      @JamesDIYGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on which part of the intertainment system you are referring to. For me the best part of the intertainment system, especially on my 2014, in the exhaust note. 🔱

    • @rcampbell4967
      @rcampbell4967 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JamesDIYGarage Agreed on the exhaust note. It's music. I traded in my Jaguar XF which didn't have a great infotainment system, had a great stereo, but didn't have the exhaust note of the Ghibli. I've been casually looking for a replacement and investigated other cars, but I think I'm going to buy another Ghibli. Some maintenance issues, on the 2014 there is a fuse on the fuel pump that corrodes, and the 35,000 mile maintenance is $6,500. My car was was a duplicate of yours.

      @@JamesDIYGarage I do know you do your own maintenance. Nothing to be done about $10 a quart for oil which coats the piston intake valve's requiring shot blasting with walnut shells. I don't have time for that so I pay to have it done. When I first moved to the LA area, I joked with the service rep at the Maserati dealer that the only two places I didn't need to use GPS to get to was the grocery store and the dealership. It's a great car to drive and a fun car to own. Just saying it's not a reliable car in my experience. Last year i spent about $8k on repairs and maintenance. That being said, I know the cost of ownership and am looking for my next ghibli because I loved owning it and driving it and I can, knock on wood, afford to maintain it. But, it's an expensive, unreliable car.

      @@rcampbell4967 Don't be suprised if you are suprised at the reliability of your new Ghibli. All cars have their issues. But mine has been suprisingly reliable over the 3+ years I have owned it. Even with 84k miles on it.

    Beautiful Maserati! James this video was posted 1 year ago. Is it still holding its value?

    • @JamesDIYGarage
      @JamesDIYGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It has been holding value as good as any other Maserati Ghibli SQ4 since value is market driven and not car specific. Maserati's do depreciate more than a regular car. So if you are looking to buy based on value retention, Maserati is not the car you would be looking for. You buy a Maserati for the thrills, prestige, exclusivity and beauty of the car. My Ghibli has however been very reliable for the last 3+ years. I am very fortunate to be able to daily drive this car and it now has 84K miles on it. Still runs like new. But as you can see from my videos I doo take very good care of it without spending a fortune.

  • @daveman67890
    @daveman67890 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Interesting video.. I purchased a used CPO 2017 Ghibli SQ4 last fall, and didn't think about the CPO warranty void concern of changing my oil later this year. I'll have to hit up my Maserati mechanic about that. It's expensive, in Austin, he quoted $697, not sure how much in San Antonio but probably a bit less than this. I do agree it should be decent for reliability, but it is Italian and it will break more than say my Honda vehicles, which are tanks on wheels. But, I love my Mazi, and it's uniqueness and sound are second to none, and more practical than say an F430. :-)

    • @JamesDIYGarage
      @JamesDIYGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ghibli's are more practical than most other exotic supercars I agree. An F430 is not a daily driver. And while a used Bentley Continental GT can be had for around 40k, its gas mileage makes it less practical than a Ghibli.

    Under $100 bucks to change the oil
    What type of oil you been using
    Cause the Pennzoil platinum euro 5w-40 cost about $10 bucks each and it take 9 quarters + the oil filter
    The oil I bought at advanced auto parts but the oil filter I bought at maserati and they charged me $35

      Cheaper at the Chrysler Dealership, at least it is here is sac. The auto parts stores do not carry pennzoil platinum euro 5w 40. I can only get it at the Chrysler Dealership.

    I have recently bought a 2015 Ghibli and I also have watched most of you video clips and loved it. Keep up the great work.
    Recently I have noticed when do a very sharp turn in slow speed the front wheels are shuddering and making very unpleasant noise. Last week I have replaced the front tyres with Pirelli P Zero and also done four wheel tracking but the issue is still there. Would you be able to advise me any solutions for this matter? By the way I am in UK.
    Many thanks in advance.

      It's normal for the Pirelli tires. They are very sticky and also wear very fast. I had the same issue with my pirrelis. I bought Continental Extreme Contact Sports + tires for my car and the problem went away. :)
