The reason why the hot chocolate was not too milky is because hot chocolate in Spain is not the same as in other countries, such as in the US. What you call "hot chocolate" we call it "leche con cacao" or "colacao" (which is one of the brands that sells it), and we normally have it for breakfast. The famous Spanish hot chocolate that, for example, is eaten with churros is slightly thicker, richer and slightly less sweet than the one I have previously mentioned. In countries like the UK, for example, people have that type of chocolate as a dip, and not as a drink like we do in here. That could be why the "hot chocolate" sachet that comes inside the MRE is not as milky and sweet.
That's called 'drinking chocolate' or 'sipping chocolate' in the US. It's just melted chocolate, any respectable chocolate maker in the US with a store front sells it.
Amy Zarbis I think she didn't think to use it for the cookies or the hot chocolate because she doesn't like things overly sweet. She did mention that the Cocoa was sweet already so I didn't expect her to add more sweetness to it. Even if it lacked the dairy element.
emmymadeinjapan I think the "condensed milk" was actually caramel for the cookies or Chocolat milk. to make them both sweeter. Wich would also explain why they gave you so many lol. I loved the video non the less
Tais Andia the package actually says leche condensada, so it is actually condensed milk, not "dulce de leche". Depending on the brand, there are variants that are more golden in colour.
Nevertheless, you can prepare "dulce de leche or manjar" by boiling a can of "Leche condensada" in a pressure cooker. It's a homemade way to do it. So I believe , it was "dulce de leche" www.comolohago.cl/como-transformar-un-tarro-de-leche-condensada-en-manjar/
Violeta Carolina Seriously? These are practically ready to eat military rations. They need as little cooking as possible. Besides I don't know if you even watched the video but the package says "Leche Condensada " and it comes in little sachets, not cans, and I didn't see Amy cook it much less in a pressure cooker. So no, it wasn't dulce de leche.
I had a big explanation about leche condensada and dulce de leche topic, however since it's so "obvious" according to you, I will agree with "it's condensed milk"
This video just gave me major nostalgia! I went on several expeditions eating these rations back in 2008 and it brought back so many memories! As for the condensed milk, my companions and I used to just spread a little on the biscuits and pour some into the hot drinks (I don't know if it's my imagination but I do remember getting coffee at some point?). Also, the chocolate bar would often be melted because it's really hot in summer so we would just also spread it on the biscuits. I also remember there were some vitamin C tablets, which i loved as they were fizzy and citrusy but maybe they come as a powder? Really looking forward for the lunch ration video, I hope you get something tasty!!
6:00 Here in the Canary Islands (Spain) We eat the cereal and the granola always with milk not with water! And this "condensed milk" is not condensed milk, is dulce de leche, I don't know the exactly translation but its similar to caramel :) condensed milk is "leche condensada" and it's obviously white 😙😙 and the chocolate powder is also with milk, it suposed to be eated like: a bowl of milk with chocolate powder and the granola eated with a spoon 😘
No, that's not the translation. "Dulce de leche" has no translation, because it's a product that doesn't exist in every country, it came from Argentina. And it's not a 'sweetened condensed milk', because it's a different process.
Bueno, no puedo ver el envase pero si dice dulce de leche entonces es obviamente dulce de leche. Si dice dulce leche condesnsada entonces es eso. Dulce de Leche es ese color, así que probablemente fue dulce de leche y no dulce leche condensada!
SkyBlueGum SBG the package actually says "leche condensada" so it isn't dulce de leche. Which by the way originated in Europe, not in Argentina 🙄 Why do you think every Latin American country has dulce de leche or some version of it?
I'm a retired army staff sergeant and spent 25 years in service! I've tried many mre's! The best one I've ever had were the French mre! they had pate and goose liver! one even had escargot( snails) which were delicious!
Hi emmy! I'm from spain and actually during the war there's no milk, so, condensed milk is diluted in water and used as a substitute, try it! Its delicious!
Emmy, I was binge watching some older videos of yours yesterday. It made me realize it's been SIX years since I found you! I can't believe it's been that long. I'll continue to be a fan as long as your channel is alive! Love you Emmy 💕
Condensed milk is often used as a sweetener for food as well as beverages. You're awesome!! I love watching your videos. They are all so satisfying and you have a way of making your videos peaceful and relaxing. I also enjoy the specific, honest, and graphic way you describe food. Emmy! I can't believe you almost have 1 million subs! I remember when you got to 1k and it was so exciting! I've been a fan of yours since the very beginning!
Here In spain is quite typical to eat for breakfast hot milk with that powdered cocoa that you showed. I think all that condensed milk was supposed to be turned into milk by adding water and then you can choose if you want to mix it with the cocoa and have it with the cookies or mix it with the granola and eat it right away. Both breakfasts are typical here. Also, there are some cookies in spain that are sold with a chocolate bar on top but that are slightly more expensive, so i think another idea would be to eat the chocolate bar with the cookie that they provide so you don't get fed up with the taste of a plain cookie. Great job as always!
Your MRE videos are my favorite. I especially liked that they included a mini camp stove. I was hoping you would use it to boil the water with. The toothbrush was a nice addition.
The stove is pretty nifty! Wonder what they do with it after the meal. As for the condensed milk, my grandma used to put it in Milo (a chocolate and malt drink) to sweeten and thicken it up. Maybe it's for the cocoa? (Not a Spaniard here though.) It's great with tea or coffee. 😊
Emmy, I just saw a video for Vietnamese "egg coffee". Ever heard of it? I hadn't but It looks really good! I think you should try making it for a video!

My fiance, my father in law, mother in law, and BOTH brother in laws were all in the military, and we just ordered some rations for tasting. Can't wait!!
Gunnar Anderson ohhhh!!! So, that is just something funny that Emmy does to show that you watched the whole video. She always makes it something really funny that she wants you to comment. It’s actually a pretty smart move on her part because people watch her videos just to see what funny word or phrase she will tell people to comment. It just gives her an idea of how many people actually watched her whole video. (Of course you could always fast forward to the comment part ) 🤣😂
Some of the condensed milk sold in New Zealand look yellowish like that but others more white in color. The color tends to vary from brand to brand. Back in the 90s the NZ Army used to give my brother condensed milk in a toothpaste style tube.
I do military service before exist this green boxes but i think you can mix condensed milk with hot cocoa or coffee drink. And paper can be not only napkin.
Hi Emmy! Yet, a fantastic video💜! I was watching your video, and I noticed that u got confused off the milk, and so did I! Someone use milk to their coco, but, CONDENCED MILK😨?! I bet that would be magnificently sweet 😅! But I love your video^^! Keep it up 😄!
UK Andy. HI Emmy. I've watched a few MRE offerings. I THINK the condensed milk sachets are applied to the crackers/ biscuits just like peanut butter or jam. Keep making videos☺
I am ex military from Spain. La Legion. We didn't physically carry the breakfast they are given out. We would pour the condensed milk in the cantine of coco. We would also get a litre bottle of water. That was enough for all. I personally never have had to use the purification tablet and don't recommend you do either unless really necessary.
There are 5 breakfast menus - 3 of which have 2x coffee in them. When I ate them for a while - I'd dump a condensed milk sachet into each coffee and keep one back for lunch..
Dear Emmy! The condense milk can be used in the cookies just as you would use peanut butter or even jam! It was so interesting watching you mixing the cereal with condense milk!! Ahahahaha!
I've seen in other mre videos that sometimes you eat the condensed milk straight from the tube for a boost of energy. Also I feel like this one didn't have a proper meal in it, is this for use in between meals?
I gotta say Emmy...When the Zombie Apocalypse comes you are all set.....You have the ration thing down pat and you wield that knife like a biker chick...LOL Love you videos...Unlike other people that do this, you are straight to the point and clear and concise...Thanks from Las Vegas
Normally, I do enjoy Emmy’s videos, but lately, I’ve noticed the lack of subtitles. As a deaf person, I do appreciate the subtitles. Please bring back using subtitles with your videos!
I believe the salts are meant to be mixed in water and then drink. It's like Gatorade. Condensed milk can be used on cookies, biscuits, bread or alone 😊
in the iberian countries (portugal and spain) milk is used a lot. where most countries put water, we put milk. it is weird that the mre didnt have coffee since its also part of both our cultures and it should absolutely be there. with the tea tho, no surprises. we are not tea lovers to the point we need it daily.
the water in the sinks, showers, and fountains at my school is very very chlorinated. Even filtering tap water in a brita intensified that pool water flavor. not sure if it's healthy to drink even though it's been through the brita system?
4:20 you might be tasting some sort of preservative. Rehydration in an emergency situation (such as what MREs are used in) requires a certain amount of sugar to accelerate the absorption into the patient's bloodstream. Artificial sweeteners do not contain sugar. In cases of dehydration, which can actually kill you fairly quickly (diarrhea, dysentery, etc), a lot of people who have limited to no access to medical help need to use this recipe: 1 pinch of salt + 1 handful of sugar in liter of water.
one of the most fun things, we did was to swap fieldrations from all over the world with the french ringing at the absolute top followed close by the italian and the most vile one was the ukrainian one where so old and from the warsaw pact days. but it was fun to watch them issue their bread ration whith the whole company standing at attention and with one man cutting from giant loaf of wheat bread and a another man with the back to them yelling out the name of the soldier who was to receive it, what a way to promote unit cohersement.
I believe the condensed milk is meant for the biscuits. Potentially the cocoa if it wasn't too sweet already . At least that's how eat it in my house. My mom is Spanish and my dads Italian.
For condensed milk, I would have put it in with the chocolate to make hot chocolate milk, or condensed milk with hot water by itself makes hot sweet milk, which is good by itself. The hot milk would be great with the biscuits.
The reason why the hot chocolate was not too milky is because hot chocolate in Spain is not the same as in other countries, such as in the US. Karpov Liam As far as in the ration, thats what its used for. No one said there was a rule. calm down

Someone use milk to their coco, but, CONDENCED MILK😨?! I bet that would be magnificently sweet 😅! But I love your video^^! Keep it up 😄!
I never grow tired of these MRE videos!
Hey cool. I'm going to be trying one of these out soon. As Always Great job Emmy.
"Let's use that to brush *our* teeth." Emmy, I love your channel, but I'm gonna have to insist on my own toothbrush. 😉😆
GALLETAS MARÍA Y CHOCOLATE CALIENTE best breakfast man
UK Andy.
When I ate them for a while - I'd dump a condensed milk sachet into each coffee and keep one back for lunch..
you makes MRE so interesting!
Dear Emmy!
The condense milk can be used in the cookies just as you would use peanut butter or even jam!
It was so interesting watching you mixing the cereal with condense milk!! Ahahahaha!
I love hearing Americans try to speak Spanish, the pronunciation makes my day haha it sounds so cute when they don’t know what they are saying
"Ok. Lets put it on a tray. "
"Nice. "
Good video :)
Anyone watch these before bed to relax? Her voice is so soothing and pure sounding
I don't know why watch lol your voice is so entertaining and pleasant
what was the heating unit used for? heating the water?
I've seen in other mre videos that sometimes you eat the condensed milk straight from the tube for a boost of energy. Also I feel like this one didn't have a proper meal in it, is this for use in between meals?
I gotta say Emmy...When the Zombie Apocalypse comes you are all set.....You have the ration thing down pat and you wield that knife like a biker chick...LOL
Love you videos...Unlike other people that do this, you are straight to the point and clear and concise...Thanks from Las Vegas
I'm amazed by her languages abilities, she reads and understands Spanish...love it!
your MREs are my fave to watch! Hi from London xxx
Normally, I do enjoy Emmy’s videos, but lately, I’ve noticed the lack of subtitles. As a deaf person, I do appreciate the subtitles. Please bring back using subtitles with your videos!
I love your videos its really fun to watch! ((:
I believe the salts are meant to be mixed in water and then drink. It's like Gatorade. Condensed milk can be used on cookies, biscuits, bread or alone 😊
I love your videos so much emmy♥️
leche condensada is mixed with water to make regular milk That you mix with the cacao . That is where we put our cereals
in the iberian countries (portugal and spain) milk is used a lot. where most countries put water, we put milk. it is weird that the mre didnt have coffee since its also part of both our cultures and it should absolutely be there. with the tea tho, no surprises. we are not tea lovers to the point we need it daily.
the water in the sinks, showers, and fountains at my school is very very chlorinated. Even filtering tap water in a brita intensified that pool water flavor. not sure if it's healthy to drink even though it's been through the brita system?
Was waiting for another one of these videos
4:20 you might be tasting some sort of preservative. Rehydration in an emergency situation (such as what MREs are used in) requires a certain amount of sugar to accelerate the absorption into the patient's bloodstream. Artificial sweeteners do not contain sugar. In cases of dehydration, which can actually kill you fairly quickly (diarrhea, dysentery, etc), a lot of people who have limited to no access to medical help need to use this recipe: 1 pinch of salt + 1 handful of sugar in liter of water.
Some countries let their stuff look like some company, brand, whatever thing. So iconic.
Spanish things fit in that. Wine, guns, food - they seem to come from "Spain™". I like that. It doesn't feel like cheap merchandise or sort of sacral US cult relics, it's just this "Ah yes, it's Spanish©"
Lots of British products have that too.
I love these Military Ration videos!
one of the most fun things, we did was to swap fieldrations from all over the world with the french ringing at the absolute top followed close by the italian and the most vile one was the ukrainian one where so old and from the warsaw pact days. but it was fun to watch them issue their bread ration whith the whole company standing at attention and with one man cutting from giant loaf of wheat bread and a another man with the back to them yelling out the name of the soldier who was to receive it, what a way to promote unit cohersement.
I love how u open and try everything!
I believe the condensed milk is meant for the biscuits. Potentially the cocoa if it wasn't too sweet already . At least that's how eat it in my house. My mom is Spanish and my dads Italian.
I have a question I love your channel but after you get done tasting the food do you finish it or what do you do with it
Was the lemon powder really for eating...or was it meant to put in water? 00?
I missed what was the main course. Was there one?
For condensed milk, I would have put it in with the chocolate to make hot chocolate milk, or condensed milk with hot water by itself makes hot sweet milk, which is good by itself. The hot milk would be great with the biscuits.
