As a disabled Army veteran who has eaten countless MRE’s, I think Emmy does a wonderful job as a civvie tasting MRE’s! Keep up the great work! This veteran has your back!
@Melokacool no. It's not polite. Asking someone that is very rude. It's none of your business. It's no one's business but stef's and their doctor. You don't need to know.
Melokacool No matter how you ask, you do not ask a disabled person such things. It is rude. Sincerely, another disabled vet who doesn’t have to tell you how.
If Emmy could just write a book and then also record the audiobook herself I would listen to it to fall asleep every night. Her voice is so soothing to me ❤️
We use chlorhexidine scrubs to prep skin for PICC lines ( peripherally inserted central catheters ). Its a serious cleanser for sure. The ethanol is for fast drying purposes.
It is used in skin prep for a lot of different surgeries both in human and veterinary fields. Good antiseptic with a 5 min skin contact that is improved and shortened by mixing with alcohol
Also is there Xylitol gum that doesn’t have aspartame? It seems like all gum has aspartame but I don’t believe it’s good for you after reading about it.
Not sure about the gum, but you can buy pure powdered xylitol and also xylitol mouth rinses without aspartame, so you can get the benefits still. Also, honestly, even if aspartame is bad for you (which, no comment on if it is or not because that's not my point), the amount in a piece of gum is very very small and therefore fine. The dose makes the poison.
As soon as you said "smells like hostess crumb cakes" for the cinnamon bun I knew exactly what you meant, I super appreciate your discriptivness, it makes it wonderful😁😍😄 Bangs
Vanessa Feliciano she's one of the only food channels I watch consistently for that exact reason! Really helps get a feel for what the food is like without even tasting!
In the US and Canada entrée usually means the main course. And what we consider the entrée is a "starters" and is specified as soup, salad or whatever in US English.
I bet so much research and thought goes into designing these things. They have to be nutritionally complete, light weight, easily mass produced, clearly labeled, super water and air tight, et cetera
Right?! I would love to be on an MRE R&D team! It’s like the combination of cooking and trying to solve a bunch of tricky puzzles, all mixed together! 💖
It could, but in the field every team in the Norwegian Army gets equipped with camping stoves, so using the wipes like that is pointless. What the wipes are EXTREMELY useful for, however, is cleaning your hands after handling the stove. If you get even the tiniest drop of fuel on your hands and happen to ingest it, you will get diarrhea. A common and very nasty prank is to actually put a drop of fuel in someone's mess kit.
I know in the US navy(all us military) the green, yellow, and red, are basically healthy to unhealthy. The sodium intake. If you go to a navy mess decks they have the colors to inform you of which foods will be the most effective for your body. It's called "Go for Green"
When I was in the Army we were the first soldiers to actually use the newly developed Drytech rations. A good thing as well because we were unfortunate enough to be be issued the formerly used RSP rations when the Drytech stuff ran out. RSP are commonly known as "dead man in a can" for good reason...
Love your videos Emmy! :) I have a little fun fact for you. As you mentioned, there is quite a few items in the ration that has the brandname "REAL" on it. In norwegian "real" means proper/ honest/ decent. It's a way of describing someone or something that is true, trustworthy and/ or genuin. It's quite a compliment if someone calls you "real" in Norway :)
I'm from Texas, and I remember being super young and our household lived off MRE's for weeks following a huge hurricane. There was a beef stroganoff that I really liked. Ever since, stroganoff has always been very comforting.
Thank you Emmy for saving my day. I was looking for some new MRE vids, but found nothing on the MRE reviewer channels, then I saw the notification about this vid. :) Oh, by the way, I really love your Hungarian sweets videos. Greetings from Hungary.
Emmy can you do another video of what you feed your kids in a day or week? I sometimes have a hard time coming up with new stuff for my little one. Love these videos
sscfc1 I wonder if you can produce a better MRE review than Emmy, do that then post the link here so that your point has validation. If not, go away and come back when you're not being so shallow minded please. 😊
sscfc1 You're either ignoring or just not aware that 'Steve1989MREInfo' and 'emmymadeinjapan' are two entirely different channels, despite both of them being about stuff you can eat. Your criticism is misplaced and that is why it isn't well received.
I'm a camper as well but live in the PacNW where we get so serious about our coffee. I'm not making this up. We really do take French presses or drip cones and fresh ground coffee for car camping. For backpacking there are backpacking cones as well. No one I know would drink instant coffee but I do understand the nostalgia for childhood flavors that are other than we would choose now. Scent and taste evoke our most primal memories.
Instant coffee reminds me of my grandmother's afternoon coffee that went with her "story" (Soap Opera). We are from Louisiana and coffee is a serious thing here but we did our REAL coffee in the morning and once a day was enough for most days. Ha, and because of that, I find it comforting as well!
Instant coffee makes me think of "imitation coffee" from the book 1984. I actually take it a step further with coffee and use a percolator. I will not use a drip machine, mainly do to them leeching plastic compounds into the coffee.
When I vacationed in NOLA, I learned to love chicory! I cannot find anything that can match the taste, not even the same brand. Just like grits. I despise grits in Oklahoma but I recently ate them in Georgia and they were amazing!!
@@dedratiger806 Chicory coffee became popular in central Europe during WW 2 as well. My parentd always prepared it for me, when I was a child, to have some kind of a coffee-drink without caffeine as well. Thanks for reminding me, I need to get se, haven't had it in years 😊
Emmy, you are the true lovely my new friend! This video is great! I love when you get to try the ration packs from different countries, I’ve learned a lot.
This is so cool! I love that they have allergy facts, and instructions on how to take care of your body! I wish more militaries would do these simple things to keep their troops happy and healthy!
Chlorhexidine is extremely powerful and a concentration of 0.5% is definitely sufficient for cleaning hands before eating. We use the same concentration at work before surgery to clean an operative sight.
Anyone else get the feeling Emmy is a mom-friend? The kind of person that just naturally acts maternal with friends regardless of whether they actually have kids? I know she has her boys, but she comes across as someone who'd ask if you've been eating and taking care of yourself, always has what's needed in her bag, etc etc
this may sound weird, but it is SO good i promise you but cut some hot dogs (about 2) into slices and add it to a pan of slightly caramelized onions (maybe around half an onion), and add a mixture of ketchup and sriracha (around 2 tbsp of ketchup, and 1tbsp of sriracha. you can play with the amounts and adjust according to your tastes), add a drizzle of sesame oil, add a sprinkle of sugar, let it all cook together on the pan until the sauce mix has thickened up a bit, serve with rice, and there you have my childhood favourite non-traditional korean side dish. it tastes like a a more tangy asian inspired bbq sauce almost.
I remember I used to watch your tasting vids a lot a few years back, but I guess with life I forgot, but randomly was stumbling through videos and found these again. Super happy! I missed your vids ^_^
Emmy anything like the drink or meal that has an external fill line just fold the package and crease it on the line to be able to see the line inside as well.
I'm sure it's been said, but the reason the coffee tastes burnt is that you put hot water straight in. You should use milk or cold water to dissolve the granules before adding the hot water. Love all your videos.
The chlorhexidine is a disinfectant that is long lasting after contact. We use it in the Vet clinic to wash our hands and as part of the surgical preparation
Nice review. Ethanol is the alcohol you drink. Rubbing alcohol is isopropyl alcohol and is itself used as a disinfectant. Chlorhexidine only needs to be used in a small quantity to achieve an antiseptic effect. Europeans invariably drink their coffee black and without sugar.
A lot of baking videos say coffee kind of enhances chocolate and its flavour makes it more chocolate tasting which is why they go together so well ! :)
This is probably needless information, but yes, the chlorhexidine is a disinfectant, often used for surgical disinfectant! It's in low concentration because it's VERY strong, only a very heavy dilution is needed :-)
Emmy would you consider trying surströmming? It would be very interesting to know what you think about it. Thank you! Love your input and descriptions of everything you try!
Emmy, I don't know if you could make it work, but it work be amazing to see you take these packs out and use them in the way they were intended for, as in no kitchen, self made campfire situation, 😊, but I do understand that may not be possible.
Norway in the summer is not particularly hot but in the winter it's also not super bitterly cold. Although it is dark. Lots of snow in the winter but it's not so bad. I would describe the weather and heat in Norway as pleasant year round. The chocolate at 60 percent I feel is about perfect actually. I like it at that percentage actually but I've also been known to eat 100 percent baking chocolate as well and others find it strange. It's the full chocolate flavor though, no sweetness or milk or anything else getting in the way.
+emmymadeinjapan can't you turn the ration tasting playlist around so it starts with the oldest instead of starting with the newest? because when you just set the playlist to play, you will get the videos where you are talking about what you have tried before, before you actually see them
