Bummer, it's a short version! The longer version has a great solo. I have about 12 of his CDs, plus I bought a book/cd collection he put out, 11 cds, each a different type of blues. My son is a real blues fan, so I have that to him. Thanks for doing this one, it's a great summer song!
The video is very nice. I love a beach scene. I live by a beach, and will be taking a walk after this video is done. I've always liked this guy's music.
I also live by the coast here near Bristol .. but I somehow don’t think the experience of having a walk on the beach is the same in my case OnceWas.. mine is rocky , with an extensive mud flat rather than sun kissed sand and it’s watered by the phookin freezing Bristol Channel .. 🤦♂️… I hope your walk is in a more traditionally beach lovely spot 😅 👍🏴
Abs love this song , melodically very simple but once his voice and great guitar work is added it all comes together , it’s a simply beautiful ear worm . MightyV beat me to it mentioning this is the speeded up version, the slower one is even more ethereal and uplifting . 👍🏴

Chris Rea has a very smooth voice & this backing track is perfect for him. Nice driving song in the afternoon on a lazy summer day. Smooth , Sade could have done it.
Yes , that’s a great analogy . When I hear her voice it’s like sliding down a water park chute covered in a mixture of honey and Vaseline 😄- smoooooooooth ! 😆 👍🏴
@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering I guess many think the 1986 version is better. I'll try to listen it. My Waterpark 🛝 days are thankfully over but a tea 🍵 with honey 🍯 is good ..Beware of the Bee 🐝 !

This is my favourite Chris Rea song, it's a great song. This song has been sampled a few times, the ones that I know of are: "York - On The Beach" 1999, "Nora en Pure - On The Beach" 2016, "E-People feat' C Robert Walker - We Loved" 2001, "Jubël - On The Beach" 2019, "Adrima - On The Beach" 2018, "Vee Tha Rula - Go Hard" 2015, "Danny Darko - Lost Angel" 2020, "DjamSinclar - Bora Bora" 2021, "Sonic Palms - On The Beach" 2009, "Lorenzo Al Dino feat' Austin Howard - On The Beach" 2007.
And also, this version was actually a remake of an earlier, slower one! Which was ultimately the same, but it didn't have the harmony guitar that accompanies the riff from the middle of the song onwards. And I prefer that older version 🙂
I've got all Chris's albums and they're brilliant. This version isn't representative of the album track, try listening to that for the true sound. Great that you're listening to Chris Rea though. Give "Road Songs For Lovers a listen.
I think this songs main guitar riff was sampled for a German dance band called York in about 99 or 2000 , it was a hit in the uk def , could THAT be the track your reminded of Cynthia ? 👍🏴
Crazy I know .. but the bass part of the middle 8 sounds like the incidental music in a Canadian tv production called “ How it’s made “.. which I adore … could it be THAT your thinking of too ? 👍🏴
It's kind of a shame you reacted to the dance-lite version of this song. The album version is so much more beautiful, mysterious, and wistful. This one just powers through with the subtlety of a steam train.
Hello told ya backtracking through your video's. . Are you guys chilling breathing relaxing? I don't like beaches Sun Glare heat sand sharks jelly fish
Well you clearly don't know this song very well, cos if you did you'd know that what you are listening to and recognise is THIS song! Give me strength lol
I never saw the appeal of Chris Rea but he seems to be Popular enough. It does go to show it takes the Mediocre for us to appreciate the Good and the Great.

Love this song and could happily listen to this in the car driving to the beach, on the beach and driving all the way home.
When I went to Teesside University in the late eighties, there was a closed shop called "Rea's Ices", which was ran by Chris's family.
Flavoured ice cones or something like that?
I love the feel of Chris Rea's music.
The original album version from 1986 was a lot slower, this version was a far more commercial remix & became a big summer hit in 1988.
I've always liked this song!
Oohhh, me likey this song. 🙂. Never heard of this man or this song. Great song 👍👍
