The last test coffe you made, that "stove top espresso" isn't an espresso. It is a moka pot coffee. It's the kind of coffee people in Italy have at home. The only way to make an espresso is with a machine, since espresso requires pressure and a stovetop pot (maybe with the exception of the Kamira) can't produce the pressure to make espresso. Moka or napoletana are the traditional Italian home coffee pots. The we go out for espresso.

I’ve used a nanopresso heaps - they’re designed to give you espresso (with a crema) whilst camping, or without access to a coffee machine. They do take a bit of effort, because you have to build up the pressure. They make a really good shot of espresso that’s totally comparable to what you’d get from a machine.

Coming from Vietnam, which is a huge coffee-exporting country, I also get super weird look when I say I don't like it. I can drink coffee, and I do if I really need to stay awake, but given the choice I wouldn't choose coffee. Milk with coffee or coffee flavoured cake maybe. Might just be a theory but I was given very strongly brewed coffee when I was small which made me vomit, gave me a headache, and made me stay up for 2 days so I guess the experience stays and made me dislike it. Also homebrew coffee in Vietnam is much stronger than the Westerner kinds, on that note tea too.

A few things you should know about the Bripe (and anyone one watching with unfamiliar with it): It is intended to be used to make a small strong shorty of coffee like espresso or Turkish/Greek/Arabic/Cuban coffee which are all served in small but strong servings (Espresso is also served with steamed milk added as part of a cappuccino or Cafe Late). So that is why it only makes a small amount of coffee at a time. It is designed to be used b y hikers, campers, and backpackers who want a strong shot of coffee (and caffeine) when out in the wilderness without having to lugged a larger camping coffee maker or in the case of hiker, not have to have a camping stove or fire to make coffee with. Thus this provides an all in one solution that doesn’t need a separate coffee cup and can be heated by a mini- torch quickly. Thus you can get a quick caffeine boost while hiking on a trail without much too effort or fiddling with larger and more cumbersome coffee making device. Of course if small shots of very strong coffee isn’t your thing then this ins’t for you,, and other camping coffee makers exist that make regular American brewed coffee that would suit you better. I should also point out the novelty of the design plays in it’s favor too since it’s fun way to make and drink coffee.
