As a disabled person with a degree in Industrial Design, I like his left handed oil test. I can no longer work and miss it terribly.
If it's a slightly boiled potato, it would be a lot faster to just peel it with your fingers. The skin will come off in a few large pieces and you don't waste any of the flesh.
@@artificialworm2610 Exactly this. You don't even need the gloves for that - a nail brush works just as well, but it's a major failing by Dan to not use water in the process. Seriously - who would use those without water?
They should give him Sugru or hand mouldable plastic so that he can do quick improvements. Not on everything, but it'd be nice to see things like grips or that bump he wanted on the shrimp peeler.
My rotato express is going strong after 2.5 years (purchased on amazon in June 2017). While I agree that repositioning the blade is very difficult it has absolutely stood the test of time and I enthusiastically recommend it.
i really appreciate that this guy is calling attention to the importance of gadgets for folks with mobility issues and assessing these things on that basis
Me : rub oil in my left hand before using the blender My home economic teacher : what the hell are you doing ? Me : sir, the thought that you didn't know this technique has left me disappointed
All the ads I've seen for those potato mitts imply that you're supposed to use them under running water, maybe that'd reduce the clogging? But if you can get those mitts you should easily be able to get a peeler, so it's a moot point.
I've had a "rotopeeler" (think that's what it's called - the logo wore off years ago) for ~15-20 years, which is just like the potato express but much better. The bottom pins are metal and the pinch actually is larger, making it easier to pinch. It's electric, not battery operated. I've used this thing at least once a month all those years and love it when I'm peeling a large quantity of potatoes. I still just use a traditional potato peeler when I am peeling just one or two eggs.
7:17 i would put a silicon or rubber sleeve over similar to wants on the handles of pliers, or similar to those pencil grips that you slide into the pencil
With the garlic shaker, you can do the same thing with two metal bowls. Put garlic in and shake and they will all be peeled. That shaker is just a cup basically and you wouldn't even need the fins really.
i do believe the mitts are for fully boiled potatoes, where the foremost utility is you don't burn your hands while peeling, and secondly it would take very few movements to peel the skin off.
For peeling garlic there are rubber tubes with knobs inside. You put the garlic inside, squeeze it with your hand and rub for 3 seconds and you will have perfectly peeled garlic.
The tatermitts just look like a bulkier version of the potato-pealing mitts we have at home, using them under running water on unboiled potatoes makes them incredibly effective. Tho ye they're not usable for people with dexterity problems.
You can do your own garlic shaker at home with a mason jar or Tupperware. It’s definitley easier with garlic that’s been in your pantry a couple of days
I will never understand how companies embarrass themselves with product launches of products that are barely tested. How does this even happen? Don’t they know consumers will buy it and know it doesn’t work? 🤔😧🤨🤷🏻♀️
I don’t think the shrimp comparison was fair because in the tool version he didn’t remove it all off the shrimp, but in the manual version he did. So yeah that’s why it took longer.
Wondering, wouldn't the potato mitts have worked better if the potatoes had been submerged in a bowl of water? Would have helped prevent clogging up the gloves with potato skin

What if you ran water while you used the potato gloves? Would the water rinse the gloves and potato clean while being able to continue peeling without the gloves getting clogged up?
i have the Rotato express,it work pretty well until the spike broke, so i just cast some aluminum into the spike shape molt and use that instead It work really good now.
Am I the only one that just cuts and removes the outermost layer of the onion with the skin still attached? It’s way easier than peeling and you don’t lose much onion.
Try potato peeler gloves under water. This should stop clogging. Additionally, i noticed you using oil bottle for oil test. The thing which strikes my mind here is, why don't you use oil dispenser (like hand wash dispensers).
46 seconds to peel an onion? I think if he cut it in half he could've done it in half the time. Then again - a lot of people "cheat" by peeling off one of the layers and not just the skin, which makes it a lot faster (and easier to cut, since the outer layer is often a bit more dry and more separated from the other layers)
