I would say all of your videos are extremely helpful, true, and easy for anyone seasoned or new to brush up or hop up on the bartending wagon. I like how you really trim the fat and get right into need to know in all the vids.
    Thanks for the content!

    Jason, fantastic episodes on getting a job and in 48 hours. I just finished a wine program at the local college and an international specialization in wine, wset 3. I have no experience serving, so I plan some volunteer work in local restaurants. I have a day job, so weekend party work and some shift work is enough for now. Thanks for the tips. Cheers!!

    • @BartendingPro
      @BartendingPro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Correct. Its the difference between supplying and working. We're just working, supplying requires very specific and expensive licenses and insurance coverage. Check local state guidelines, consult a tax and legal professional. Generally this format is a basic hired hand "working under the table" for cash. If you supply alcohol in any way, expand your gigs/start to make a full time income or have others working for you, regular business requirements come into play which is beyond the scope of this video, or channel for that matter.

    Dollar Tree has business card holders. I used to volunteer to serve at a neighborhood association social. I do not purchase the alcohol, do not serve at any other time. We are to limit it to two per person and I have people try to get me to drink to distract or lose count, I stick to water. Said drinker can ask the other volunteer for their third drink. I also think there is a difference between if the event is on private property such as a home or a park, rented space. Best to inquire. Even if I am only a server there is an issue if I over serve, have been warned about it but do not chance it. Look up dram shop laws and your state. Even if you were to be an independent contractor and pay insurance it is better than the liability which can become civil. I also used to serve at a concert venue as an extra, there was a contract in place regarding the liability since there were many sources of alcohol at the venue. BTW it was good money in my 20s, I'd drop plans to work a concert. I listed myself directly with the venue. Informative video, well done. By the way, Barnivore App is useful to understand in case there are people with dietary restrictions.

    • @BartendingPro
      @BartendingPro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can say you'll make them the "special" drink, but let them know that you only had a limited amount of "special" garnishes. Really you can play this however you want. Maybe bring enough to make anyone who asks a "special" drink. The whole point is to just entice people to come talk to us beyond "I'll take a rum and coke."

    Thanks for the informational videos! What do bartenders do in terms of acquiring health insurance? Do you have to get a health insurance plan independently on your own or are there bartenders organizations out there that help you get health insurance? Do some restaurants/bars/night clubs offer health insurance? I have no idea how this works and am curious to learn.

    Hey Jason, I just signed up for your Bartending Pro Blue-Print and I have to say your content is absolutely awesome and by far the best out there. I wanted to ask you though, in your previous video content on the Blue Print you said that you've never made under $200 doing private event bartending. I was curious if the prices have lowered on average from $200 down to $100 per event for private party bartenders? Anyways bro I love all of your teachings, and I hope you're healing up after your injury. My family lives down in Carlsbad, so hopefully one day I'll be able to checkout the bar you work at and have the pleasure of meeting you in person and buy you a drink. Cheers mate.

    • @BartendingPro
      @BartendingPro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      What's up Brent, stoked to hear you're part of the BB fam! I still stand by my personal claims of never really going under $200, but wanted to reframe this lesson for what the average party bartender should expect, especially if brand, brand new. It's tough to put specific numbers because there are so many variables, and that original video is based on my personal experiences in a higher end market. $100 is very achievable for anyone, and you will likely go above that more often then you'll stick to it. Your specific location and market are everything, and if you're in a densely populated area (like you are here in SD), there will be much more higher paying gig opportunities. Track my down on my personal social profiles, I'd be stoked to have a beer some day :) PS, more updated lessons, ebook, testing and certification coming down the pipe for BB members in the coming weeks and months!

      First let me say I'm not a legal or tax expert, so make sure you talk to them, especially if you do this beyond a couple gigs to get some extra $$$ and basic experience. How you hold or register your business (SP, P, LLC, CORP) has to do with your tax preferences and risk tolerance. Again, consult with an expert and be crystal clear about the laws in your specific state. Most aspiring bartenders are looking to get into a traditional establishment so this video is more about enabling you to start working quickly and make a few extra bucks on the side than it is about running a full service party bartender business. But you can scale to that from this, absolutely. So if you go big, make sure you have you're legals sorted.

      Technically you wouldn't even need a serve safe. Serve safe is for food handling and sales of food. Like you said, your only providing services. Also, from my past business experience. An LLC is best to have in case of a lawsuit. If you dont pay for an LLC and get sued for some idiodic reason. You will secure your future at best. When getting sued without an LLC, you will risk losing your own personal possessions like a home. LLC will protect you from the person suing you to take your home. Also I recommend setting up a DBA. Doing business as. This will separate a trail of history following you forever. I'm not a expert. This is just from my knowledge of having a few small businesses. I wish you luck and I'm sure you'll be fine.

    • @BartendingPro
      @BartendingPro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what you're after. Generally in private party bartending you don't provide the alcohol, the client does. A mobil bar service is a completely different animal requiring business registration, hefty insurance and whatever else my be required by your state/municipality. Private gigs you're basically a hired hand to tend the bar and pour drinks, that's essentially it. Hope that helps!
