Got this one because it's cute and simple, something my wife is always up for. I can teach this game in about 30 seconds (maybe less if playing with more experienced roll & writers). Doesn't add any new or exciting mechanics to the scene, but it is inviting and welcoming. Will probably get to the table easily

Highlighter works really well versus pen. Much easier to see what you have marked off and still looks pretty....versus pen scribbles. 👍

Colored pencils would probably work well too - and you could have colors matching the flowers if you wanted to

I got this for 80 cents at BAM on a special. I laminated several of the sheets and play this solo when I want something small and mindless to keep my hands busy. Its great for that purpose.

Thanks for this review. I was about to ask what R&W game DID check all of the boxes for you (no pun intended!), and then saw that you already have a video naming your top 10. Gonna check that one out now. Great review!

Thematic question. You get an unhappy customer point for giving them 4 flowers instead of 3??

    • @PandaOfElastic
      @PandaOfElastic 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Maybe cost is taken into account? I, as a customer, ask for something in a 3 flower bouquet price range. You give me a 4 bouquet instead, priced as such.

Presumably because you’re making them pay extra for flowers they don’t want.

David Phillips No, it’s the opposite: they want 3, but you gave them 4.

"No reason to exist.", that was funny.
I'm thinking this would be good for a first game type of R&W for a 4 or 5 year old. I might pick it up.

Check out Harvest Dice instead. My 5yo loves it.

      I'll surely do that.

Fair review, I also got a bit of a Noch Mal feel about it, and agree that that game is better than Bloom. I do like having a collection of roll and writes for lunchtimes and as fillers, and the short play time and low price means I'll happily have this in my collection. It is very light though.

I think when you (the Dice Tower) review games you should perhaps place them against other games in their category and if you believe there are better games you should point us to those reviews. I’m someone who loves games, but I only get to play what I buy, so for me this may be worth a shot as I’ve no idea as to what you’re comparing to. Just a thought.

Welshy compare their other game Quixx or Roll for America. I have those to and comparing to what Zee said they are much better.

But Zee did say Noch Mal!, direct comparrison. As far as the genre, that is more of either a Back Talk, Top Ten, or just search BGG for Roll & Write geeklists. Many, many collector-reviewers will have comparrison lists or Blogs already

Thanks for the replies guys. What I’m getting at is that Dice Tower should point me in those directions instead of me having to go elsewhere. Don’t get me wrong, I like the Dice Tower and I’m a subscriber, so this is as much a helpful comment for them to improve things rather than a criticism. Thanks again! 👍

Thanks for the review! I actually think that I'm going to pick it up as a graduation gift for my niece who is graduating with a horticulture degree :-)
And I might just pick a copy up for myself because I like the dice! LOL

Hey Zee you did a KS review about a game about spaceships and exploring the solar system. The game board kind of looked like Catan. What is the name of that game. Thanks!

Ran into a Kohl's on Christmas Eve and saw this game but after looking at it I decided to pass and then I watched your video. Now I'm REALLY glad I held off.

I was standing in Wal-Mart with this game in my hand and didn’t purchase it, based on your review. Thanks, Zee.

I like this one. I like the roll and write without and reading required (for my little kids) though it does seem so what dull.

As a game designer and avid fan who has ran the gamut of super complex to brain dead games, I rather enjoy this game.
Its an incredibly simple design, with a bit of more involved strategy for give/take penalties vs gains.
Think... a simplified yahtzee with more of a visual component.
Picked it up for 5 bucks off a gift card. No regrets

Learning what dice to leave your opponents when you are the first player, when to take penalties over limiting your future option choices is a satisfying hurdle.

I would think kids would enjoy it. At least that’s why I’m looking into it.

I can see this game appealing to young girls … might make a nice present for them! Also, it might be a fun filler for an end-of-gaming night when brains are fried from playing deeper games. I can see a place for it on my shelf. Thanks for the review, Zee!

Not a huge fan of roll and writes. Maybe good for a small gift.
