What a fabulously simple and right to the point explanation. Love from a medical student in Iceland.

Thank you for this great explanation doctor!
The only part I can't understand is today I had a patient with recurrent pleural effusions and pneumothorax. We placed a chest tube and then the talc slurry was infused in through the chest tube.
The part I don't understand is how does the talc go from inside the pleural space to the lining of the chest wall? For some reason it feels like the talc should be applied to the outer surface of the pleura so it sticks to the chest wall.
In other words how does it get from inside the pleural space to the chest wall? Is the pleural lining so thin that having it inside the pleural space causes it to adhere to the chest wall? Ty!

I’ve had a chemical pleurodesis done twice on my right lung and once on my left lung. My lungs had masses of blebs that just kept popping. This started when I was 23, I’m 57 now and still have pain from the procedures. But I’ve been able to live with both lungs expanded. This is a horribly painful procedure.

Same thing happened to me at the same age except it was my left lung both times, after the 2nd time, they did the pleurodesis with the talcum powder and I’ve had pain on the left side of my chest ever since.. But the most painful part of the whole thing for me was actually the drain tube that goes in between the ribs.. That hurt worse than the collapsed lung itself

Which parts of the two pleurae are treated exactly for recurrent pneumothorax in the young? Is any part of the mediastinal pleura (or the visceral pleura facing it) included?
