I study nursing and medical science for fun. I’ve always wanted to be a nurse, but because I have a form of autism and I hate hospitals, and some of my family makes fun of my decision to go to nursing school because they think firefighter jobs are better (I’m not currently in school for nursing, but I really want to!). I’ve felt discouraged since, but I still love medical science. Thanks for explaining it clearly, and I love your enthusiasm!🫁🫀🩺👩🏼⚕️
Agent 47, go for your goals!!! You will do AMAZING things, and each day intentionally decide to do better, be stronger, and take action towards your goal! You've got this, friend! 😊
Cool video! Very informative, I had a lung collapse back in 2015 in a swimming pool, doctors told me it was probs also because I was skinny and tall. They say it's more common for men with lean body frames.
Fabulous vid, Christina! My nursing and allied health students that are currently taking their classes via distance learning really appreciate it. Well done!

I wish my books for PCP were even a quarter as understandable. I absorbed more in four minutes than I do staring at a textbook for 30 minutes and the TP/TP thing is 100% going to stick with me and THANK YOU for that one.

Can you explain why the air can't get out of the plural space during a tension pneumo? I understand that the opening acts as a one-way valve but I don't understand why it happens during a tension pneumo and not a regular pneumo.
Great questions, Ahava Bdner! With a tension pneumo, like you said it creates a one way valve where the air can go in, but cannot escape causing the lung to collapse, which is different than a pneumothorax. To remove the air from the pleural space with a needle to decompress the area. I hope that helps, Thank you for being here😊
Jenaan Mahmoud, great question! When there is a tension pneumothorax the pressure in the chest cavity so the trachea is pulled to the unaffected side. I hope that helps clarify it for you. :)
So happy to hear this video was helpful for you, Richard Mendoza! 😊 We LOVE hearing how our resources helped you feel more confident in your knowledge! Hope you have a fantastic day, Richard Mendoza. 😀
Jay Allen, great question. So a closed pneumothorax is classified as something where the chest wall still remains intact to the outside environment. An open pneumothorax is where it is open to the outside environment. Yes, a tension pneumo is a closed one, and a sucking chest wound is an open one. Hope this helps. Thanks, friend! Have a fantastic day! :)
So happy to hear this video was helpful for you, Fernando Hernandez! You will do GREAT! Thank you for being here, your support means the world to us. 😊

When you inhale, air leaves the plural space (lungs increase volume). When you exhale, air enters plural space (lung volume gets smaller)... Is that right?
Kieran Broadfield, when you inhale air moves into the pleural space and when you exhale air moves out of the pleural space. Hope that helps to clarify it! :)
Thanks for the video! Really helps with my EMS classes. For anyone else studying, tension pneumothorax is one reason we'd see JVD in a trauma case (the other being cardiac tamponade).

Huh...I've never thought about that before. I honestly don't know...
