I had this procedure today. Came back to youtube comments to try and help anyone else who is worried like I was. Half a litre of fluid drained from my left lung. I had a main doctor and 3 trainee doctors. I blocked out the distraction focused on my breathing and thoughts. My top tip I took 2 stress balls squeezed hard in each hand. The doctors said a great idea, they might get some for the patients. Thankfully, I didn't feel much, only the slight movement of the tube going in and taken out and a slight bee sting like scratch from the needle when the anasthetic first went in. It's very similar to a catheter being inserted into your arm. The anticipation before the procedure is the worst bit. I sat leaning forward for approx 15 mins whilst fluid was drained into a bag. I felt an uncomfortable pop like sensation and called out. The doctor checked said fluid had slowed removed the tubes etc. For 2hrs after I felt a bubbling sensation on breathing in. The doctor said nothing to worry about. I had a chest xray after procedure. The doctor reassured me no air pockets everything normal. I will get the fluid biopsy results in a week or so time. Meanwhile anesthetic wore off approx 1.5 to 2hrs later. 12hrs later im a bit sore probably mostly the incision site. Hurts if I try to breathe in too deeply, move around, cough sneeze burp and yawn. Basically anything that involves breathing deeply. I've since taken paracetamol and codeine. Lots of rumbling from high up in my stomach causing gas build up discomfort. Probably things adjusting now the fluids gone. Another good tip so glad I bought some really good A shaped pillows at home before hand for extra support to prop myself upright comfortably in bed. I will see how everything feels when I wake up tomorrow.
Hey I have to go through this tomorrow , the doctor is saying your fluid is thicken I'm so scareddddd.... please tell me something that will make me feel better
@Indias_Neuclear_Arsenals As I mentioned above, I had this procedure yesterday. Today, I'm absolutely fine with no need for any painkillers, which surprised me. Most of the discomfort was on the same day hours after the procedure and when the anasthetic wore off, but it was only mild discomfort that does pass the next day. Make sure your bed is very comfortable with pillows. Today, I've noticed improvement in my breathing and walked to the shops normally. Either way, after the procedure, you will feel much better than before the procedure, so try to think positively. If you are anxious, have a go-to mental thought to focus on during the procedure and something too squeeze tight in your hand. The anasthetic, if done properly, makes you feel very little. Best wishes to you.
@waynef.8158 Good luck to you and your dad. 4 weeks on, I'm much better, and my breathing is much better too, and I feel stronger. Once the fluid is drained, your lungs are trying to adjust, so another tip is I did some breathing exercises for about a week 15 mins a day to help my lungs adjust and inflate (some in morning and some in evening). I breathed in slowly through my nose with lips closed and then blew out through my mouth, similar to blowing up a balloon. You could perhaps look up some breathing exercises on youtube. Obviously, im not a doctor, but I can only advise based on sharing my experience and what worked well for me. Best wishes to you and your dad. He's very lucky to have you for support. I'm sure you are a great comfort to him.

I had this procedure last month and a liter of fluid was drained from my right lung. I had pneumonia and my doctors linked it to a bacterial infection called Q Fever. The infection was so bad that I had dry cough and atrial fibrillation causing tachycardia. I'm better now.
Hello brother is that short term drainage tube process is painful, cuz my doctor took 10ml sample from right lung with simple syringe it was little painful without any anesthesia but now I'm worried about other proces to drain it out all and my age is 20.
@Shashvt I had local anesthesia in the entry point of the drainage tube, so there was no pain, but you do feel the sensation of having a foreign object in your chest. When it was removed, there was no anesthesia used and the doctor yanked it out really quick. There was a slight pinch if pain but not drastic.
@benyosef6570 It took just over 3 weeks. The main concern was getting my White Blood Cell count (WBC) down between 4k and 11k per micro-liter. I was over 20k when I got to the hospital.
I had one end of a pipe inserted on water tank and I was sucking the water out from the other end.. in the process I ended up with some water entering my lungs.. the water was full of dirt and rotten leaves.. should I be worried doctor?

Do they do this for covid 19 patient's showing fluid in their lungs?
Thanks 😊 Dr Khalid
THANK YOU DOCTOR
I had this procedure last month and a liter of fluid was drained from my right lung. I had pneumonia and my doctors linked it to a bacterial infection called Q Fever. The infection was so bad that I had dry cough and atrial fibrillation causing tachycardia. I'm better now.
Also, because I subsequently still had more fluid in my lung, they had a short-term drainage tube in my lung and another 400 CCs were drained.
Hello brother is that short term drainage tube process is painful, cuz my doctor took 10ml sample from right lung with simple syringe it was little painful without any anesthesia but now I'm worried about other proces to drain it out all and my age is 20.
How long did it take for you to recover
@Shashvt I had local anesthesia in the entry point of the drainage tube, so there was no pain, but you do feel the sensation of having a foreign object in your chest. When it was removed, there was no anesthesia used and the doctor yanked it out really quick. There was a slight pinch if pain but not drastic.
@benyosef6570 It took just over 3 weeks. The main concern was getting my White Blood Cell count (WBC) down between 4k and 11k per micro-liter. I was over 20k when I got to the hospital.
Why isn't this used in covid?
Because the Covid causes pneumonia is in the lung sacs not in the pleural space.
I had one end of a pipe inserted on water tank and I was sucking the water out from the other end.. in the process I ended up with some water entering my lungs.. the water was full of dirt and rotten leaves.. should I be worried doctor?
Can this procedure use to a tuberculosis patient?
Yes
I had 1 liter drained one week ago, they did not do chest x-ray afterwards. I coughed more in the last week than I did prior to the procedure. Now have to go back and have it drained again today. I am dreading it !
how are you
@@almadominguez4408 Hi Alma, I am okay. I still have fluid around my lung, but not enough to have to get another Thoracentesis, thankfully. I'm getting a chemo port put in my chest next week and starting chemotherapy on Sept 20th. Thank you so much for asking. How are you ?
@@tottart56 how are you? Sorry can you be of help because my mother is going through same issue, she had first water removed and it came back again, I want to ask if there is any specific medication you too that stop the pains and discomfort
