Let's not forget also that MJ bought into this offense. MJ was furious about it at the beginning in '89. But he bought in. It was an equal opportunity offense where every player had their role. It was just heavily tilted toward MJ when he was on the floor, for good reason. But MJ played his part and was not ball-dominant for the last half of his career. He was still the scoring champ and the Bulls started winning rings over and over. I don't think there's ever been a greater player who exhibited more humility in order to win than MJ. Just plain and simple. The ball almost always found its way into his hands, but the offense worked the same when he wasn't on the floor. That's why the Bulls were so great.

One of the main keys/benefits to the triangle is it doesn't give you time to think about how you might screw up, like in iso-ball, and other weaker offenses with less movement. In the triangle, there is constant movement, and a smooth flow. It relaxes your brain and puts your brain and body in a good cohesive state. Good muscle memory.

I think fans don’t actually understand how disciplined Jordan was. He played in very restrictive systems with Dean Smith/Phil Jackson, yet rarely did he ever free-lance & break the offense. And when he did, it was usually at the end of game situations where possessions were more limited.
Just look at how he scored. There was no wasted dribble & he rarely forced shots. Even during Kobe’s last two titles, the Lakers broke out of the triangle on a regular basis and free-lanced the offense.

ESPN’s graphics department needs assistance understanding the content. The Triangle that gives the offence it’s name is formed by the wing, the corner, and the strong side post (not including the “Solo” Jackson refers to). It’s not just three random players - who, of course, if you connect by lines will form a triangle

  • @rgi8426

Probably the most basic rule of the triangle offense is someone has to be available to play Filler. Probably because of how plays were executed back in the day, where it was most of the time a 2 man setup, like the stockton to malone pick and roll. In the triangle offense, there has to be someone to fill the third leg of the triangle every play no matter the play.

It's almost as if people who falsely claim that LeBron is the GOAT, don't even understand what that acronym stands for, and what it actually means. The only reason Jordan has only 6 rings is because he left the NBA for 2 years in his prime. He easily could have won 4, 5, or even 8 rings in a row. Let that sink in for a moment.
Rodman and Scottie Pippen were right when they said that if Jordan played today, he would average 50 points a game. Because who's going to stop him today, in a league where hardly anyone plays defense? There's no hand checking or body checking. Then throw in the fact that the court has been spread so wide with all the 3 point shooting, Jordan would have had a field day. In the 90's many NBA teams had what were called "enforcers." These guys weren't on the floor because of their scoring prowess, these guys were goons, and they were there to intimidate and regulate the paint. That meant no easy dunks, layups or rebounds. They made opponents pay physically for every point they got in the paint. I remember watching games in the 90's when it looked as if a fight was going to break out after every foul, and many fights did. 😄 And then you had to deal with shutdown experts like Gary Payton out on the perimeter. Jordan played when the NBA was still a contact sport.

Jaime Cervantes this lacks context. For one, the bulls were the best team in the league. You can’t use this team, who was unique and ahead of its time, to represent the whole league at that particular. It’s like me showing warriors basketball and acting as if all teams play like that. I bet you if I showed you a large number of other teams you’d see nothing even close to this. Probably a lot of iso ball.

I can see why phil jackson was surprised at 3:13 that dennis didn't wait for kerr to get open off of the play and pass to kukoc instead. If anyone can check this play out, at exactly 3:13, kukoc guy was not looking at rodman and was away from kukoc, so it looked like kukoc was wide open for an easy shot and it was only sheer luck that the defender got a glimpse of rodman's pass to return back to his kukoc? btw- really do like to hear phil jackson do kobe's program and hear how he analyze's the game and show the uses of the triangle offense.
