This doesn’t look that difficult, but when you get on the court, everyone has to know exactly where to be, where to cut, you need to pay attention to where the ball is so you’re ready for it and be paying attention to when people move and then go fill that vacated spot. It looks so simple but my team tried to run this and if even one person doesn’t know where to be or isn’t paying attention even if they aren’t part of the triangle then the whole thing falls apart.
The triangle offense is for High IQ players, but also players who want to get better. The triangle makes you look at the game different because the court is now broken into sink or swim sections. If a player on the team does not understand where they are suppose to be they will put their defender in the passing lane. Or run into their teammate, this is the sink of it. But if everyone knows how to run it, it an amazing system. To me I call it the rotating triangle because it always moving and reshaping. With the picks and replacement of players a lot of defensives have no clue what's going on until they watch the tape.
I would tell you that's all organized ball. Every play, everybody needs to know their role and their part. Otherwise, the play breaks down. However the triangle is more forgiving. The triangle offense is easier in the sense that it's position less. Meaning the three players forming the triangle can be any position 1-5. It doesn't matter. It opens up opportunities to score in different ways. As you see in the last play. The 4 used the 2 to free up the 5 for a free throw line jumper. That's why the triangle is so great. I would argue it's harder to guard, than it is to run.
this is the reason I don't buy that whole "phil jackson got all them titles cuz of superstars" argument. there's plenty of teams that had multiple superstars that couldn't achieve or maintain this level of excellency and consistency.
The great thing about this offense is that there is constant movement off the ball and every person on the court has the same offensive responsibilities and opportunities. It doesn't matter who you sub into the game, their job is exactly the same. This allows everyone to get involved in the offense while at the same time creating fluid, organic opportunities for your best offensive players to score the ball.

Warriors didn't learn defense with Mark Jackson. Mark was more of a preacher than a coach. That's the reason he got canned. He doesn't even draw plays for the team on game day.
My coach in HS ran this for years and won 7 state titles. We started learning it in grade school at his basketball camps. He coached us it was all about timing and spacing. Loved it!
Awesome. I love in episode 3 when he’s talking about shooters and how much each guys shot rotates and what that means for where he needs to go for the rebound. It’s not just luck that a guy consistently gets 12-20 boards a game. Love listening to him, the series has been amazing!
THIS was THE BEST analogy of teaching The TRIANGLE Offense I've heard out of ALL The Players from The Bulls or LA including PHIL. And They said it takes YEARS to learn. GREAT JOB BIG WORM !
It's a little bit more complicated on the court, than when observing. There's 3 seconds (in the key), then if you're cutting and there's no play - if you're going to screen, when and where to do it - because if there's an iso behind your back (that you can't see, but have to know) you won't screen to make a jam, maybe fake screen and pull both out of the way... And perhaps another 5 things that can happen. And you're trying not to frustrate the guy with the ball, but need a basket. It's a great game to play. :)
I absolutly love this! Dennis does an amazing job breaking down these plays and his basketball IQ comes shining through. I hope he gets more opportunities like this, I'd love to hear it. I'm surprised to say this, but I want to be the Dennis Rodman of breaking down IT and Cybersecurity topics!
Some younger viewers might not know this, but guarding was used in old ages of NBA as a part of defense. Defense was actually a significant part of the game.

i just realized that in the last clip, phil didnt have pippen or jordan on the court. meaning he left rodman in charge of that unit. it's says a lot about phil's respect for rodman, and Dennis's basketball acument.
We ran it in high school. It took about a month for most people to get it down. It was only about a third of what the Bulls did. There are really a lot of options to it. We had 40 or 50 options plus inbounds plays. It goes against what you want to do naturally. The screens are in weird spots. But if you do it right you always get wide open shots.
@@JamesBrown-hr5qs got to love the keyboard Warriors saying it was simple but never played anything other than pick up a basketball half-court with their friends.
This reminds me of FC Barcelona's tiki taka from the beginning of the decade. I'm a soccer fan first, basketball second, so please don't hate too much 😭 but yea, Simple visual concept: triangulated passing routes, with a lot of ball and player movement, getting the whole tram involved. The trick with these types of strategies is forming plays before executing them. The routes and passes are orchestrated to free up spacer for shots or passes. Understanding it is a bit easier, but learning to make movements, on the ball or off, that ardent simply wasted movements is key.
he does pretty well in interviews when sober... there are a fair few of them around, hes a lot better these days... except his shoe unboxing videos lol
I grew up in Chicago during the Bulls rise. When Dennis joined the team it was like a dream come true. He was my favorite player in the league. Love Ya Rodman!
I saw him play two times and I watched him only during the entire game. Now, listen carefully, I saw him block a shot then throw the outlet and then beat everyone down the court, get the pass from the person he threw the outlet to and slam dunk the basketball. He did that more than once that night. He is the greatest ATHLETE I have ever seen in my life. he never breathed hard the entire night, but beat everyone on offense and defense up and down the court. I didn't say he is the greatest basketball player. I said ATHLETE!. He ran tirelessly up and down the court the entire night. I to this day have not see anyone able to do that. He was a GAME CHANGER! PERIODT! (emphasis with a T).
Rodman was a marathon man with near infinite stamina. People who played with him say after games he would be on the treadmill for up to an hour before leaving to go party.
Nice!! BTW, the Bulls' triangle offense is outlined as one of many strategies in the book "Strategic Advantage: How to Win in War, Business, and Life."
Nick Godwin Dennis isn’t a great mind just from looking at this video. I’m sure he’s a bright guy but this didn’t show that. This was a very average analysis. I mean no disrespect here, but any player who played in the triangle could have done this. We should have higher standards for who can fill this void. Kobe was a legend on the court and in video production.

*D’antoni offense as well Kerr was the GMof those suns teams as well
Warriors didn't learn defense with Mark Jackson. Mark was more of a preacher than a coach. That's the reason he got canned. He doesn't even draw plays for the team on game day.
@@antlou123 you're really buggin....real basketball fans know why he credited mark.....foh
Dennis you are a legend 👍
Rodman is an all time legend. Love listening to him. Bulls were and had Such great players with a simple game plan
Love listening to him, the series has been amazing!
never thought Dennis Rodman would be Kobe's Successor on Detail.. it makes perfect sense
"there goes God doing his thing again" that part was great.
Jesús Alejandro Cruz Tlatelpa when did he say that?

then god misses
Mou Anas he got fouled
Irrespective of it being a joke or a act of respect, blasphemy is not a good thing my buddy 🤷♂️...
1:36 - that bullet pass from Dennis to Michael was a beauty and the result of that was a tomahawk jam from the GOAT himself. ☺️
What's often lost in Rodman's antics was he had a very high basketball IQ
That's amazing analysis!
Well done, Dennis!
Dennis has such a high basketball iq there. Great explanation there.
Rodman wouldn't even have to be at the game and he still knows what's going on. Guy has one of the best nba IQs , puts these kids to shame today
Yo Dennis! You need to stop doing interviews man... This right here is where it's at. This what I wanna see more of from you.
Great job Rod
He could have a giant TH-cam page just off narrations
Phil said Dennis rodman and Pau Gasol were the two fastest learners of the triangle. Rodman is showing his basketball IQ right here
Pythagoras was on a whole another level tho
Great reference..the two of them were new to the triangle in their each respective first year's with Phil....nice bro

You will get it my friend
Very descriptive & well explained Dennis Rodman. I never really visually saw how they ran the triangle at game speed, but now I get it
What made Dennis such a great player is because he was fundamentally sound. Every rebound, every pass, and dribble; it's all fundamentally sound.
Outlet passes and was crisp🔥🔥didn’t even know. I love it
Some younger viewers might not know this, but guarding was used in old ages of NBA as a part of defense. Defense was actually a significant part of the game.
defense is still played in today nba lmao just because it isn’t a bunch of savages smashing into each other every play doesnt mean it’s not significant
Clearly you haven’t been watching the playoffs, this years defense is great
look at these 2 chumps telling you you're wrong...probably werent' even born when Mike was playin with the Wizards...kids, there's hardly any defense in today's NBA it's boring AF, travelling is allowed too...your all stars will become role players in the 90s
Blame the refs not the player, the game is softer and lame because of the refs and their technical fouls
@@vanguardas9927 no they will not sir
Man I miss D Rod being in the league. Cool hearing him break down the triangle.
One of the best explanations of the triangle offense I’ve ever heard. He makes it very easy to understand.
i just realized that in the last clip, phil didnt have pippen or jordan on the court. meaning he left rodman in charge of that unit. it's says a lot about phil's respect for rodman, and Dennis's basketball acument.
Dennis, understood triangle offense, the first day he was in the practice, according to Phil Jackson 👍
Silver Ocean high school freshman teams could learn it in a day. Simple offense really..
God practice makes perfect.
LOVE THIS! MJ is my favoite player ever but I was SOOOO HAPPY wgen we got Rodman!
This is excellent. More from Dennis, please!
That's the best Bulls Team there in my opinion.
Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, Kukoc and Harper.
This was the original death line up.
Harper was a tenacious defender too. He doesn't get enough credit for his defense.
Warriors still better tho
@@BasedSly30 Hahahahahahahahahahaha
@@BasedSly30 omg i Hope you are joking
Dennis is basketball brilliance and a one of a kind soul.
More Dennis Rodman doing Detail, about defense and rebounding.
This is the most sober sounding I’ve ever heard Rodman...
he does pretty well in interviews when sober... there are a fair few of them around, hes a lot better these days... except his shoe unboxing videos lol
Look who's getting the rebound Me, Ofcourse! -DR
This narration alone shows Dennis Rodman's high basketball IQ. Well done, Dennis, well done. ❤️🖤🔥
Wow. Very cool to hear Dennis break down the triangle offense.
I grew up in Chicago during the Bulls rise. When Dennis joined the team it was like a dream come true. He was my favorite player in the league. Love Ya Rodman!
Hey Rodman~ Can you break down what happened to Kim Jung-un?
😂😂😂 My Korean brothaaaa
That’s the breakdown I want.
Comment gold!
He got the coronavirus and drank bleach?
That rotation. High level of basketball IQ right there. Also the cuts without the ball by Steve Kerr.
My respect to number 91 has increased so much after watching this video, he actually very smart NBA player. Wow
ladies and gentlemen this is the reason why mj has 6 rings. to have great teammates is the key
Detail just isn't the same without Kobe.
Won't ever be the same, but if they get some big basketball minds like dennis, giving some true in site, it can at least fill a part of that void.
@@fadya.3660 it was better than when Phil explained it on the last detail lol
@@fadya.3660 lol dude won chips in the triangle too nothing else

Can't hate on Dennis! He was the greatest, quickest at that rebound-outlet pass. Love it!
Dennis is brilliant.. period ...
Never heard Rodman break down basketball like this. Shows how smart he was. That's why he would take rebounds over guys 6 inches taller, he out-thought everyone else. Kind of surprised he never went in to coaching. Very honest about his abilities too, he really was one of the best at rebounding and then moving the ball out fast, but was a poor shooter haha.
After Dennis throws the outlet to mike “There go God, doin his thing again” 😂😂😂
Rodman tactical awareness was underrated. He was one of the smartest players I ever seen. People think otherwise because of his bad boy image
Haha loves how phil said he always wanted to preserve that bad boy image, watching tapes when no one else was there to analyze. What a shy guy
There's so much going on for something that looks so effortless
Just love deniss ,and he is one of the greatest rebounders and defenders of all tine for sure
