Thanks very much for this video. Had the blue screen on my Dell inspiron luckily my wifes Dell xps was near by we put my corrupt hard drive into her computer as you instructed plugging it into the cd rom plugs. When we started her xps it did a scan and found various corrupt files. We re-installed my hard drive and it started up just fine no need to re-install operating system. Thanks again I'm soo happy I didn't lose my pictures and music
@TheTrophygirl Sounds like it might be a heat problem, take your side cover off and see if the cooling fans are clean, You can clean them with a soft paint brush.
Good video BetaFlux. One little thing I have found handy for doing this is a USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE/2.5/3.5 Hard Drive Converter Cable. You can get them from ebay for less than £10 incl P&P. Not that well made, but does the job! Great for getting data from dead laptops as well as other IDE or SATA drives and comes with power supply. A bit slow maybe on USB, but very easy to use.
@cem719 Sounds like the card is not plugged in just right or not pushed down into the slot good enough, push down and wiggle it just a bit at the same time. (While it is off of course) go to nvidia and let it scan for the latest driver for your card also.
My computer Stayed lagging no matter what i tried a registry booster but it still stayed lagging until i formated my computer and the OS is windows 7 it has 4 GB of ram and it is 64-bit with a 64-bit processor and over 400 GB of hard drive space isn't that weired?
@NeeKroVal What are the stop error codes? read the first set of numbers and see if it list a cause or file name at the top of the blue screen. If chkdsk made it worse than the file system was already not repairable.
@adburton76 Sounds like you have an ATA serial hard drive, there is an adapter you can buy, or get ahold of an external hard drive enclosure, you might be able to plug your non working hard drive into that, I have an external hard drive that I use as an adapter. they come apart real easy to be able to swap drives
I have 2 computers. The broken one is the desktop with xp wont boot only says unmountable boot volume and I have a laptop that works. How do I fix the messed up one on the laptop?
It could be a number of things causing your pc to lock up. No idea what it is actually making it do that. it could be software or an over heating problem. what are you doing when it happens?
With the CUT command they are gone, can you access the other drive as a secondary drive and get the files. Or try starting up to your old drive and do a system restore, maybe the files will come back.
Sounds like it might be getting hot on you and shutting down to protect itself. or you might have a bad device, try using event viewer to determine your problem.
Usually a bad or dying hard drive will cause your pc to run really slow and with it not showing up in the computer it is probably dead, best to unplug it. ESD, just make sure the pc is unplugged and you can clear all static from your body by just touching the case (or tower)
what operating system are you running and are you booting to the original hard drive in that computer or are you trying to start the pc using your hard drive? Your hard drive has to be the secondary drive so you can use the good operating system to scan yours.
Plug it into a different cable and it should not matter if they are both master. you can change the pins on the drive near the power plug though. you should see it printed on the drive how to set each pins
It could be caused by a bad memory module, but also it is likely that a system file has been damaged. Can you start in safe mode? what windows version are you running?
@monicaco Is that not an rhetorical question? ;) You can reinstall Windows with an XP Optical Drive (CD/DVD), but remember to save your documents before you reinstall, you can use Linux Live CD's to that. You can also try using repair methods, if you got into some small troubles. Simple just use the XP Optical Drive or Linux Live CD and follow certain instructions. If you dont have an XP Optical Drive, when go to The Pirate Bay for example.
@AlexVidSource If you do it as an "upgrade" you won't, it will create a folder with all your old information. But if you just delete the old partition and install it again, yes.
@TheSpinningthebullet sometimes the blue screen will list a file name at the top or a cause, and also you could google the stop error code at the bottom for more info.
I have a similar problem but with a "twist" My PC shows "stripes vertically on the screen and looks like "Hieroglyphics" in the text in the Post screen. And to top it off it wont boot to windows in my Win 7 pc. I've tried reinstalling Windows, Display drivers, scanning for viruses in Safe mode since thats all I can access at this point. Any suggestions here. it's a XFX 680i LT mobo with a PNY 8800 GTX OC with OCZ 4 gigs of Ram.
@f7sok reap the stop error code near the bottom of the blue screen and see if it also list a cause and or a file name at the top, google that and it will help track down the problem.
That looks like major surgery to me. I would never try that one. Good video though Dave and it is interesting to see what is in that machine. I'm sure you helped tons of people. Lauren:)
what if the working computer that I try to connect the nonworking hard drive to doesn't have the same kind of port? The CD Rom powersource is much different than the old hard drive. Is there an adapter or something I can use?
Is it making any sound codes? (beeps), if F8 doesn't work then most likely your HDD is not being picked up, double check if your HDD is plugged correctly and run a DFT to check if the drive is healthy. some more tips at
That is usually caused by a bad driver for some device most likely your video driver. if you can start in safe mode you would uninstall the driver and reboot
i try'd but wen i put the windows xp disk in it says "setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer." "make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer". and set up cannot continue. and i dont know how to fix that.
In my computer it says to click in somekind of auto repair option and then it starts the repair but the repairing process doesn't end at all. What should i do ?
mine is slow at times, sometimes things won't load at all or connect and I keep getting these "low on virtual memory" pop ups although I have very little on here and no viruses. what's up???
When I turn on my laptop, it has the 5 choices of Safe Mode, Sfe mode with networking, safe mode with command promp, last known good configuration, and start windos normally. if i select any of them, a blue screen comes up. I have a dell mini nine and i just got it HELP
I have a problem with that Hd. I think i have one similar to that one. Mine is a Western Digital caviar SE16 10k rpm. The pc is brand new. Just got it 5 days ago. Last night all worked fine. Hey boss I'm gonna give this a big try and I hope this is it.... Been haveing blue screen of death that keeps looping, wont take back to desktop anymore.... I also have another pc that is working though but have never thought I will see a video with such great idea as yours here..... I'll let u know as soon as I am finished with my process or if I get stuck along the way.....
try DEL or F1 or F2 to get into the bios and see if it list your hard drive, you could re install windows with the repair option and you wont lose your data.
Start up in safe mode and logon in the admin account, then see if it will it let you do a system restore back to before this happen. You would have to go into your registry editor and manually change the security setting that the virus put in, but it is hard to say where ti is, research it on google.
With my dell latitude laptop i have a blue screen of death and i cant start windows in safe mode. My screensaver has showed up a few times but it quickly reverts back to the blue screen. I need some help on what to do please. Is it possible for me to take my hard drive from my laptop and remove the error from a desktop computer?
Everytime i start up my pc i get the BSOD. I tried to use the advance setting option by pressing F8, I then scroll to "Last Known Good Configuration". I wait untill the my windows 7 to load, however i would get the BSOD for a second and then my pc would crash and return to the black windows error screen (BSOD). Please if you have any suggestion on how to fix my problem, please help me.
Make sure you do not have a disk in your cd rom or floppy drive, it may be trying to boot to one of those. go into the bios when you first start it up, by hitting the F8 key over and over, You have to be quick if windows tried to start then you missed it. In the bios you will have to look and see if your drive is detected.
@Robloxian182 Most likely and the fastest way to fix this is to run a REPAIR install of your windows, if you don't have a cd you can legally borrow one.
The bluray driver is empty. In Acer, bios is pressing delete key.The bios find the 3 Hd. 1xWD150gb(the o/s is supossed to be here) 2xWD640gb. I have them on raid, well it comes with that config when i bought it,and i dont want to change the raid thing because Acer will blame the problem on me. I look for the problem that i have and the problem is related to bad connection of the HD.This aspire gaming pc have a thing called Easy swap and i dont think that my problem is cable. Thanks for answering.
You will have to reinstall all of the drivers for your pc to work properly, You will need video, audio, mouse (touchpad), goto the manufacturer site for your pc, look under support and downloads
I BetaFlux I have a question my friend went to a repair shop to install xp on his pc his system had 250gb hard drive went they gave it back the os show that he had 320gb and after a while the hard drive died on him so do you think there is something fishy about it.
Yeah anytime you start messing around with this equipment it can be very dangerous, it is so sensitive to static electricity, But you do learn by trial and error some times.
ok I have a desktop computer that will not start at all- dont have any idea what happened just wont boot up- where do I start? What do u recommend? Thanks & God bless.
Sounds like your sound device is gone bad on you, realtek could also be the network device, you would have to go into the bios and turn the audio and network device off, then it should start, once you get it to start you would want to reinstall the drivers for those devices. then turn them back on. bios would be either DEL, F1 or F2 usually.
unplug all of your usb devices, not the mouse and keyboard but all others. Also try to go into the setup bios and see if it is seeing yrou hard drive, it could really be a number of things.
Try to run a system restore back to before you uninstalled kaspersky. if that does not help then try to reinstall kaspersky, you might have deleted some system protection files that need to be replaced.
i just got a new computer is a dell optiplex gx620 its 1t and 2gb of ram, my other comp has 1Gb of ram and 500gb its an emachine will this work for my emachine? i turn it out it comes up to a blue screen says somethins wrong with the harddrive and restarts and keeps doing that
man i have a problem with my old hard disk...when i start the computer...the hard disk doesn't start:|...i mean i open it ...and i make a run test...and it's doesn't spin....can you tell me what i must do.....becouse i have some inportant files there....
The problem with my computer is that I get a little '!' on 'AvFw packet filter miniport #3' and when I try to update it says 'Does not have necessary software'. When I try to uninstall it tells me 'Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be needed to boot up the computer.' Please help I really don't want to have to pay to get it fixed.
my computer recently caught a virus, i started it up and its constantly going through a boot cycle. it keeps restarting itself when i get to the windows loading screen, i tried of starting in safe mode and it still keeps restarting at the boot menu, it has windows xp.
Excuse me, I watch this video and my computer when i put the windows disk to install XP and it goes a blue screen and says the hard drive is corrupted. should i do what you showed in the video and i think my working computer has a ide hard drive but my broken one has a serial hard drive.. will it recognize my ide hard drive as the master one? thank for the great video!
I have a blue screen error and I couldn't fix it, I couldn't access to f8, I have other computers but the hard drives are not the same, the one i have is xp Compaq HP, and it won't work with xp balance, and xp dell, any advice? and thanks for this video it's great.
Man I love that computer case. I always wanted one like that. Hay could you make my computer look like one of those or make a video on how if i buy a case?
That Happened to me. It was not booting , so i formated it and the disk was not like before (separated parts) , i think that was reseted. Maybe it was windows itself or some malware? If was a malware , please , tell how to avoid the worm and however remove it. Thank you for your patience to read it.
So they cant repair it on every pc repair store. The pc is awesome and is shiny, i have to send it to a very near town from here where Acer repair center is. The pc could be damaged or something. So is there another way to me to fix it? I already have a retail dvd of vista, but 32 bits one. I dont want to spend now 500-600€ in buying a vista 64 bits. I need a 64 bits o/s because my
the working pc is trying to boot to the drive you put in, you have to go into the bios and tell it to boot to the original drive. F1 F2 or Del should take you into the bios.
I lost everything on my hard drive when I reloaded the the disks HP sent me. I could not believe it didn't evan include some of the programs that came with my computer- it was barely 1 1/2 years old. At least I had lots of important things on my external drive that were all saved. Should have made backup CD'S and I would not have had this problem. Everyone should make recovery disks when they get their PC. That will never happen to me again. Hard lesson to learn. Lauren:)
It would take me a long time to explain everything step by step, just put the working hard drive into your pc and install windows, search youtube for install windows. do you have a copy of windows cd?
Hey there, if your laptop will not start you could try my video on (Recovery Console) there is however an adapter for a laptop hard drive so you can plug it into a desktop model pc.
thks alot it worked. but i did replace my hard disc by the hard disc in a external hard disc so it made easyer to plug my hard disc by using USB and some how the other pc did detect the error from my hard disc automaticly and did restart and started some kind of scan to repair the errors and it worked it got fixed and so i managed to fix my pc without losing any data.
What about bsod 0x-7B Inaccessible_ Boot_ Device? I don't care about the machine, or getting it running- I picked up a virus, will I be able to save files from this infected hard drive?
i have a problem here it is : When i watch a movie In youtube i cant hear but when i right click and press settings then i can hear but i want to hear direclty and not to do that way -.- so help me ?

A little more info may help, like does it turn on at all? what happens if it does?
@stanky02 Yes, You would just need to have an adapter to take the one drive from IDE or SATA to a USB connection.
then do I just hook up it as usb to the laptop? and what about the power how would I plug it in?
I have 2 computers. The broken one is the desktop with xp wont boot only says unmountable boot volume and I have a laptop that works. How do I fix the messed up one on the laptop?

@Nevermore2007 Sorry to answer so late, but, your usb may need to be updated from windows update site or your printer may have a bad cable.
Hold down the F12 key when you first turn it on and it should give you a choice to repair start up
In my computer it says to click in somekind of auto repair option and then it starts the repair but the repairing process doesn't end at all. What should i do ?
Yes the hard drive enclosure has the same type of adapter built in.
Trying to retrieve contact info from old HD in Outlook. Shows the same info as new HD. Any answers?
Did that work? There may have been a simpler process for you to follow for your particular issue.
@wadaputar Most likely you will have to re install your operating system. registry files are corrupt.

I have a problem with that Hd. I think i have one similar to that one. Mine is a Western Digital caviar SE16 10k rpm. The pc is brand new. Just got it 5 days ago. Last night all worked fine. I also have another pc that is working though but have never thought I will see a video with such great idea as yours here..... I'll let u know as soon as I am finished with my process or if I get stuck along the way.....
You could run a REPAIR install of windows, or place your hard drive into a working pc as a secondary drive and run a scan on it.
When i select any boot-up option it just restarts but when i do system restore i get a bsod.(less white text than normal on that BSoD)
You can pull a drive out of a laptop, if it is sata drive its easy but if its IDE then you would need an adaptor
If your laptop hard drive is a serial drive with the small cable then it would make it easy to plug it into a desktop pc, and run a scan
try DEL or F1 or F2 to get into the bios and see if it list your hard drive, you could re install windows with the repair option and you wont lose your data.

yes you can take your hard drive and put it in a desktop, if it is sata drive you can hook it right up, if it is ide then you will need an adapter.
With my dell latitude laptop i have a blue screen of death and i cant start windows in safe mode. My screensaver has showed up a few times but it quickly reverts back to the blue screen. You would have to find out which type of l=plug you have on your hard drive and get a converter to plug it into a desktop.
BF, i have no idea how to do what you did just there. Do you know anyone in NYC that you trust who could help me please. Thanks!
creating a new user account should fix the problem of the missing stuff.
but you should start up in safe mode and go into the admin account to do it.

Good tip, I have been meaning to make a video for (Active Boot Disk) it does make things easier.
i have a vista computer (working) and a xp (non-working) could i use the vista to fix the xp??????
unplug all of your usb devices, not the mouse and keyboard but all others.

That usually means that the hard drive is bad, but sometimes you can reinstall windows and make it work.
Try to run a system restore back to before you uninstalled kaspersky.
if that does not help then try to reinstall kaspersky, you might have deleted some system protection files that need to be replaced.

you can either do a repair install which does not erase your files or a clean install which formats the drive. So you have the choice.
@BetaFlux what about burning an ISO to a disk then keeping it just incase?
i have a problem when i plug in my old hard drive to my other pc it doesnt recognize it? do u have a suggestion or idea what the problem could be

This is a good video though, helps people who normally don't have a clue about such things.
At least I had lots of important things on my external drive
that were all saved. Should have made backup CD'S and I would not have had this problem. Everyone should make recovery disks when they get their PC. That will never happen to me again. Hard lesson to learn.
Lauren:)
It would take me a long time to explain everything step by step, just put the working hard drive into your pc and install windows, search youtube for install windows. do you have a copy of windows cd?
at the safe mode screen you should see an option to turn off the auto restart, then the blue screen will stay on so you can read the stop error code.
its a very good vid thanks...does the good pc get affected by connecting the bad hard drive ?
ive got a computer that doesnt start up either, ive tried putting a Seperate GPU in but it still wont work, any ideas?
The usb adapter will supply the power through the usb cable.
is there any way to get the data back once a blue screen has come up?
