    Very informative, thanks so much Emily. I'm glad you mentioned how much to tip because nobody else seems to mention it but it's important to know. Thanks so much!

      It seems like no one talks about it so it’s hard to know for sure how to do it- especially the first time! Thanks for watching and commenting💓

    I was super glad I came across your video! I'm doing the trek in a few weeks and am so excited! What daypack did you use?? It looks awesome!

    • @EmilyFlynn
      @EmilyFlynn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ahhh I’m so freaking excited for you!!! You’re going to have the best time. I’m obsessed with my osprey tempest 20 because it has a clip for climbing helmets too, but it’s kind of expensive so I’m sure any of their 20L packs would be great for this :) anyway hope you have the best time!!

    • @madisonnewman771
      @madisonnewman771 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EmilyFlynn thank you so much! I'm sooo excited to do it as it's been on my bucket list for years! Do you think the tempest would hold a Nikon D5600 camera as well as everything else?

    • @EmilyFlynn
      @EmilyFlynn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@madisonnewman771 I had plenty of room for snacks, layers, and a few extra things so I think you could probably make it work. It is likely to rain some so keep that in mind and maybe look into day packs with waterproof sections for cameras? Either way I would just do a test run - pack the bag up and take it on a day hike and see how it feels first :)

    How was the flight from Lima to Cusco? Great informative video btw.

    • @EmilyFlynn
      @EmilyFlynn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was quick and easy! The Lima airport is a bit confusing (but not very big) if you don’t speak Spanish, but definitely manageable. Short flight and the Cusco airport (very tiny) is flooded with taxi drivers out front. I was glad I stopped at Lima, though, to get cash + a SIM card there before flying to Cusco. And thanks :)

    Hoping for a trip in the next year or two. The tough part will be deciding on a hike like this orrrr an ayahuasca retreat. Both in one trip might be a little much :p You can be my guide, let gooo. :) One question about phones. Do I need an international one or a new plan. When I went to Rome my carrier did not get a signal. Thank goodness for the google maps working offline hack. Thanks!

      I purchased a local SIM card at the airport when I landed so that I could have service! Just make sure not to lose your original SIM card.

    Emily thanks for your video. We are doing the Salkantay trail in a couple of weeks. Any recommendations about bug spray? I assume we will need sun block? Are showers available? txs. j

    • @EmilyFlynn
      @EmilyFlynn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didnt carry bug spray and amazingly didnt have any issues, but I know that bug bites are common on trail so not a bad idea to bring! Sun block is a definitely yes because the sun is so strong at high altitude. I would also recommend SPF chapstick because my lips are always getting burnt when im hiking at altitude! The first three nights showers were available for a fee (I think cold water only, but I was way too tired and cold at night to do that!) and the fourth night you’re in a hotel room with an ensuite bathroom to get fresh before the Machu Picchu tour!
