naindra84 i am agreed with you. the jubilee hall is the soul of the hotel. not the grandfather clock or old plug. if they want do reno, they really should learn from Majestic KL.
100 steps forward, and 1,000 steps backward. The place looks gaudy and tacky. They made a big mistake, costing many, many millions of dollars. Who masterminded this aesthetic disaster?
I totally agree. the old raffles is so elegant and beautiful, the kind of beauty that is timeless. the new raffles is trendy, but i suspect its elegance could be timeless
Raffles Hotel now has a cold elegance about her. Gone are the warm notes. The jubilee hall that once housed performances has now become a money spinning grand ball. Singapore 's Grand Old Dame has truly become a playground for the rich. The divide widens.
They should've stayed with the original colour schemes and design details! There was a need to refurbish but it shouldn't become generic! Perhaps the only places that felt more of the 'then' are the Writer's Bar and Tiffin Room.. Hopefully the next time they decide to refurbish, they'll bring out more of the 'then' vibes!
A Ming dynasty China costs 1 billion because of its history . The same kind of China you make now costs 20 bucks The only thg money can't buy is history...The old dining hall , Tiffin room are much much better than the new ones. The person in charge of the renovation shall be fired.
Heart breaking to see the old chandeliers in the dinning room LA DAME DE PIC replaced by cheap looking modern light. It now looks like dinning in a 2nd or 3rd class hotel. Jubilee Hall is gone but the new banquet hall’s chandeliers should sparkle in gold. More gold in that Suite with black furniture. Do not spare the gold on black. The chandelier in the main entrance should be gold, bigger and dangle down more. Less silver. They should not have removed the antique furniture and old art pieces. 😅
Well they’ve managed to rip the character from this wonderful old hotel. That took some doing. It’s now as generic as most others and certainly not worth the extra money it costs to stay there. Awful.
So sorry to see the very classy " then" turn into the standard, generic "now." A place that once had real soul and character has been turned into just another glitzy modern hotel. Sad to see.
Wow the grand dame is back and looks as good as any hotel in the world which is lovely as the hotel still retains the charm of the bygone colonial era of British Malaya and is the perfect fusion of contemporary technology and traditional architecture and design. 🥂 to a another several centuries and hopefully this fine institution will be graced by the next generation of the royal family as well as Prince Charles when he becomes king hopefully for not a long time as the Queen is a symbol of continuity and tradition. I also hope that this hotel gives the push to the government and council to look at helping to bring life to other buildings of the colonial period.
You think I stupid try to change TH-cam. This president house and I know my ISTANA in Singapore this actually my istana when I became king of Singapore and prime minister of Singapore give me to living inside this palace that time i didn't want to living in this because on that time if somebody try to take advantage and they will know my punishment because my future king ISTANA in Singapore complete with magnetic auto turret all USA do. I am king of Singapore.(world veto)
I've never been to raffles hotel but when I look at the now and then photo... I kinda like then photos more than now 😅
The hotel has lost its soul. It's heartbreaking to see the Jubilee Hall turned into a cold generic ballroom like that. Big mistake.

Urban VIII heard it is a designer from dubai. Totally no understanding of sg culture
Comparing then and now I prefer the "then". There's a certain vibe to it that makes it unique and one of a kind in Singapore. My two cents
I totally agree. the old raffles is so elegant and beautiful, the kind of beauty that is timeless. the new raffles is trendy, but i suspect its elegance could be timeless
Big mistake to convert the jubilee hall. All the before photos are much better than the after.
Lies again? Gangbang Of Raffles Mature Captain

Fully agree with you. I can truly say, I do NOT like it anymore..... Sad
its not Raffles Hotel anymore. Losing the theatre is a tremendous loss. We dont need another ballroom.
That ballroom looks like something you can find in a 4-star convention hotel
What a beautifull man who says “welcome to Singapore”
He give this amazing hotel an even more special feeling
The hotel cards of famous dead guests that used to stay there is a creepy touch

From the look of it, i prefer then.
I am so sad. I loved the classic mood interior decorations before this renovation. New furnishings look like a modern cheap hotel.
Somehow the hotel lost its class. The interior design is so "Typically" trendy. I, very much, prefer the old colonial style.
Love the old hotel, now it’s too generic.
Very beautiful ! I literally melt of this beauty !
Thank You dear CNA for Your delightful and helpful video !
So sad, I like the Jubilee Hall before renovation. It looks cool and make you feel inside old movies
What a tragic transformation. That tacky chandelier lolzzz I cannot

Sure had fun there in 1972. Times change, tastes change but I have the memories.

The spacious courtyard is gone. They fenced up the area with shrubs hedges for the privacy of the customers. People watching activity is gone
Amazing!!! A visiting card of Singapore, definitely!!!

What about the classic Long Bar? No more live music? Sad. Lost its charm entirely.
think i like every other change besides the jubilee hall
What have u done... 😔
Quite similar interior to manila hotel in the Philippines..
manila's is bigger
Ive stayed at Raffles - and yes it needed a tidy up - but this was a travesty
such a beautiful Hotel
Never been but much prefer the then decor from the photos. It was chic. Not that impressed with the modern concept. It’s lost it’s uniqueness
..the best there is..!!!
Seriously i dont find this like a hotel the kind i would stay, strangely i feel one of a haunted movie feel..haha.
I know Singapore hotel are so expensive and the price is liget crazy🤦♂️
Same...dunno why but it gives that type of feel.
So sorry to see the very classy " then" turn into the standard, generic "now." A place that once had real soul and character has been turned into just another glitzy modern hotel. Sad to see.
The ruination of Raffles, how sad!
So beautiful,well done
As life moves forward.New beginnings
Awesome..my next trip will visit
Very beautiful but gives a haunted hotel vibe.
Welcome back Madame
Banal
From a storied gem redolent of balmy bygone days, to a cookie-cutter anywhere-in-the-world let’s look at your loyalty tier hotel

It has lost its glory... so sad to see the grand dame turns into a tacky boutique hotel.
Looks traditional
Get a new host that don’t talk
Not as highly ranked as others in this class. Apparently, there are issues that need to be worked on.
Look so beautiful
Yuck.
Congrats, you flippin' ruined it!
👌
Lost the uniqueness.
Posh.
