I could listen to Siciliano over and over again without getting sick of it. We're playing this in band class right now, and every time I hear this part it lifts my mood completely. It's so lovely.
Playing first horn on Siciliano was so terrifying because of the fact that it’s just first and third horn at the beginning and D is a lot harder to start cleanly than Bb 😂
we played this my freshman year. I'm graduating this year, going back and listening to music I've played... it's soooo sad. Enjoy it while you can because it speeds by really fast!!
I'm doing the exact same thing! I'm graduating this spring also and I'm compiling a playlist of all the music my university band has played while I've been a part of it. :(
I’m graduating a week and a day from now. Last day is this Thursday and this is my senior song (our band director let’s us all choose a song to read with the class from the past four years). Idek if you’re still active on this account 7 years ago wow but yeah
I loved these songs so much because they were instrumentally even. As a euphonium, I didn't usually see much melody, but this piece really delivered for the low brass.
I don't think I ever appreciated my high school symphonic band conductor enough for picking pieces such as this which feature euphonium, I was really spoiled and had no clue until I became an adult.
Played percussion senior year, had the solo at 5:42, everyone would cheer me after that part every time during practice, bunch of weirdos, good times good times :'(
I have a long relationship with this piece.. Last year, in middle school, we sight-read it and everyone loved it for weeks, then it came up again and I got to play a different part in Orange County's (nope, Florida) All-County band, and now I get to practice another part for my school's spring concert coming up soon. Really, I love it.
Played principal trumpet on this for the first time summer of 9th grade at the University of Pacific Summer Camp, Tim Smith directing. I have since taught it to my students 4 times of the course of my career. Best Band Piece ever!
@@Liondude101 Oh wow, I totally forgot I commented on this video 😂 Adult life isn't so bad; I just moved into my first apartment, and I'm actually trying to play my trombone again after...five years now, I think. How's life going for you?
I just came across this piece in a tiktok of all things, I'd totally forgotten I'd played it but recognized it instantly! The rondo section was so much fun for the alto saxes
This song brings back so many memories... Sophomore year in the Utah State Honor Band. This and Resting in the Peace of His Hands were my two favorite pieces. I'll never forget those days.
Sight read this in Wind ensemble today (6th,7th and 8th grade) Our BD wanted to figured out if she liked it and she did so we should be getting this in November again
The semiquavers on alto sax A to G# just before the presto almost killed my fingers at Rondo. I knew we should've just stuck with Siciliano, it was good.
Everyone is saying siciliano but tbh I like it when my band plays rondo, in the state of texas we have a reputation for being aggressive with our sound so rondo fits us better, only really the first chairs have a decent melodic sound, but we’re getting there

What if it was your alarm for you to wake up? Then, you might start hating or at least kinda disliking the music after a week.
It's very repetitive
The siciliano movement is some of the best band music I've ever heard

Brittany Losh yeah, lol I made a playlist of all my pieces. This is so sad. :(
me too...back in 88-89 :)
I'm graduating from Highschool in 2023. Yes, I agree with you when you say that it's so sad, this song is making me feel like crying.

playing this for our region honor band siciliano is probably the most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard
Yes I love it so much
Look up Oh Magnum Mysterium
Can’t agree more
I played it for region honor band this past weekend. It was very fun
I loved these songs so much because they were instrumentally even. As a euphonium, I didn't usually see much melody, but this piece really delivered for the low brass.
i’m a euphonium player too and this song meant the world to me to have such a featured part
I don't think I ever appreciated my high school symphonic band conductor enough for picking pieces such as this which feature euphonium, I was really spoiled and had no clue until I became an adult.
FOR REAL
I’m a euphonium too, I was so excited when I saw my parts
I swear I felt like I was swimming and flying at the same time while playing siciliano...one ofthe most beautiful songs
Played percussion senior year, had the solo at 5:42, everyone would cheer me after that part every time during practice, bunch of weirdos, good times good times :'(
Played 1st horn for this my senior year. Was cut short by the pandemic, but I’m glad that this was the last piece I ever played. I miss band so much
Awww man those amazing percussion parts just flow it together
I loved playing this song! I was on trumpet! It was so much fun to play
prelude: 0:00
siciliano: 1:59
rondo: 4:55
Very helpful.
Hi Xinyan! 👋
👍
I played this song last year in band. Such a wonderful piece.
I love hearing the 1st tuba go for those Gb runs in the rondo.

Im doing that this year in Florida, I love it
This is nostalgia for me. One of the first songs i ever played in high school.
Played principal trumpet on this for the first time summer of 9th grade at the University of Pacific Summer Camp, Tim Smith directing. I have since taught it to my students 4 times of the course of my career. Best Band Piece ever!
Loved this when we played it in high school. More than 40 years later, I still hum it, especially the beautifully lyrical Siciliano.
i could listen to Rondo all day long....its so amazing
I bloody love the Rondo
My high school wind ensemble played this my junior year. Siciliano was by far my favorite movement. (Also, go 1st trombones!)
i wish we had the trumpet solo at least once in siciliano though haha
Hows adult life?
Second trombone here. I’m a junior in wind ensemble lmao. Having a blast with it so far!
@@Liondude101 Oh wow, I totally forgot I commented on this video 😂 Adult life isn't so bad; I just moved into my first apartment, and I'm actually trying to play my trombone again after...five years now, I think. How's life going for you?
COVID took all my solos lol
I'm playing this on 1st Alto in my band... No one can say that that solo at the end isn't beautiful
We played this my 7th grade year and I’m just amazed how far I’ve come listening to my old saxophone solo on this was amazing
so well written, as well as well played. It's a beautiful recording.
I just came across this piece in a tiktok of all things, I'd totally forgotten I'd played it but recognized it instantly! The rondo section was so much fun for the alto saxes
This makes me miss band so much; first, last and only solo I ever really played in my 8 years was in Siciliano XD
My school's Wind Ensemble played this piece last year. Very fun and very beautiful
My high school band is playing this song this year, I play lead oboe. It's really fun :)
Gotta love when a mid skill level piece of music has a professional level percussion part that professionals literally study. Fun times
This is a grade 5?
@@nathansquires444 it's a grade 4
@@superior_nobody07 that’s not what my band director said my senior year lol. It’s also listed as a grade 5 on sites like jw pepper and stuff
@@nathansquires444 depends on where you're from. I know in California snd texas its a grade 4. Might be a 5 or even a 6 in some other states

I love Siciliano and Rondo ! Amazing. I play the clarinet so fun so fun
And trumpet!
Gahh, played this in my seventh grade year. Played it at the Meyerson in Dallas; so much nostalgia. GO FRENCH HORNS
This song brings back so many memories... Sophomore year in the Utah State Honor Band. This and Resting in the Peace of His Hands were my two favorite pieces. I'll never forget those days.
We played this for competition in high school band. This brings back so many memories. I wish I could go back.
This is the exact same recording I have (it is distinguished by the cough at 3:43), but the CD info says it was a recording of BYU's wind ensemble.
What if the cough is it's own instrument
It would be funny to me.
We played this my senior year of high school in All County band and now I’m playing it in my Concert ensemble in college😁
I'm playing this piece with my school's Wind Ensemble. On harp.
Should be fun!
How did it go?
I was excited about getting getting first bassoon for this song then I remembered I play the bassoon.
Relatable 😂 going through the exact same thing lol
the best one ive heard on here
siciliano is where my heart's at
Played Timpani for this in Wind Ensemble, Rondo is so fun and Siciliano is beautiful!
Go Percussion!
Played this for Ventura County Honor Band this year. Was good, i liked.
I love this. My band camp band did this, too. In my opinion, I'm not used to Siciliano going that fast. But everything else is fantastic.
i love this song :D we played it for our high school concert
I just got a cornet 1 part for this today in wind ensemble. I’m so excited, this piece is beautiful.
If y’all haven’t already, offer to play it slower, it’s so purty, my band plays it at 44
Me and my classmates in band played this song a year after we played A Sacred Suite.

Rondo is my favorite
this is by far the hardest song I've ever had to play. especially because the harp part is sooo darn hard to play on the marimba.
I find that vibraphone with medium-soft mallets fits better for replacement of the harp.
Uhhh, thanks for the tip? I don’t really need it anymore lol.
This legend responded 5 years after the original comment
Playing the contrabasse clarinet is so much fun in this piece!
This sounds so familiar. i think my band might have sight-read it for competition one year
4:55 Rondo
Finally, finally.
Sicialiano...One of the most beautiful peices ever.
Tkmea honor band is playing this. Im excited it sounds great!!!
The semiquavers on alto sax A to G# just before the presto almost killed my fingers at Rondo. I knew we should've just stuck with Siciliano, it was good.
GamingMeerkat we are doing all 3 movements at my school
I conducted this toward ago but woke with the Siciliano in my head this morning. Stuck!
What band/orchesrra does it becomes at 6:50? Lol. Great piece, and a fantastic performance.
The beginning of the Siciliano sounds just like Agony from Into the Woods
loveeeeeeeeeee the harp in siciliano
@vampiresrock3000 siciliano is just so beautiful
I played this on 2nd Oboe, and covered 1st Oboe when I was the only one there.
I did the same exact thing in my community band!!!!!
I'm the only oboe :'(
last year on french horn, best band song ever:)
We are playing this at my school. I am the principle trumpet player, and I'm half Sicilian.
That said, the second movement just makes my heart melt.

Butler University All Star High School Band 2011......ah the memories!
2009 Elk City band, this was so fun to play.
teehee.... cant wait to play this during honor band this year....
If you think these rips are cool try playing his Tam O' Shanter. First horn parts are so sexy.

Wa wa waaa, wa wa waaa. Pet peeve of mine, sorry. Great job though.
My band is doing this song right now, along with October by Eric Whitacre.

Siciliano sounds so much better at a slightly slower speed, listening at x.75 feels so right, respect to all players here too!
French Horns ROCK :DD

Trombone Reppin'
Any recommendations for pieces similar to Siciliano?
Hmmadison96 The beginning sorta reminds me of Agony from Into The Woods 🤷🏻♂️
Really late reply but a similar piece for wind ensembles would be The Merry Widow Selections
i play this song! well these songs, im on bass clarinet :)
I played this bass clarinet 7th grade :D
@alanslife1 Yes, yes! Siciliano just moves the soul.
Played this sophomore year on Baritone. I'm a senior now and we spam it lol
I'm playing this for our lgpe
@alanslife1 cause its from japan, they don't mess around when it comes to the arts.
Me too but we played rondo really fast and i didnt have time to switch from xylo to bells

I have a REAL hard time believing this is TKO. If this were my band I would be proud. But TKO? Really? Major errors.
7th grade memories ahhh
No way this is Tokyo Kosei... So many errors... timing/pitch issues...
Where?
I’m a freshman and I have to play this, take in mind that I’m playing first cornet and I’m not even in the top band
Heyy rondooh rondo siciliano
BERGEN COUNTIES!!!!
Did anyone else here the clarinet squeak between 1:14 and 1:16?

You remember what Markiewicz said about posting stuff online?

The cough is cued in the score! It was composed when Malcolm Arnold was suffering from a bad cold.
Yes, I'm just kidding. :)
what is the tempo of siciliano in this recording
