Rick, very nice composition overall. But what you did with the roof and the deteriorating end of the barn and creating one big shape with the trees was “excellent!” Your choice/use of warm and cool colors is really adds to this piece. I am adding it to my list of things I want to do myself. Thanks
Hi Rick it’s Julie! You have singlehandedly made quarantine not only tolerable but a season to pour into my painting with my favorite watercolor teacher! Thank you so much! Blessings to you and yours 🎨
Thanks again Rick, your patient instructions have taught me a lot and I think I've improved. Your reminders of the elements of a good painting are invaluable -I should actually make a note of them. I must remember about large shapes. I rather like the blues you used for the background and the strong red on the roof. I noticed all the different ways you used your scraper this time, in particular the horizontal sweeps on the foreground. I use a scraper quite a lot, using an old credit card as your multi -edged scraper is hard to find, even at Cheap Joe's.
This is absolutely gorgeous! I love your interpretation of this photo and the title. Thanks for the input on color temperature and how we should use both warm and cool colors in the shadows, reminding us to use color variations. I love the rusty patina on the roof and the tree and it's heavy shadow upon the barn.
Going to try to paint this one today. Wish me luck. Thanks for the inspiration. It's a beautiful painting with great composition. I like the colors used, and the white spots intentionally left, as I feel that this does give a cleaner, brighter feel to paintings. I've noticed that other accomplished artists do this, as well. Thank you!
Hi Rick sorry to bring up the issue of the lighting again but I think that being as methodical as you are you might want to know about this issue and perhaps solve it. Your lighting has changed and it is now slightly dimmer and warmer, I am not sure if one of your studio lights is perhaps going or if you have adjusted any distance or angle. I went back through some of your recent videos to try to find when this change occurred and I think that it did after filming A Nice Place To Be, in that video everything was OK but in the next video you can see the change in color and intensity. I hope my comment does not upset you, I am just trying to let you know how we see your videos through our devices. Stay safe and thank you for your great content!
Thanks for the feedback. I've made some adjustments that will make a difference, however, I have a few videos in queue that won't have the improved lighting.
Hi, I just went to look at your materials list and found that your round Princeton Neptune demo link links to the silver black velvet. I'd love to hear about what is different in these two that you like.
Hi Christiane. The biggest difference is that the silver black velvet is a combination of synthetic and natural material (more expensive) and the Neptune is all synthetic (less expensive). I feel both perform well.
Thanks Rick ! you explain your intentions so well !!
Beautiful.

Thanks for the comments Barbara! On Cheap Joes they call it a paint pusher, however, it looks like they don't carry them anymore.
That’s a great experience in watching you brining it all together.
Appreciate the details
Thank you Maureen!
