Why even mention we might not like how it looks? It's a breath of fresh air. I'm sick and tired of everyone having their own strat and tele. For fuck's sake...
Agreed. I'm f-in getting one. Definitely the burst. Annie Clark is badass. I don't listen to her but she's an amazing artist. Wouldn't matter to me who made this. It's awesome.
I think it looks fantastic, especially the red and blue variants. I love that they're going for a very non-standard body shape. If I was looking to drop $2k on a guitar this would be in the conversation.
Yeah, the blue StVincent and the pink Albert Lee are both on my wish list. I don't get all the hate for the shapes, the world would be boring if we only had Strats and Les Pauls. I have a Les Paul sat next to me right now and although I would like to get a better one someday, I don't ever see myself needing two or more, I would rather have four or five completely different guitars (or six or seven....)
I got a St. Vincent in blue when they first came out. It’s a killer! Five great sounds, very well made & put together. Neck feels lovely. I personally think it looks cool too. :) The knobs and pickguard are intended, I think, to give the guitar some 1950s kitschy Bakelite vibe. Annie Clark (St. Vincent) played an old Harmony model for awhile, and 2nd/3rd-tier guitars like that typically use cheap plastic knobs.
People aren't all that familiar with mini hums because they aren't used that often, but I've always liked them. They have an accented "gnarl" as compared to normal humbuckers. A slightly smaller pickup field brings it back towards almost a P90 tone. Really though, it's it's own thing...again much like a p90. I like the entire design of the guitar, and all respect to St.Vincent and Music Man for bringing the first truly unique guitar to be released in a long time to market. I think that in one form or another this guitar will last quite a while. It's a keeper. Thanks for the great video!
This guitar is gorgeous an sounds great too! This and the Armada are my favorite designs in the Music Man lineup I was never much of a "traditionalist".
It looks great on Annie! The raised plastic on the back is like a Strat and they came with one ply pick guards originally too. The guitar does have some Strat sensibilities and also looks like a cross between a Gibson Firebird and Explorer. Annie is geared more towards the stranger sounds vs. shredding so hence the limited fret access near the higher frets. I've yet to see one in a music store though.
+ Dan Luna - Really!?! That's very interesting to me from a genetics standpoint, since not everyone can move their fingers like Tuck or Annie, no matter how much they practice.
I'm not normally a fan of gold hardware either, but something about that combination of shape, hardware, burst and pickguard all REALLY work well together!
Great sonic walk-through, thanks! Henning nails it - the reviews do not do enough justice to the guitar. When the details are considered, as well as its full spectrum, as well as the cleans, this is a fantastic sounding axe! On the other hand, we have to give kudos to EB for keeping the promo videos in line with St. Vincent's stylistics - a nice touch, for sure. Overall, this instrument requires us to make some effort into researching it; what one can find after scratching a bit of surface, so to speak, is quite astonishing. I am eyeing on this axe.
Great review. BTW, the cost of recessing the rear covers is not due to the routing, it's due to the difficulty in finishing the edges perfectly without wood tearout or buffing through the finish on the edges. Here, the edges of the hole are covered so imperfections caused by sanding and buffing are irrelevant, and the process can be done much more quickly/efficiently.
I think this guitar looks bitchin' awesome, and I really like how all the details and angles work together. I'm bored to tears by me-too designs and I hope somebody emulates (== blatantly steals) this guitar shape at an accessible price point.
Your timing is perfect Henning!!! I was thinking and looking this morning for this type of review for this guitar! Thank you! Also, I too am not a fan of Gold hardware at all, but with this guitar, and this finish, it is beautiful!! Maybe the only example of gold hardware I've actually liked.
I think the shape of the guitar is awesome by the way. They have certainly managed to make a unique looking guitar that could still very much be a classic, which is insanely hard. It is certainly in Firebird territory, but much more elegant.
I love the St Vincent Model. So many guitars are all the same, but it's different. The one thing is that I'm a big guy at 6'5" (196 cm) and I think the body would be a bit small. I've also heard that it's a bit neck heavy. So honestly if they made a model with a larger body it would be something I REALLY want. That or a purple HH Albert Lee. A bigger body on the St. Vincent with a purple burst, oh lordie.
Best review. I like the look (got the black one with the white guard, it looks like Klaus Nomi). Fully agree though that it’s shockingly versatile. Only thing I don’t like is the headstock.
I thought it was ridiculous when I first seen it, then I saw it in all black. I liked it... So when I saw the blue again I actually thought that's a bloody nice guitar. I think it looks better in the non-vintagey colours like blue, but I do like that one. Gorgeous neck.
Hi Henning... Hope you and the family are doing well... I have Found My guitar... I'm so saving for it... St Vincent. Do you think it's better than Paolette Guitars ? Troy from Alantic City 🌆
I’ve always loved that design. And btw the tuners work because of the headstock design. No tilt back, strings that go straight after going through the nut.
Hi Henning, you said most of the new Schaller tuners suck. I've always liked them, but all the ones I have are on older guitars. Can you tell me who DOES make a really good tuner right now?
Gazzy Burns Absolutely. I owned an EBMM Axis Sport several years ago, and it was the best built, best sounding, best playing electric guitar in my stable. I ended up selling it, like an idiot! :(
I think these pickups really bring out the character of my fuzzes. It's definitely interesting. I had to settle for the Sterling version. I think I will eventually put actual Dimarzios in it, though.
I neither love or hate the shape, it's not great but it's ok. And I don't even mind gold hardware that much ...if you can't stand the look anymore I'd offer to take it!
Man! Or "Mann!" (auf Deutsch) ;-) At the end or just before the very end of the video, I clicked on Leave a comment and started to write something and as I was typing, I heard your voice say exactly what I was typing!!! Well, not exactly but almost. :-) Yeah, I wanted to thank you for not doing like all the other people: plug a fuzz pedal and do the whole review of that guitar playing it with a fuzz pedal! This guitar is very versatile, it's a shame to reduce it to fuzz tones only!!!! Like I said, I was just about to write what you said but you said it so much better than I could ever have done! You even mentioned Tim and his 20 bucks guitar for his fuzz tone...Perfect! You made a very well made review video, wie immer und, and you played sehr gut! Again, mein Freund, vielen Dank für making this Video and sharing it with the World! Vielen Dank!!!
It's nice to see someone play this and all the comments aren't shitty trollss The guitar is a really cool take on some sort of FB/explorer shape. The headstock is a little out of place.
F.D. English - I absolutely agree with you. Such a radical shape guitar, and they stick that tired old headstock on it! Totally out of style with the body. What’s more annoying is the fact that the body shape would easily make a good headstock shape that could take the 4-2 configuration. (I even photoshopped it to try it, but cannot post it here!)
The spring cover plate on the back of a Stratocaster is not recessed either. If it was, the vibrato block would hit it. The St Vincent body is 1/8" thinner than the Strat. Take the covers off and check how close the springs, vibrato block and electronics are to the covers.
The Sterling St Vincent has a maple neck, and is $599. I'd love to meet one in a pawn shop someday. To inset the back covers on a CNC machine would take more like 15 - 20 seconds rather than 2 minutes. If I complained about anything it would be the headstock but I'd probably get used to it. Even though I don't play anymore I have a guitar crush the blue one with a maple neck.
I think I like this shape. Not sure, until I open with a jazzy jump Blues working in the Flintstone theme song motif and watch the crowd reaction. Pickguard color needs to be modified though
If only i had watched this video before! Last week I went to Anderton's and there was this guitar hanging on the wall, dissuaded by the funny shape I didn't even tried it!
I feel about this guitar, aesthetically, similar to how many people feel about T-style guitars (which I totally love, both aesthetically and tonally, btw). It looks... weird. But sure packs some nice sounds, man. Not necessarily something I'd go for, tbh, but very nice. And also, sorry for coming across as an ass on one of my previous comments.
Nice review. I loved the design when I first saw it, but, honestly, Music Man is just too expensive. Luckily, Sterling by Music Man has the model for something around 850,- Euro. I bought it a couple of weeks ago and I can highly recommend it - great design, great tones and an incredibly comfortable neck! I thought I was done with solidbodies, but this is the the first solidbody that excites me since 10 years.
I think your eyes are actually going nuts... This guitar looks MEGA COOL!!! Are you sure it is a rosewood neck or is it roasted maple as I can read in the official specs? For those who cares about feeling: 3 young truites means actually 25.5" scale length, and radius is 10" ;) Would love to play one of them! Oh, and FYI mine is long and thick, so not sure getting your joke... ?
I'm a huge St. Vincent fan,but I tried this guitar at Sam Ash and it was just too uncomfortable in the shape of the neck and the body also. I think the pick up configuration is interesting and they seem to sound good from the demos I heard,I assume for the more expensive edition.
I think it's a (stupid) tradition of MM to put the back plates on top of the back. They usually make them out of pickguard material however so this is certainly a step up!
It's really not that bad I actually kind of like it I think it's pretty cool it's like a unique odd version of a firebird, it seems like something Josh Klinghoffer would play
I've never seen a humbucker and also a single coil on the bridge on you Steve Morse guitar I've got an Eddie Van Halen striped and a Tommy Thayer Epiphone signatures
Why even mention we might not like how it looks? It's a breath of fresh air. I'm sick and tired of everyone having their own strat and tele. For fuck's sake...
It's a beauty. I don't know what this woman does, and neither do I care. But she's come up with the first Music Man I've every wanted to own.
She's actually a stellar musician and a great guitar player. Regardless of the genres of music you prefer she demands respect.
Agreed. I'm f-in getting one. Definitely the burst. Annie Clark is badass. I don't listen to her but she's an amazing artist. Wouldn't matter to me who made this. It's awesome.
kind of a weird comment to make. took care to specify their gender too.

That is a beautiful piece of design.
This is a gorgeous guitar and a brilliant design. Kudos to Annie Clark for coming up with it and to Ernie Ball for having the.... to build it.
Is there a quirkier guitar being mass produced? Hell yeah, Ernie Ball to a risk on that beauty.
I got a St. Vincent in blue when they first came out. It’s a killer! Five great sounds, very well made & put together. Neck feels lovely. I personally think it looks cool too. :)

sT Vincent studied at berklee
It has a distinct own character. I like when reviewers get seduced by the playability/playing fun of a guitar.
That clear pick guard on that first guitar is sick
Also the St. Vincent guitar is sick, I’ve always loved it
The St Vincent that comes in stealth black is SUPER sexy! I'd just put some black tele knobs on it and your in business!
The world shall know the fish scale system soon!!
BUT does it come VIT de Finnish Source?
I'll ask my fishscale consultant to look at it
CatPick Studios How many trout to the “soccer field”?
Annie Clark is actually quite good...and her uncle is finger style master Tuck Andress.
+ Dan Luna - Really!?! That's very interesting to me from a genetics standpoint, since not everyone can move their fingers like Tuck or Annie, no matter how much they practice.
The lady name is Annie Clarke
Clark*
Just a girl from Oklahoma.
This is really a beautiful guitar that sounds amazing
Great 1st impressions video. I look forward to a review or at least more info on it. Thanks!
It looks like St Vincent's stage costume, tbh. I'm quite sure that shape was done intentionally
Looks like something Billy Gibbons might use in a funky blues-rock ZZ Top video.
I'm not normally a fan of gold hardware either, but something about that combination of shape, hardware, burst and pickguard all REALLY work well together!
Wow you're a killer player. I didn't expect that in a review.
Thanks HP, from the way it sat steady on your knee, it is not a diver. It looks and sounds brilliant!
Oh here it is ! Thanks for the great Review.
I ACTUALLY LIKE IT Haha, it is weird looking, but that's why it's awesome
Yeah, it has a thing, doesn't it? Don't know, but ever since I first seen it I've been kinda curious about it. It's different, It's interesting.
I have the first release, which was only available in St. Vincent Blue. It reminded me of the old Budweiser bow tie guitar. It's fun.
looks like a firebird meets a bow tie, nice
I've had this model with the chrome hardware for 3 years. I love it!

I REALLY love the shape, but largely prefer the blue one which is simply amazing.
All I can say is I'm glad Annie has her aesthetic taste and not yours. The body design is beautiful.
Jesus that thing is so gorgeous (except for the plasticky). And the reversal shot of your setup was cool to see.
I love the St. Vincent's shape.
I think that guitar looks stunning, you too Henning btw :p
Fantastic instrument. Love it.
In all honesty this man's a legend
Yeah that guitar goes so good with that sweater and sounds great.
4:13 "we've got these mother of pearl *probably plastic* looking tuning keys"
I liked that part. A lot
I have a stealth black one on order. So looking forward to getting it in my hands in a week or so's time.
Nothing I would have picked individually, but that guitar really comes together.
I think it is a very beautiful guitar, pleasing design.
I loved it at once; the first time I saw it online; saving my money and becoming a better guitarist first...
I think the shape of the guitar is awesome by the way. They have certainly managed to make a unique looking guitar that could still very much be a classic, which is insanely hard. It is certainly in Firebird territory, but much more elegant.
I think finally three mini hums is the smartest thing since three single coils, and more versatile. Help me if I ever get my hands on one of these
That guitar is beautiful!

Looks fun to play, too.
I’ve always loved that design. And btw the tuners work because of the headstock design. No tilt back, strings that go straight after going through the nut.

Very nice and objective - thanks!
Great sound and I even love the design
I scoured the Earth for a new one in white. It arrives today. I cannot wait.
Update: it’s here! Absolutely love it.
Awesome Henning!!

Hi Henning... I just got a Sterling St Vincent and It's due to You and Annie Clarke

I love you review so much. Keep the good work.

And I don't even mind gold hardware that much ...if you can't stand the look anymore I'd offer to take it!
DerEchteBold you are so altruistic and selfless! :-P
I think the golden hardware works quite well with the tobacco burst.
The more I see, the more I want one - that tele sound is beautiful
Also, excellent playing!
I think it looks awesome, especially the stealth model.

The guitar is a really cool take on some sort of FB/explorer shape. The headstock is a little out of place.
My only problem is figuring out which color. I'm leaning toward this one.
I luvs this guitar. I just hate music mans head stock on this. Wish they changed it for this model

LOL
With a black 3 ply pick guard and black knobs that would be gorgeous. And recess the covers.
I think your eyes are actually going nuts... This guitar looks MEGA COOL!!!

IMO the design is en the same league as Gibson Explorer/ Firebrid. Just damn gorgeous.
all those outstanding amps behind you....bastard!
I like it ... but I'd remove the pick guard and also stick Telecaster knobs on it.
