Tall Ship Loses Adjective! Thankfully, only for a few days as the skipper and crew of 120 year old Bessie Ellen, along with the experts at Nielsen's Shipyard, navigated the nightmare situation of a broken bridge forcing the lowering of her two masts and rigging. As unfortunate as the situation was, it was fascinating to witness and we're glad to have documented this process, which ordinarily would happen very rarely in a ship's lifetime. We're joining Bessie Ellen on her Round Britain Tour and at the maritime festivals in Brest and Douarnenez in 2024. Subscribe to the channel for more Bessie related films, and you can get early and exclusive access to content via the Going The Whole Hogg and Bessie Ellen Patreon communities (www.patreon.com/goingthewholehogg and www.patreon.com/BessieEllen). A captain gets the crew they deserve. You seem to have an excellent crew;-) Fantastic ship, and we (Dutch sailor living at the Swedish East coast) decided to get a Border Terrier as well..might even call him Bracken, in honor of your favorite shipmate!
I was on the Bessie Ellen years ago sailing around the Caneries and I can tell you Nikki is a formidable character, I liked her very much, I learned a lot about everything and I wish her well. Bon voyage Nikki X
Spellbinding ! I couldn't stop watching this as Nikki overcame all the odds of this challenge . I'm a river-rat myself, but I find these tall ships so awesome ! It's no wonder that my grandfather always wanted to return to the sea .
A simple: Well done! is not enough here - So very well done! All the best to "Bessie Allen" and all those who travel with her. "Immer eine Handbreite Wasser unter dem Kiel" ... Greets, H.
The people who run the river trust may be better off going to a duck pond trust and let a marine minded team take over, so sad to see the way nikki and her crew are given no consideration
In a nutshell, we are filmmakers and travel bloggers who are spending most of this year on board Bessie Ellen, documenting a year in the life of the ship as she embarks on her Round Britain Tour, celebrating her 120th birthday. We'll be sharing many more films about Bessie Ellen's voyage over the next few months. Kim
@@GoingTheWholeHogg Forth video I watched about Bessie Ellen... and I just can’t stop ! Looking forward for her 2024 Round Britain Tour’s 120th birthday ! 🧡✨
Very glad to hear you're enjoying them! We have sooo much footage from the year so far with Bessie Ellen, which means there will be a lot more films about her adventures and the people involved with her. Looking forward to sharing more with you! Thanks for watching 😀
nobody cares about the waterways anymore along as the little barges can make mosny then boats like yours are a pain your right go to holland and they will look after you.
this tittle and owner are full of fake drama crap. they knew that bridge was broken when project started ... this had to happen to get her down the river ...... hate fake drama
Think you’ve misunderstood slightly. The boat was fully rigged, painted, tarred, varnished and all the rest when the news came in that the bridge wouldn’t open, which was just two weeks before guests arrived for the first leg of her Round Britain tour. If that had been missed, it would’ve had a knock on effect for the rest of the season, and in fact, the bridge wasn’t fixed until many weeks later so many paying guests would’ve been unable to join. We missed capturing the masts being lowered, but from our perspective and by any measure really this whole incident was a significant, expensive, and far from easy undertaking. Fake drama it is not, and the title, ‘Lowering Two Tall Ship Masts To Get Under A Broken Canal Bridge’, is as descriptive and non-dramatic as they come.

Thanks for the appreciation! And naming your dog ‘Bracken’, that would be quite the honour indeed!

Thank you for the video! 😊what a nightmare is an understatement! Thank goodness for a great captain and crew!
Thanks for watching! Yes indeed, everyone concerned rose to the occasion 🙂

Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, once you experience life at sea, it always calls you back 🙂

"Immer eine Handbreite Wasser unter dem Kiel" ...
Greets, H.
Much appreciated by all concerned 🙏
You all did a proper job on that rig. The modern crane is a boon!😎
It was a great effort all round, impressive work by all concerned 👍
Such an interesting video.
Fascinating.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks 🙏
Bel Lavoro bravissimi e buon vento
Many thanks 🙏
16:55 what a mess of cables.
How to ever untangle them again?
Indeed! To our untutored eyes we thought the same, but the experts involved knew better and had it dealt with in impressively short time 👏
I hope CRT reimbursed your costs. They unfortunately mismanage the whole of the canal system on a regular basis.
It indeed would be impossible in the Netherlands; a non functional bridge.
Please tell us if CRT paid for the cost of dismantling and re-erecting the masts.
No, they didn’t

😭😭😭🙈🙈🙈💪💪💪👍👍👍✌✌✌
Who are Kim and Del and where do they fit in the project?

Is Bessie Ellen returning to Gloucester for Christmas 24?
I can’t see Capt Nikki putting up with CRT’s broken promises for three years in a row.
@billbligh4547 already there, the allure of T.Nielsen & Co too much to go elsewhere

What does "make mosny" mean ?

There's always one isn't there? 😂
Always one it seems, four thousand two hundred and thirty seven at least!
