See what a working shipyard specialising in traditional tall ship rigging, repair, and maintenance is like, and learn about Britain’s last surviving three-mast wooden hull topsail schooner, Kathleen & May. Growing up in Milford Haven during the 1950's I remember the Kathleen & May sailing up the Haven on her way to Pembroke. The local Farmers Co-op had a warehouse on Pembroke Key opposite the Castle and the Kathleen & May brought cattle-cake in on a regular contract. The local boatmen at the time knew we where seeing something special.
Wonderful to see so much on the Kathleen &May. In 2019 I built a 1/24 scale model of her which, now things have returned to normal after the pandemic I am able to sail regularly on the boating lake at Ryde on the Isle of Wight. The model was built in traditional fashion, plank on frame, in pine. She sail’s perfect and is much commented on. Perhaps I may try and make a trip to Gloucester this summer but now in my eighty’s long trips take a little planning. Is she open for viewing and if so when?
That sounds like quite the project, no wonder she’s much commented upon. Not sure about viewing but there’s usually one of the volunteers (who look after Kathleen & May) there each day.
Do you have to be a paying “patron” in order to see updates as you’re taking this trip around the UK… or are there planned videos for TH-cam in the future?
Hi Judy, we will be releasing new videos soon (next one this weekend) although there will be a limit to what we can produce while on the go. All the main videos will eventually be available on YT, but in the meantime, we are putting out various short segments for the Patreon page only 🙂
Cheers! If you have Facebook or Instagram you can also follow along with the daily stories on our (@goingthewholehogg) and Bessie Ellen (@bessie_ellen) accounts.

Can picture her arriving there with the castle as a backdrop, what a great memory that must be.
I wonder if Leo Goolden and Tally Ho will one day visit Gloucester. ☺️

Missed the bit when k&m was in st Mary overie dock before she left London.
Excellent. Only comment is - several shots of ‘Josefine’ (sailing wood) but no comment in the commentary.
Sorry about that, an oversight on our part.
Nice to see her.
