Yes, I agree she is highly articulate. However there are many holes in her answers to the interviewer's questions. Lesley states that she no longer had a recording career when she finally graduated from college...but why? It certainly was not for a lack of trying as Lesley continued to record many singles and albums while in college. She continued to make TV appearances while in college. So what happened?
@alterdestiny There are holes in her interview. The interviewers asked her why they did not hear from her after her initial slew of hits. Lesley's answer is that she went to college. However Lesley continued to record singles and albums and make appearances while she was in college. She never stopped her career because of college. Lesley continued to record well into the mid 70's. The fact of the matter is her record company dropped her in 1969 because she no longer was recording material that would sell. Radio programmers just would not touch her after 1968 or so. I have read Lesley's biographical book and she recorded record after record after record well into the mid-70's, and the public for the most part did not get to hear them. I have to say though the records she made after 1967 were not very good as they failed to match the music with her persona. The excitement of her earlier hits simply was not there.
@@jackanthony976 Hi Jack, sorry for replying years late, ha. "What happened?"- Well, Beatlemania happened, the British Invasion happened.I think I read long ago that Lesley was the last big pop sensation in the US before the Beatles came in and dominated the charts. Not much she could have done for a different outcome.
She is one classy lady. My favorite performance was done when she was about 65 years old on Legendary Ladies of Rock and Roll...part 1. WOW, she was a stunning senior with much class. She was in great shape and so was her voice. Thanks Lesley.....love you lots.
Good interview. The ladies asked good questions and then let Lesley answer them. I grew up on Lesley Gore songs. She was so talented. I miss her music. RIP.
She was just so smart. She tried on so many different styles later in her career that it makes me wonder if she just didn't understand how incredibly great her early recordings and vocals truly were.
Thank You NOT Forgotten . Lesley Gore R.I.P .
I love how respectful the interviewers were. They are asking good questions and are looking super engaged and interested in Lesley's answers. So many interviewers look like they just want to bang out the questions as quickly as possible and not actually listen to the answers. I enjoyed this one. Thanks for sharing it.
Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Lesley Gore, they have nothing on you, you are legend to those of us who came of age with your music, R.I.P. You are missed.
I read that she had never smoked in her life. And yet got lung cancer. Another article, online, said she began smoking young. I don't know which article was more accurate. 🤔
The pun at the end seals the deal on the corporate shill aspect of this interview. Got a real appreciation for Lesley though. She likes to keep it real and it shows.
Lesley Gore's music brings me back to my childhood, especially when we lived in California. I found it sad she only had $50K to her name at time of death. It seems a paltry sum for one who gave so much.
Probably the way of many early 60's performers, when the producers and labels took it all. Add writer royalties, what's left but the personal appearances? You're right, and it always brings me sadness to see those we love for the joy they gave us to have so little back.
I don't think she would have cared if she was only worth 5 dollars, the point is she was a strong smart lady 😍 and being born in 71 I did not know her songs until I was around 10 years old and boy you don't own me is so impactful for a young person,52 now and I still get goosebumps when I hear this song ❤
Lesley herself said she only receive ONE check from her record company during years she was having all here hits, and it was for $16,000. Then, after releasing her they claimed that SHE owed THEM money for studio time. Like so many of those 60's artists she got ripped off by her record company (I think she did receive some additional monies like 30 years later in a settlement against them).
She was exceptionally intelligent. Not your average. Also very grounded in herself, anchored in her identity. I love the way she experimented with styles as a reflection of expansion and exploration and didnt allow the public to dictate who she was. Funny but her character and personality remind me of a George Eliot or Jane Austen.
This looks to be around late 1987 or 1988 based on her 25 years remark and her mention of Debbie Gibson, another singer who also had a quick round of success for a couple years, then faded out and appears sporadically.
I agree. It seems for Deb, that she couldn’t handle the anxiety of the fame and wanted to live normal. She detoured in singing in broadway where its more exclusive

@@juliadawnyel3648 Lesbians are not vulgar; you're the vulgar one for assuming any comment that mentions her being a lesbian means anything more than simply that.
Julia Dawnyel Pretty sure it's not meant vulgar. It's I think directed at the deep sultry quality of her voice, very similar to Jodie Foster now that it's mentioned; and while maybe presumptuous to relate that to being lesbian, it's an arguable point just as gay men often have a characteristic way of speaking. Personally, I don't even think about her preferences until someone brings it up - my instinctual thoughts are "what a voice!" - speaking and singing. So few of my early musical influences left.
Her family moved to Tenafly, NJ and that is where she grew up and began her chain of hits. Cousin Brucie on top forty radio WABC in NY used to introduce her as " the little sweety pie from Tenafly"

The blonde woman's name is Jackie Glass. Linda, at the time, was starring as Felicia Gallant on ANOTHER WORLD.
