This is so helpful. There is such a glut of outdoor cameras on the market as anyone like me who has been musing about this layer of security will be only too aware. Thanks Tim, as usual you have brought great clarity to the issue.

Great review as always. I have been using 2 Argus Pros for a while now. I have them set up on a machinery storage shed. Got around the WiFi problem by having a Unifi wide area access point on top of the house. This gives WiFi coverage for about 180 m radius. We have very dodgy mobile coverage so this gives Wifi calling and other data driven services across a lot of our small property and makes the Wifi security cameras the perfect option.

Interesting video. I have 2 x Reolink Argus PT 2K cameras with solar panels. We don't have mobile coverage and internet is via Skymuster satellite. So positioned close enough to the house to use the wifi. Not needing power or cables is great. As you noted, very easy to set up and they work a treat via the Reolink App even over satellite broadband - which not all cameras will. Being PTZ cameras, I can swivel them around remotely and cover most of the area leading up to the house and the paddocks behind. Great way to waste time watching the cows while I should be working in my day job in town! I paid $212 each incl the solar panel. Well worth it.

Thanks Tim, you have answered quite a few questions I have had with security cameras, we are WIFI challenged here and I need a camera at the front gate which is at least 120 metres from the house. And there is not a bit of mobile coverage there. Anyway back to the drawing board for me. Cheers

Similar here, mobile coverage is really sketchy in the good spots and internet connection is atrocious so not worth thinking wifi for even up close to the house.
Stand alone cameras and SD cards are still our thing it seems.
Oh for anyone with white cameras...
you can buy Camo tape, works well 👍

I've got a Reolink wired camera set up at my property and I've had an excellent experience montotoring my property remotely without the headache of flat batteries or wifi signals. Attached to a house I wouldn't go any other way. Reolink is great value for money any option you decide on going with. Definitely keen to try a Go PT camera at the gate now. Thanks Tim 👍

Same, I got one of their PoE DVR systems with 5K cameras. As well as great picture quality and night vision, the cameras have human detection as well as motion detection so I don't get alerts at night from animals. I used a couple of PoE repeaters as well so I could put a camera a few hundred metres down my driveway near the gate as well as around my sheds. (I don't live on my property.)

Nice work Tim, I use a Reolink camera on site to watch our semi trailer and machinery, it works great, the only hassle was dealing with the sim card setup as you said.

Great information, you are doing the homework for us, very much appreciated!
Agree, the colour of the camera would have been far better a cameo one for us in the sticks.
Unfortunately, the times dictate that we have to do everything & beyond to protect our properties.
We have our beautiful 'Honey' too, I will be happy knowing I can monitor her whilst we're not at home too.
    Thanks so much Tim

I use a 12V alarm battery with a long twin core wire with jack to aux. power my trailcams. I also use some Blutac around the jack port to keep little black ants from making nests inside the trailcam. I found my Browning trailcams take very good quality photos.

Very timely video. We have been using trail cameras for security as we have a neighbour who practices animal cruelty and likes to kill or maim our livestock, but they suffer the shortcomings you mentioned. I will certainly have a closer look at your two suggestions as they appear to produce at least good enough quality images and have a reasonably wide coverage. There are so many varieties of security cameras on the market with such varied abilities, it is very difficult to make an informed decision without purchasing a heap of them and testing them all out in their intended environments. Who has the time or money for that. Thanks for the review. 🤠

Great reviews. Would love to know how the data plan is going. Keen on these but not sure how much data they will use on our mobile connected wifi.

Fantastic! - I've been overwhelmed trying to find cameras that will work or WiFi extenders that will reach the goat sheds. After milking tomorrow I'm going hunting for mobile reception.....
Can't wait for an update on data usage....
I'm less concerned about security - I just want footage of baby goat shenanigans and an end to 3 am labor checks so I might still want WiFi down there.
If you fancy doing another review....... :D

These guys should sponsor you for your awesome reviews of their products, and then offer discounts to your plethora of subscribers!
Great video as always, and yes I reckon some masking tape and some Camo spray paint would be on the cards........but like you mentioned in last week's video, sometimes just a sign or the white camera itself could be a deterrent enough, especially now that it's streamed and not linked to a VHS like the old days. (Showing my age! 😁)👌👍

I suppose your website does have the info about these security cameras, but be buggered if i can find it. Why the hell can't you just have the link to the products reviewed in the video in the video notes? Did some propeller head web person tell you to it is imperitive to drive traffic to your website as a primary objective? ffs.

I spent many hours putting this together yesterday and only just got it finished 10 minutes prior to release. I’m working today on the review, which I will link in the description when it’s done. I couldn’t do everything yesterday. This channel is a labour of love, not a fully fledged business. Yes. My website needs improvement and I’m working on this at the moment. Please don’t swear at me.
