  • We've been waiting years for a game to bring back the spirit of Burnout, and Three Fields Entertainment aims to deliver with Dangerous Driving. This is a brilliant game, that's well worth buying - but there are some caveats you should be aware of going in. John and Rich check out all four console versions...

      I really don't want to blame them, the manpower is obviously not comparable to Criterion days, but what bothers me the most is why did they try to make the game so identical to Burnout 3?

  • @HarryB4497
    @HarryB4497 5 ปีที่แล้ว +85

    I hope this succeeds and expands Three Fields, it's still early days and this game only scratches the surface. The fact a team of 7 created something like this with a limited budget is amazing really. There's potential here.

    • @Shokkerz1976
      @Shokkerz1976 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You get it man... most others here don't. If this makes Three Fields decent revenue then the next one will be larger budget and everything that goes with that. For 7 to create a game like this is insane, and with multiplayer on the way too I think it's pretty awesome for the price.

    • @TheRogueMaverick
      @TheRogueMaverick 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'll agree it's no Burnout... but I'm AMAZED how well it recaptures the magic! When I put on a Spotify playlist that has Revenge's soundtrack... I actually had to tell myself this is NOT Burnout!
      Three Fields ABSOLUTELY made the right call here by focusing on the gameplay itself. If a game doesn't feel fun, I feel that makes a lesser product.
      In fact, I think the controls feel better than Revenge! Paradise was fine, but the map kinda hurt the mechanics. The lacking amount of traffic and sudden intersections when boosting kind of pulled me out of the game. And I got up to A Rank on Switch and I believe PS4. So I'm no noob at Paradise.

  • @ApenBaard
    @ApenBaard 5 ปีที่แล้ว +80

    Maybe interesting numbers(from my memory from interviews with the guys at three fields)
    Burnout 1 was made by around 25 people
    2 by around 50 people
    3 and revenge by around 120-150 people
    Paradise by even more people

    • @Astfgl
      @Astfgl 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      A large part of those team sizes will have been people working on the Renderware engine. Considering they're using the Unreal Engine here you can't really compare that. Also I'd be curious to know how many of those 120-150 people working on BO3 worked there when Acclaim was still bankrolling Criterion, versus after EA took over.

      SSX3 and B3 were the best. Those SSX3 half hour races down the entire mountain remain some of the best experiences in a game. Loved the SSX3- Burnout Revenge 'shared universe' too.
      Late 90's- early 2000's EA was great: Sled Storm (PS1), SSX3, Burnout 3 and Revenge, NFS Underground and Most Wanted, Everything or Nothing, NBA Street 2, Freedom Force, Medal of Honor and MoH: Frontline, Def Jam: Fight for NY, etc.
      They still had a lot of licensed games but every year there was at least one memorable EA game for positive reasons. And before somebody says again "but Burnout was developed by Criterion", EA was still the publisher. They were taking more risks with the AAA games they developed or published than they've been doing recently.

Even the driving was less whimsical, where they didn't allow you to fuck up as often, which was half the fun of B3:T. Amount of Content isn't the game, FUN is the game, and BO4:R was Crit literally 95% heading to what killed BO to begin with : cutting corners, stuffing it with junk, and following EA's vision of "pump it out, rake it in"...look where EA is now with Crit and NFS. *Burnout CRASH ffs...*

Most importantly they managed to replicate the gameplay feel of the original Burnout games which should provide a very solid basis for any future games.

    Ok played it alot now! First thoughts for anyone who is hasitating to buy or not:
    -Handling is very nice! The near misses are way more easier to handle/save, which makes you far more often smile and not frustrated!
    -The track in my opinion arent memorizable! Everytime i drive on a track, i dont know where the next corner will be(dont know if this is intentional or not). I just cant learn the courses so i cant improve my breaking points ect....
    -The Tracks are very similar! Only the weather seems to change(snowy threes, sunshine or winter)
    more tracks would be nice in free DLSCs.
    But the most frustrating thing is:
    - You CANT change the button layout!
    I mean what were the devs thinking? I hate to pull of a handbreak powerslide around the corner with the L2 trigger. Why cant they make a changable button preset? I would love to drive the "old fashion" way: Acceleration "X" and "quare" handbreak, R1 Nitro/boost. Hope they fix this with a patch, because otherwise i will sell this game.
    -LAGGING!
    I mean I have constant lagging/stutter on some of the tracks in different times where the image stops for half of a second completely! Mostly in the tunnel segments!(Ps4 Pro)
    I Will post this on some Videos here so maybe the devs read about this and can take care of it!
    THREEFIELDS! FIX THIS PLEASE! Otherwise a fun game.

    My two main gripes with this game is the takedown camera and the handling, particularly with the drifting. In B3, the takedown camera would quickly pan over to your wrecked opponent in slo-mo, then pan back to your car. In this game, the camera cuts to your wrecked opponent in real time, then cuts back. It's almost jarring and similar to the takedown camera in Burnout Paradise. Also, in B3, the drifting was more fluid and controllable, allowing you to fine-adjust the drift in progress. In this game, it feels like I'm on rails. I read from an interview that they did make the tracks around the handling so fine-adjusting a drift wouldn't be that necessary from what I gather. I'm not blaming the dev team, though. They tried their best with the tools they had. Unreal Engine just doesn't lend itself well to this type of gameplay. I've had my fair share of frustrations using it in college. If only they used the Renderware Engine. Now that was the engine of a generation! Here's hoping they work out the kinks for DD2.

      Agreed on the camera. One of my biggest issues though I am having a lot of fun on the game. Write the devs or Tweet to them and tell them, need more people to do this on big issues like this. I have and even filled out a few bug reports with mentioning this in one of them. They have said their only focus for now is fixing flaws/bugs and online play.

    I might buy this just to encourage them to keep working towards a more complete version. I really enjoyed the old burnout games. Onrush was a really cool concept and looks terrific. My biggest issues with it are the lack of split-screen and the queue times for an online match. The handling also feels a bit heavy for my tastes, but I then I play a lot of Rocket League which may influence how I expect a car to handle, and I understand the goal. Queue times seem to have improved, possibly due to an increase in players. Split-screen is important in racing games and It makes me sad that so many developers skip it in favor of more flashy graphics. I sure wish we could get the racing game blur on backwards compatibility. My disc is sitting on my shelf in a case waiting for a chance to make a comeback. Eventually I may end up re-purchasing a used Xbox 360 just for that game. It really was that good.

    Totally agree with your opinion on soundtracks in a racing game. I have been into the odd racing game over the years, including a few Burnouts, and the "feel" of the soundtrack is a huge part of my fond memories of the games. I think the track selection is a huge part of setting the mood of the game, (like Burnout 3, or Need for Speed Underground).. user defined music is a great option but shouldn't be default, especially requiring a subscription I have no intention of getting.

To me tt's not a deal breaker the music thing since I have my home theater plugged next to my ps4, so I can just pop my cd's in, but I can understand how annoying and mood killer it can be to someone who doesn't have spotify. • @OldsXCool

    Arcade racers still exist but the worst thing about all games made today is that they have to have variety of game modes and usually have to have some sort of stupid story progression to move the game along or an open world. Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2 was one of the last games to have a simple progression tree of just over 30 races each for straight up racing and hot pursuit racing. No drag or drift racing. Burnout has its crashing and boosting. How about a simple game with awesome fast cars and tracks to race on? When you win all the races you've beaten the game. The only game I've played recently that does that is Horizon Chase. It's a mobile game and it's really good. It also has an amazing soundtrack.
