I love the belt squat. A game changer if you have back issues. I have the REP belt squat to goes great with my Ares REP rack. I am aware that it is nor Coop’s favorite, but it works for me since I have made modifications. I attached a winch with synthetic line to allow me to start from a standing position like a regular barbell squat would start. The winch pulls the weight stack up for me so i can start at the standing position with my Spud inc belt squat belt. I also use the Rep dip bars so i can lean back to allow different positions similar to a smith machine squat
@Coop, I think my OG squatmax came with a simple piece of tubular nylon that connected the tab on the button to the sliding pin to keep it from coming completely off the track. Hope that helps
Man, I wish I had the space. At 65, I don't love having the bar up on the shoulders. And yet the squat remains such an important exercise. I have never wanted one of the lever type because of that pull forward effect. I want a belt squat to keep from getting hurt, and to my mind that means traveling up and down as vertically as one can. This looks great.
TH-cam "30 diy belt squat" and Design Build Lift channel he has a great belt squat thats a small foot print. same concept at the titan kinda. thinking about making one
I will add this to my studio for my clients. The amount of people I coach with back problems is so common throughout each year it’s just necessary at this point. Plus it doesn’t take up as much space as their cheaper belt squat. Thanks for the review!
I'd like to see a comparison of the various belt squats used for multiple lower body exercises. How they compare squatting but also how they compare split squatting (and Bulgarian SS version), box squatting, lunging, hip thrusting and any others you can think of. I don't need a piece of equipment made for the lower body to be leveraged to the upper body but I'd really prefer it be capable of multiple exercises.
Be warned : I bought the rack attached version and its loading pin was misaligned at the factory rendering it useless with anything but 25s - Titan CS has yet to make things right, weeks later - this is not an isolated case apparently
Why doesn’t Rogue produce attachments like a seat for the Rhino? Why not a third party? There’s 2 holes in front and the o my thing I’ve ever seen it used for was to attach the bench prop to.
Great Review. I'm not sure if you watch other reviewers, but Garage Gym Lab also did a review on the Titan SquatMax-MD and listed quite a few other attachments that can be used with the equipment and what those additional holes are used for.
So i have a stand alone rhino, a stand alone weigjt stacked FT, a stand alone weigjt stacked titan lat pull down and foldable x3 titan rack, echo rogue bike, goat, and waiting for isolator. And have many more things in a 21x10 which is 210sq feet. I dont need rhino for versitality just to do leg work since i have 2 buldging disk, rhino so easy to use. I been thinking about selling it and getting squat max md since i already have other cable machines. I hate the top loading in squat max md thats why i went with rhino. Just trying to make alsome space in my garage to make permanent room for isolator.
I really enjoy belt squatting and most of my equipment is Titan, but even the rack-mountable version is a lot of 'thing' to store in my single garage bay gym. Not that I blame them, it's exactly what it has to be. But I'll have to stick with my homemade lever belt squat attachment.
Elitefts makes a landmine attachment for belt squats that I used for years until I bought a squatmax recently. It got the job done for years. It was also less than 200 dollars and super space efficient
Have mine and love it! Only complaint is that shorter folks might need Brian’s transformer pin from his site for around $35 to hit depth, but that’s a good thing to get anyway if you want to make it more posterior chain focused. Easily the best belt squat on the market.
@@hitleractually8180 Depends on what you want. If you want the best belt squat and lower body exercise experience with some versatility for rows and other things in a small form factor, it’d be the SquatMax. If you wanted versatility for more things outside of squats, and have a lot more space, that’d be the Rhino. I like the Rhino but a lot of the versatility it can offer is relatively useless in the context of already having a gym and cables. I can do curls and other low pulley things on it, but I also already have a low pulley that’s arguably better at that. The main thing I would use a Rhino for are squats and rows, and you can do the former better on the SquatMax, and you can still do the latter on the SquatMax. Just depends on what you’re after and what other things you have. For the price difference you probably could also buy a cable machine and that being separate alongside the SquatMax would take up about the same space as a Rhino, and you’d have two separate units. You can also roll the SquatMax around.
@@UnderTheBar Actually yeah. Although Brian sells a deadlift bar on his site for it, it’s just a small straight bar, so any cable attachment type bar will do. Rogue sells a long cable straight bar that’s an Ohio bar turned into a cable attachment if you wanted an actual barbell feel, but anything would be fine. His transformer pin on his site would get the starting point lower if you needed it to be as well. It’s not a low cable like the Rhino, but you can use it as if it were one for a good number of exercises, like bent over rows, deadlift / T bell squat variations, calf raises, hip thrusts, and of course many squat variations. It somewhat defeats the purpose of it being attached to your hips, but if you’ve got the harness for it like one of the ones I got from Spud, you can do front squats on it too. The height of the unit itself is great for high step ups too. You could also attach a straight bar to a chain or strap, and do overhead pressing with it I suppose, though I personally don’t feel the need to try it. That’s pretty versatile if you ask me! Brian said Titan’s developing their own attachments kind of like his, so at some point we’ll probably see the chest supported row attachment and things like that as well.
@@srhysesiiick definitely leaning toward this vs the rogue then. I want mainly a belt squat with tad variations. So based off your description and this video, sounds like a solid buy. Thanks!
[9:04] Gluck just posted his review of this and mentioned the holes don't go all the way through, like on a rack. Do you think you should have mentioned this? Most people would assume you could add rack attachments, band pegs etc. but I assume you can't?
Correct the holes don’t go all the way through but it wouldn’t stop someone from using a pop pin locking attachment which I guess the titan attachments will have to be

I bought a rack-mountable SquatMax MD because I got a great price for it on a Titan Fitness flash sale. I have it mounted on solid concrete construction blocks. The rack-mountable SquatMax MD doesn't need to be mounted on a power rack or squat stand. Stacking four 6" x 8" x 16 solid concrete construction blocks in each corner of the rack-mountable SquatMax MD will suffice.
@@andreytravkin7579 I forget the exact flash sale price, but it was around $779, and it cost me around $860 total. By the way, I own 7 different ways to do belt squats in my four home gyms. I recommend having more than just the Titan Fitness SquatMax MD to do belt squats with, because as Vladimir Zatsiorsky, the world renowned sport biomechanist, former Soviet Olympic strength and conditioning consultant, and current Emeritus Professor of Kinesiology for Penn State University asserts, strength training exercises and training methods should vary to prevent accommodation, or your body becoming accustomed to the exercise and training method. Doing DIY belt squats with different belt squats attachments using different angles offers a different kind of stress to your body. So do traditional belt squats. I like doing belt squats on my SquatMax MD, but I still do belt squats with my other 6 belt squat set-ups, which includes using Black Widow platforms and squat handles on my Titan Fitness T-3 half rack, belt squats on plyo boxes and my Swedish ladder, and even on my Stamina PT 1690 Pull-Up/Dip Station and Everlast Boxing Heavy Bag Stand.
This is still my favorite home gym piece of equipment! It feels better than a traditional squat, imo, and can see why Brian Hennessy is so passionate/vocal about his product. One thing that wasn't demonstrated on this review was the ability to add resistance bands at the bottom. This is important bc the added tension will destroy your quads and glutes at the top of the movement.
I’m visualizing a lat tower that drops into the square hole. There is so much potential in this unit, I think I’m buying it. Gym space be damned it’s gotta fit somewhere
Had both the rack mounted and stand alone. I did not like either model. Pit shark or gym80 make a far better belt squat machine. Yo Coop, why don’t you review a wider range of belt squat machines?
I have a Rogue Rhino and am considering selling it to get the SquatMax. I used the SquatMax earlier this year and immediately noticed how much better it felt to squat with than the Rhino. The Rhino versatility is a bit overrated in my opinion if you already have a decent cable setup. Only issues with the SquatMax is that I wish the rack attached version wasn’t watered down and ceiling height clearance.
That's interesting. I didn't like the SquatMax much when I tried it for a few sessions. I felt like it was very limiting in foot positioning, and I didn't really notice any positive difference in feel compared to a cable system. I really like adjusting my foot positioning narrow/wide and forward/backward to change the focus of the movement on my Rhino, and I didn't feel like I was able to do that much at all on the SquatMax. I might have to give it another try. What did you like about it vs. the Rhino?
@@MARCOLOPEZARRIAGAI do still have my Rhino. I’m not thinking about selling it. I didn’t like the SquatMax personally, but it’s personal preference for sure.
I own a Squatmax and one of the gyms I have a membership to has a Rhino - the path of the Squatmax is much more comfortable for me (6'3, long legs and lower back/Hip flexor/ankle issues) and I feel more activation in the quads and glutes depending on the transformer pin orientation compared to the Rhino. The Rhino is pretty awesome and easier to load but I think I'll keep the Squatmax for the foreseeable future.
I don't have this version. I have the squat max md which is very close other than cosmetic changes. I'm 6ft3, I can go noticeably below depth. I can go below depth even on the lowest belt hook loop.
@@NPow94 I don't know. I use it but not a crazy amount. I ve had it for over 2 yrs now, still haven't gotten around to attaching bands for some reason. I compete in powerlifting and although it's nice to not have a bar on my back sometimes I would probably use a leg press way more if I had one.
Would love to hear more about its footprint and height, my garage ceilings are at 8' could I stand on this in low ceilings? Please do a belt squat roundup.
The top of the platform is set at ~20" high on my OG rack mounted Squatmax and I can hit depth easily, so if you have 8 ft ceilings you will have a mimimum of 4" of clearance if you're 6 ft tall, but in practice you'll have even more because you lose height when your feet are in squat position. I agree Coop should have included the size dimensions of the two models in his review, but tbf the specs are listed on Titan's website. Space is so important in a home gym tho! That's why I got an OG rack-mounted instead of the OG standalone model. Am jealous of that seat attachment though!
Any chance you'll be looking at the new Kensui Adjustabells MAX? Seems like the new best in class screw in type adjustable dumbbells on the market at $100 with a 150lb weight capacity per handle!
"This is one of the few collaborated products Titan has done and it may be the best." because Titan normally copies everyone's design and makes it cheaper. They even take from small creators like Basement Brandon Cambell's drop in competition bench...
@@samwroblewski748 he didn't file a patent so he had no IP over it so yes "fair game"... I'm also talking about the bench that locks in with band pegs not the other one he collaborated with Rogue who credited him.. look up 'Titan Fitness Drop-in Power Rack Bench Competition Height" That was a stand alone product unlike another on the market which he prototyped and did vids on... Was the design novel and could it be patented? Likely was the case but IMO it's a shady practice to take in a design in its entirety even if it's "fair game" least they could have done was reached out first and credited him with the design which I think he said he'd be okay with. Here titan did the right thing and collaborated in this belt squat instead of just copy and rebrand.
I have the same concern. With the rack mounted version, looks to not be a problem but with the standalone, that crossbar that titan has modified looks to take some range away. THe original was just flat. I think most here would say to use the carabiner on higher loops on the belt.
This machine is great BUT you need to get box cutters and remove stupid sound deadening material on guide rod and put 3/4" PVC pipe which also muffles sound and is silky smooth and doesn't add resistance!
@@thomaspham-qf4ry New Titan Squat Max. Use box cutters or razer to take off the foam they have on the guide rod then put 7/8" PVC pipe fits perfect and the weight horn moves so smooth up and down. I usually warm up with some regular squats 135x15 185x12 maybe 225 x 10 then do more sets on Squat Max as it doesn't tire back and hips at all actually makes back feel great like hanging from pullup bar does. I go heavy then next leg day or two if still sore lift a lot lighter and more sets more reps. Seems to work every two weeks adding 10lbs to squat max up to 250lbs for 10 reps and started at 120lbs its MUCH harder than regular squats the inventor claims 2x as hard. All I know is my quads have blown up about 2.5 inches in 4 months. I'll probably max out at 300lbs or 325 don't want legs so big I need to order special jeans/pants and if I went over 350lbs normal pants wouldn't fit for sure!
If you have a bad back and can’t do a standard squat this thing is literally as necessary as a squat rack. If you can do standard squats I mostly agree.
Do not buy. Titan rack attached version does not fit my rogue rack unless you put it on the side, guide rod is not long enough so I can’t reach depth, plates do not center with the hole so you’ll end up hitting the platform.
This is my fear. I am fine with normal barbell squats, but I am curious to see if belt squats are something I’m missing out on. In the end I feel like I would regret such a large purchase and just prefer a normal barbell squat
@@NPow94 in my opinion belt squats are like a quad isolation exercise I definitely don’t think the rhino is worth the price if you want extra leg work without putting weights on your back I suggest doing lunges or split squats with dumbbells the Titan belt squat was low quality

I sometimes did belt squats at the gym using those long plyo steps stacked and my dip belt with weight on it but I wouldn’t say it was what initially got my legs massive.
It's nice, but as usual with Titan, the depth is inadequate. You were barely breaking parallel, and it was bottomed out. I'm not spending that kind of money on a machine if I can't go ass to grass. The attachment version is dumb. I'm not lugging that enormous thing around every time I want to use it. That alone would make me never use it.
@aptn22 If you're spending that kind of money, you shouldn't have to rig it up. Titan makes decent equipment, but they don't spend any time fine-tuning the small details.
@@jimdango123456there is no rigging up needed. If you just change the loops you use in the belt it will change your depth. Probably you see coop bottom out the device because he doesn’t really use this device and so he just wasn’t using the right loops on the belt. This has nothing to do with being titan. This is like complaining about the wrong size on an adjustable hat and then not realizing you could just tighten the loop and fix the issue.
@aptn22 I have a lot of experience with titan equipment, and depth is a common issue with their machines. If the belt loop gives you another foot of depth, then that's great. It doesn't appear that way from the multiple reviews I have seen on different channels. Literally, everyone is barely breaking parallel.
@@jimdango123456 Of the belt squat options, i think squatmax gives you the best depth. Cable machines and lever machines both can bottom out but can be better with the right belt option. For example I have a kabuki kratos flywheel that is essentially a cable belt squat but it will bottom out if I use a larger belt that sags. There are plenty of pro teams that use squatmax as their preferred belt squat because of this. This “Titan” product is a bit different than others. It’s not a copy or imitation. It was a collaboration and actually an improvement on the existing design that has had over a decade of updates and revisions. The depth these guys are getting, or lack there of, is probably just poor adjustment, experience with the device and likely they were just focusing on other things in the video. Huge fan of Coop but you know he’s not using this device at all.
I was thinking the same thing. I purchased a Syedee leg press machine from Walmart's website a couple of months ago. They have a website also. It was cheaper from Walmart. Their machines are made in China. When I got the machine I was wondering how the welds would be. People where commenting how bad the welds were on equipment coming from Titan and others from China. The welds on this thing are, in my opinion perfect. I also purchased their preacher curl machine. The welds are the same. Hey Coop see if you can do some reviews on Syedee, fitness machines.

I would be putting this in my shed. How tall does the ceiling have to be for someone to do the exercise squat. I’m 5‘10“.
Does it attach within a rack or only on the outside as shown? That’s what I was most disappointed about seeing
I have one. It will fit outside or inside but I’m not sure why you’d want it inside.
@@jfra4mainly save some space and it will be more fixed.
in depth comparison to the rhino please - how much better or how much worst is the rhinos's slight angle on the pull?
I own a Squatmax and one of the gyms I have a membership to has a Rhino - the path of the Squatmax is much more comfortable for me (6'3, long legs and lower back/Hip flexor/ankle issues) and I feel more activation in the quads and glutes depending on the transformer pin orientation compared to the Rhino. The Rhino is pretty awesome and easier to load but I think I'll keep the Squatmax for the foreseeable future.
The pictures on their site are interesting, but I'm more interested in what looks like Vendetta jammer arm attachments coming from Titan.
Where did you see those?
I want a self-standing one, but Titan Fitness is sold out.
I hope that Titan Fitness will have them in stock again by Christmas, 2023.
Didn't hear you mention the range of motion? Looks like you are bottoming out on some reps?
I hope rep fitness deliver to Hawaii soon, coupe maybe you can convince them.
Is this ideal to get squat depth for someone who's 5'9?
Will the belt squat increase bone density?
Hey coop, is your review of the Freak Athlete NORDIC HYPEREXTENSION coming soon?
How’s assembly? Can this work for someone that’s 6’4”?
I don't have this version. I have the squat max md which is very close other than cosmetic changes. I'm 6ft3, I can go noticeably below depth. I can go below depth even on the lowest belt hook loop.
@@nickc3365 thank you for the reply! How’s your experience with it so far? Would you purchase this piece again?
@@NPow94 I don't know. I use it but not a crazy amount. I ve had it for over 2 yrs now, still haven't gotten around to attaching bands for some reason. I compete in powerlifting and although it's nice to not have a bar on my back sometimes I would probably use a leg press way more if I had one.
@@nickc3365 that’s interesting man. Thanks for the feedback. It’s easy to get caught up in the hype with something like this.
Multiple NBA and NFL utilize this for squats for their athletes. It will work for you as well I would think.
The one thing that puts me off this, is it doesn’t seem to allow for narrow stance squats
You can use 25 lb plates and there's a narrow stance adapter you can use on top to make the hole smaller.
I’m ordering this
Take all my money
Any chance you'll be looking at the new Kensui Adjustabells MAX? Seems like the new best in class screw in type adjustable dumbbells on the market at $100 with a 150lb weight capacity per handle!
Do a roundup please😊
Great review!
"This is one of the few collaborated products Titan has done and it may be the best." because Titan normally copies everyone's design and makes it cheaper. They even take from small creators like Basement Brandon Cambell's drop in competition bench...
That one was fair game cuz when it happened it was a one off solution to a nitpick he had, not a commercial product.
Hi Coop, how deep can you get in the squat? It seems that it is limited and you can't get ATG. Let me know. Thank you.
I have the same concern. With the rack mounted version, looks to not be a problem but with the standalone, that crossbar that titan has modified looks to take some range away. THe original was just flat. I think most here would say to use the carabiner on higher loops on the belt.
Also… the only thing I would ever get as an attachment to a rack is dip bars. Anything else is just a pain in the ass.
I'm honestly surprised someone made a commercial version of looks like a tedious DIY idea. I'm more surprised people buy it.
Why do you say that?
The tabs look like a way to lock in the bands if you what them there semi permanently.
Can you do calve raises with this?
Yes. Very easily. I use the narrow stance inlay and use it for marches and calf raises.
Using the heavy bands also helps with the resistance profile as well for calf raises/marching.
This machine is great BUT you need to get box cutters and remove stupid sound deadening material on guide rod and put 3/4" PVC pipe which also muffles sound and is silky smooth and doesn't add resistance!
On the new titan fitness squat max or the origins squat max ?? And where do I put the pvc pipe
This or a new Kbox5?
Excited to see the review of the Surplus Strength pro version
Is the range of motion as bad as it looks?
At max height (rack attachment) I can touch hams to calves. It really depends on how high you attach the carabiner to the belt.
did you ever review wenning belt squat
Are you gonna review the titan nemisis??? 👀
Does Titan still make that
A line up showing the power curve on each belt squat would be awesome.
Would love to see a round up video of them all showing their various advantages and disadvantages
Can we get a review of Titan linebacker
my man's wedding ring has a knurling on it. lol
Coop please stop reading my mind…. I was looking up this product when this video dropped
Literally just saw that yesterday and was wondering if you reviewed it yet lmao
Please do a round up
Is it possible to mount this inside the rack?
@9:30, that is not an impressive looking weld.
"Peach Emoji"... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
4:35 SquidMaxipad is just jealous of your success.
Please give us a roundup!
Let's be honest - what percentage of people have enough space to buy a gallows for their garage gym. I'd prefer to use that space for something else.
If you have a bad back and can’t do a standard squat this thing is literally as necessary as a squat rack. If you can do standard squats I mostly agree.
Just seems that cable is always the best option
I have Sam's new name and think it's better than the prior. He is Sam the Builder.
Do not buy. Titan rack attached version does not fit my rogue rack unless you put it on the side, guide rod is not long enough so I can’t reach depth, plates do not center with the hole so you’ll end up hitting the platform.
Nice idea but that footprint though
I purchased the Titan belt squat sold it purchased the rogue rhino sold it went back to ssb squats belt squats are overrated to me
Nice story, bruh!
@@CapUnlimited I appreciate you taking the time to share this advice. It’s crazy how caught up one can get in the hype of new equipment. When really the basics are what yield the best results. Did you ever end up going with another type of lower body machine?
@@NPow94 yeah stick to the basics I had to unfollow this channel for a while cause I was just buying dumb shit wasting money and yeah I have a powertec leg press which I don’t use but my wife does and a elite fts leg extension leg curl that is awesome but I don’t even use anymore I just use dumbbells now and Bulgarian split squats and lunges basement Brandon did a review of the elite fts leg extension if you wanna check it out
I never did this kind of stuff when my legs were full oak trees. I wish i could shows pics of an example that I did the basics and they were huge. Looked like an alien head. I sometimes did belt squats at the gym using those long plyo steps stacked and my dip belt with weight on it but I wouldn’t say it was what initially got my legs massive.
What leg exercises gave you the most gains?
How is the range of depth on the stand alone for someone 6'3?
Stupid question, what shoes are you wearing? those are nice!
Someone please tell Coop height, is pronounced heighT.. not heighth. That is all, thanks.
Meh. Enormous for a small home gym like mine. Back squats would have to be impossibly painful for it to be of interest to me.
That’s kind of who this is designed for though. Brian has a bad back and can’t load his spine with a bar so invented this.
Do you even lift bro
It's nice, but as usual with Titan, the depth is inadequate. You were barely breaking parallel, and it was bottomed out. I'm not spending that kind of money on a machine if I can't go ass to grass. The attachment version is dumb. I'm not lugging that enormous thing around every time I want to use it. That alone would make me never use it.
You can adjust loops on the belt to get better depth.
@@jimdango123456
Of the belt squat options, i think squatmax gives you the best depth.
Не пойму, зачем такой спортивный зал, если вы выглядите обыкновенным. Вам, мне кажется хватило бы пары гантелей, а так это просто фетиш.
😂😂😂 he is an equipment reviewer. Not a bodybuilder.
Понятно, надеюсь он не обидеться на мой комментарий.
Am I the only one that thinks those welds are HORRIBLE?
I was thinking the same thing. I purchased a Syedee leg press machine from Walmart's website a couple of months ago. They have a website also. It was cheaper from Walmart. Their machines are made in China. When I got the machine I was wondering how the welds would be. People where commenting how bad the welds were on equipment coming from Titan and others from China. The welds on this thing are, in my opinion perfect. I also purchased their preacher curl machine. The welds are the same. Hey Coop see if you can do some reviews on Syedee, fitness machines.
Just noticed this comment after making the same comment myself.
