My Nextool Mini arrived this morning, I didn't ''need'' it but wanted it and for just the price of a pack of cigs and a beer it was well worth it. I've owned a LM Squirt PS4 now for a year so I have compared the two. Overall fit and finish: Nextool has a bit of a ''grindy/scrapy'' feel opening the scissors but it does have adjustable torx rather than flat rivets so I'd place both equal. However Nextool doesn't have any rough edges so it's better finished than some China made multitools I've had in the past (e.g. True Utility). Despite this I feel the finish on the LM is just a bit better but not by much Compactness/portability: here the LM Squirt wins as it's a fair bit smaller and just a bit lighter, whilst nominally having the same toolset Pliers: Equal size but Nextool has a more rounded larger central part so can better deal with small nuts/bolts etc. However there is a bit of sidewards play in the Nextool...so equal rating Wire cutters: LM Squirt PS4 better, as you pointed out in reviews Knife blade: Nextool is larger and thicker, and ground on both sides, plus backspring is stronger than on Squirt Scissors: tricky as they're both different tools imo the Nextool being more like shears but still they can trim an errant facial hair so Nextool has the edge Phillips SD: definitely better on Nextool, not only as it has more reach but testing on some medium size Phillips screws at home the Nextool is more capable, on some stronger screws the head on my LM Squirt has been a bit mashed both sides of the point and I only use it now for very small screws, not a problem as I almost always carry it with a SAK either with Phillips or can opener which can deal with those File: LM is better since it has serrations on the edge and can cut through wood, plastic and aluminium as a mini hacksaw, although not really adequate for steel. Also both sides on LM seem to be more capable, better machined. Flathead SD: both equal although different sizes, both are on the end of another tool, in the case of the LM the bottle opener which is a pain to use as it's so small. Having said that I always carry an SAK with 2 more flathead options. Openers: Nextool far better not only because the bottle opener works first time unlike the tiny one on the Squirt, but because it has an additional can opener which, whilst being difficult to use, is better than no can opener. Final score: Nextool Mini wins over LM on 4 aspects; LM wins over Nextool on 4 aspects; equal on 2 aspects. The conclusion has to be a draw! The Nextool is a worthy competitor to the LM Squirt, despite costing quite a lot less. These are preliminary findings and I haven't really put the Nextool through it's paces yet but so far so good and it's going in my EDC rotation. A long comment I know but laying out my observations like this is a nice way to put my thoughts in order and give an initial rating.
@@FabioTatibana Thanks for the feedback Fabio. I'd forgotten about this comment which was as you say a review in itself. So 7 months later on I've used the Nextool a fair bit more and I have to say that in terms of capability I prefer it to the Squirt, because the scissors actually cut whereas now the scissors on my Squirt have so much play between both blades that they're almost useless, they won't cut threads, or thin plastic sheet like on a shopping bag, as both just get squeezed between the blades, and they're not capable of cutting thicker stuff either like paracord or cardboard. Also I've used the Phillips SD on the Nextool a fair bit and it's pretty capable. Finally it was getting embarrassing struggling to open beer bottles with the Squirt PS4 in front of other people who offered to open the bottle for me with a lighter, so I started carrying the Nextool more. To put it into perspective I have larger and medium multitools too and both the Mini Flagship and Squirt are for those days I'm not carrying any kind of bag, they sit in the 5th pocket of my jeans, for example yesterday I carried my LM Rebar with my other bike tools. I carry the Nextool on days when it's likely I may have some minor tasks to do, and the Squirt only when it's very unlikely i.e. days off work when I'm doing nothing except going to the shop maybe. The Squirt is now relegated to a kind of ''gentleman's carry'' in conjunction with a slim discreet folder like the Bokerplus Atlas, when I don't want too much stuff in my pockets.
2 nextool mini flagship videos in one week, this is dream coming true! This is probably the best review on TH-cam with all tools thickness and tool usage!
Did you notice Nextool scissors was made with a lost secret? Contemporary: All inside wall of modern blades are manufactured perfectly flat this enable tiny residual material to push away the shear junction progressively every mm of cutting forward, to an eventual material pinching. Ancient secret? The inside wall are not flat but slightly hollow which accommodate some of nylon strands preventing pushing out of two blades to a more aggressive shearing. Go snap shot in page 24:14 to see that slight hollowing. So look up that secret feature in your next tool hunt.
Thin blade scissors having problem of material wrap around because low retention force between blades can be improved by cut and roll action, in rolling clockwise by 5 to 15 degrees through the entire cutting path.
Good in depth review. Now to which one to buy? Hmmmm! Buy all five, and give all of them a good workout. I own a Leatherman Micra. It's very slim enough to fit inside one of my coin wallet compartments. It's so handy to use. This week, I've used the blade to peel and sliced small carrots, used the scissors to cut away loose dags from clothing, and when the split ring attachment to my work's fob gate controller came off, I used the extra small screwdriver to unscrew the iddy-bitty philips screw, reattached the thingamajig, and screw everything back. A three minute job. The micra is definitely my edc. I'm off on a fishing trip this week, and the micra will be with me...including the wife. :)
On the paracord / car belt next tool did best but it seems between the next tool and the splice they had intermittent cutting abilities overall.the next tool beats them all with the most tools and performance.gerber splice comes in second.
The nextool is... amazing for the size. You can clearly see none of the tools are just an “afterthought”. A stabilized philips screwdriver, a non-compromised file, beefy scissors, pliers, a knife that isn’t chisel-ground... but it definitely pushes the bounds of its weight division.
Thank you for your work! I am hesitating between the nextool and the ps4. Is there much difference in the hardness of the steel? The screwdriver, which of the two will bend first? Greetings!
1) Squirt PS4(small &universal; keytool); 2)Nextool(mid-size, universal, good scissors,- better than SOG powerpint); 3)micra(special tool, small, good scissors); 4)gerber(toy for children of 5 - 7 years old)....- my very subjective opinion...

I never realized the nextool was this small, this changes a lot.
It's not regular nextool, it's nextool flagship mini

Visual graphics....excellent!
I work as hospital tech, previously i use gerber dime but recently i find nextool mini has better reach with the screwdriver

Do you think we need scissors to be made with one 50% edge length serrated counting by the hinge?
= ???

The Leatherman Squirt S4 (retired model) scissors are the best.

Nextool by far ........
How about in inches and ounces. Disgusting noise. Metal hardness.
