  • Follow me as I modify my Leatherman Micra by removing the knife blade and replacing with my house key. This was a super fun project and a great starter project for me. I learned a lot and am looking forward to modding another tool in the future! If you've modded a multitool, please toss a comment down below and let me know.

Leatherman should make key blanks that fit their products.

Could you do this for the Leatherman Squirt?

I just dug through my drawer and found my Squirt. The key should fit, you might need to thin it out a little more as the space for the knife is a little tighter. Otherwise, it should be a very similar process to what I showed here. I think the most difficult part with the Squirt will be getting the pin loosened up. If you end up tackling it, let me know! I'd love to hear how it went.

    Nachos! lol
Great video, what a cool idea, I might have to try this.
What's the 11 written in chalk on the wall behind you?

Oh man! Look at that logo. That looks amazing. Some folks at work thought the wall looked a little too much like prison, so I added some tick marks for fun. 😀

Just bought a used ps4 to try this on (because I want the keys on the outside), should be here next week. Wish me luck! Lol

@@TheAmateurHobbyist uhhhh yeahhhhh... about that lol I bought the wrong ones (pinned, not screws) so I guess I won’t be trying it on these models. I guess in all the excitement I overlooked it haha but on the plus side I’ve got a couple early Christmas gifts for someone

Oh bummer! I did some checking and the 1/8" pivot barrels should work as a replacement if you decide to try drilling them out though. I saw some over at USAKnifeworks for pretty cheap.

@@TheAmateurHobbyist I’ve never done it before but I’m certainly not against trying. I bought 2 used ps4’s in great condition that came today and have one more coming that’s beat up pretty good so I’ll wait for that one to come before I attempt it. I bought them all late at night for good prices and apparently wasn’t thinking clearly lol looking back, the only ones that appear removable are newer models @$40/ea and I wasn’t ready to invest that much.
Do you happen to know exactly what I’d need to order? 1/8” pivot barrels, do they offer various lengths or do you just cut/grind to size?

usaknifemaker.com/shop-categories/folding-knife-parts/pivots-pivot-lap.html Looks like they have a variety of lengths. I'm going to order some as well, I've got a PS4 as well. I'd love to pop the blade out and replace with something.

It would be better if micra can pull out other tools from the outside~

Have you flown with your micro now that it’s been modded, I’m debating removing the blade in order to make it tsa compliant

I haven't flown with this, but I have with other non-bladed Leatherman tools without issues.
