@ 15:15 to 15:35 you can hear the compressor undergoing surge testing. That is the compressor blades undergo a compression stall as the space behind the blade forms a vacuum causing a sudden reverse load on the blades. This is caused when the blade spins too fast and pressure waves trail off the blades and overlap the leading edge of the next compressor blade. At this point the next disk of blades have no air to bite into and start trying to drag the front disk of blades back. The compressor stall is not uniform in load across the compressor face but strongly asymmetrical. This can cause the main armature to wobble and half the turbine blades to pull towards the front stator blades. In extreme cases these blades do collide with the stator blades with very catastrophic and explosive effect.
Without any explanation one could think it is normal that the compressor surges so often, this was only done to show that this compressor can withstand many surges without beeing damaged. Most other axial compressors would have been destroyed by the shown surges. In normal operation the surges are prevented by an anti surge control.
This is awesome all the way to the point of surge testing. As a centrifugal chiller mechanic as soon as I heard the first bark of surge my mind was telling me SHUT IT OFF!
That thing probably took ten years to design and built, probably cost 100 million dollars, and they are lifting it with straps that are falling apart, insane. 14:30
Air separation unit 🤘 And i think this is main air compressor driven by a steam turbine amd another booster Air compressor of turbine with HE's currently i am on operatting same machines of linde AG plant reliance. Thnks for sharing knowledgeable content 🙏
Our maximum temperature for AG/AR in operation is currently 320°C. For high-temperature applications, we split the pressure build-up between two compressors. First machine AG/AR for large volume flows and high efficiency plus second machine RG integrally geared compressor for max. temperature where the materials can be changed individually.
@@MAN-Energy-Solutions Thank you for your reply. Do you provide the complete specifications of compressors on request? I may use those specifications of compressor and turbine for my research (basically I use the data in my models).
Make a big barometer so we easily get atmospheric pressure energy 10000000 cubic feet volume. Barometer turned a turbine and make electricity through out the year so we use it in making hydrogen and hydrogen is used as fuel gas
A rocket centrifugal jet platform is not out there. 40 ft diameter 1,000,000 horsepower. 20 rotations/s critical pressure in 1 stage . 2000 pounds/ft air load precision spoke profile
Now that is one huge air compressor. I gather that this is for liquid air generation? What spins the shaft? Looked like perhaps steam or even water turbine.
So how far out is a part when it breaks 6 months? Very strange using a machine that big since there probably is no way to back it up. Multi staging with multiple units just seems smarter. Awesome machine though and I assume it’s production based.
Multiple units working in parallel or series can be difficult to control due to one or more surging. It can be done with modern controls systems but is not so energy efficient. Hence one big machine.

nice, what needs such a huge air demand? The whole factory?
Thank you so much, I was looking for an explaination for this exact phenomenon!

This soundtrack, though... Who knew building a giant compressor could sound as serious as a Tom Clancy movie...

Compressed air supply cost is zero this is innovation.
This is an impressive bit of engineering. I'll have to google air separator. I can't imagine what would need this much air.
That is truly some impressive engineering!
Stunning technology and excellent video. Thanks for uploading this.

This would be great on my Subaru WRX😂
Outstanding 🙌🏽
How much volume air and how much pressure is consumed in this turbine in a day?
Thats a great project 👷
Compressor started up with lots of surge.Be careful with vibration !!!
Will it fit in car when I buy second hand one ?
What is its application?
Mainly ASUs (air separation unit) IIRC
@@1AB09CC3 To produce líquid oxygen, nitrogen and argon. Líquid and gas off course.
What are you doing with the test rig now?
I would donate it to the Deutsches Museum . . .
pedigre does mean something ! and here it is ! like no other nicely done
Air separation unit 🤘

What's the outlet temperature of air?
Is it possible to deliver air at 25 bar and 550degC from the xompressor?

When you think this is another clickbait yet it isn't
4:52 would have to laugh too
SEHR GUT UND RICHTIG 🇩🇪
I will expect many great works as this in future.
Please to keep up these engineering works.
( a secondary stator assembly amidship would improve volumetric effecency.)
Very impressive.
So that's where the hurricanes are coming from! LOL
Without any information explaining what this is actually for, one may wonder what the fuck this is for.
Wonderful German Engineering.
Are the the best.
Compressor instaled in a plant of air separation.
15:25 what is it?
Whooshing sound. Indicates surging condition.
I wonder what kind of horsepower you could get whith this inside a twingo...
Price this device

5:57 Look at that. Is that thing gorgeous or what?
wonderful....
Excellent!
im gonna put this in my civic

I think it's oscillating pressure, maybe to get peak pressure level on that machine. Only for test run, I think.
Josh Muhl sure thats pumping?
Do you know which music is used in this movie?
Sounds like a Danish group called Bliss also they have a fantastic dynamic recording quality.
Purpose?
very impressive great piece of engineering. But what are this bursts from the testing?
Those bursts of sound are from the effects of surging. Due to the relationship of mass flow parememter and pressure ratio.
I heard the surge sound for the unit, maybe during commissioning to check the region for the operating point and surge line.
👍👍👍 Deutschland Deutschland über alles 👍👍👍
Oh.Air end Screw too big.It is great 👍👍👍👍👍
我❤️德国设备!

ok well but engine room weather not always support

Wow!!!
I can build that with a sledge hammer and cuttin torch easy
Pffft call that a compressor?
in brasil would not leave for less than a trillion dollars of dung parents kkkkk

Built like a brick shit house!
Great video except for the shitty music.
DziRi
what a waste XD
