      slightly tapping tight fitting parts to assemble them is perhaps something you would thing inprecise, but it demands a good amount of eye-hand coordination or as they say, a precice hand. Laugh all you want, but you clearly dosn't work in industrial production where tight fits are a daily occurrance:) I do, and I know that a deadblow mallet is a precision tool in the right hands.

    It should be noted that some automotive turbochargers spin up to 250,000-300,000 rpm. Cars obviously use a turbocharger that’s a lot smaller, but it’s hard to believe that they spin so fast.

      A C yeah of course automotive turbos are small... they have to fit under the hood of a car. As such they move a lot less air. Some of those big industrial/marine engine turbochargers move thousands and thousands of CFM (cubic feet of air/minute). Compare that to your average 2.0L engine with a normal sized turbocharger that can move 360-600 CFM.

      They do tho? I bet garret makes better turbos for street cars than this company😂 they each have their field of expertise. This part of the Swedish government just makes it for ships so they have the engineering down for these specs just like garret and precision have for gas/diesel. Also they get to use 40+turbos on one engine which probably means boost is separate over all turbos. In street setup you have on or two turbos doing all the work. You must not live the boosted life. You must live the watch street racing on the internet life😂

      I reacted to that too. That's a poor and incorrect explanation of why a turbocharger is used. The fuel burns just as good in a naturally aspirated engine. The thing with a turbo is that you can put in more fuel and get more power without increasing the size of the engine.

    There is nothing mentioned of the cooling of the exhaust gas after the turbine. That cooling is what decreases the volume of the gas and produces draft and therefor increasing speed of the exhaust gas traveling through the turbine. Without the cooling, the turbine would be picking up its power and speed from the engine itself and therefore lowering its total power output. the old Superchargers used to be belt-driven from the crankshaft and pumped air into the motor. The turbochargers were more sufficient way to build up pressure of air into the engine by lowering the heat of the exhaust gas and therefore not "steeling" power from the engine.

      @@theflyingBuSsArD The reason engine-builders took the input for the air charging from the crankshaft was because its rotation was taken direct from the engine output. By harvesting the exhaust gas, they as well new that by simply plugging the turbine to the outlet they would only be adding to the resistance of the gas leaving the engine. The idea is simply to use the laws of thermodynamics that by lowering the heat in a gas you lower its volume. By putting a water-cooled condenser on the 'reture' side of the turbine ( lo pressure side) you "shrink" the volume of the the exhaust gas enough to make a self propelled draft trough the turbine. ( I think this law is named after Avogadros but I am not sure though.) Because the cooling of the gas costs you less energy but driving water through a condenser, the total effect on the motors output will not be decreased. Instead you will gain the propellant from simply cooling the exhaust gas. You can make a simple experiment by taking a plastic bottle from a cola drink, empty it and put it under a hot running water for some minutes, then screw the cap on and put the bottle under cold running water. You will see it shrink from the forces of the pressure outside the bottle. I know most people think that a big engine turbine is simply driven by the force of the gas leaving the engine but that would always add to the work the motor is producing. I hope this explanation can explain how this works. I remember a teacher in the marine engineering school explaining this by saying that it was enough for the gas to shrink about two to three percent to gain the total effect of not "steeling" energy from the engine. These small numbers add up in the total run of a big engine.

      @@TheNetkrot The method described by you was used for steam engines/turbines where exhaust steam was condensed back into fluid and pumped back to the boiler (closed loop). Can't exactly imagine it to work in system where exhaust side is connected to atmospheric pressure. In cars and motocycles about the same effect is achieved by using resonators.
      Cooling intake air is beneficial though (lower temperature, higher density, ie. more air), thats why intercoolers are there.

      @@SeersantLoom What you are describing is a whole different system, the closed loop in steam turbines ... Its a whole different thing and has nothing to do with the turbine blower on a diesel engine. The steam in steam turbines is condensed for the purpose of using it in a lower heat/pressure stage in Two or three Stage Steam Turbine. The water is used again through the cycle to preserve the calories (heat) in the water. This is partly done, but in most cases in geothermal turbines, the steam is transferred through different pressure condensers (dryers) to be sent through a lower pressure turbine and then dumped ( in Iceland at least). This is in no way to be confused with blowers on diesel engines. I have run several Brown Boveri turbines on big diesel engines where this system was used, the exhaust gas being lowered in temperature (on the low pressure side of the turbine). For the purpose of lowering its 'volume' just to get the increase in draft through the turbine. This is a system developed by MAN and Burmeister & Wain Denmark, for the sole reason of getting more from the exhaust gas then the pressure the engine was delivering. I used to run this for years on big trawlers back in the 90' and it was fuel efficient. I remember that this was all connected with the main alarm of the engine in such a way that if the pressure drooped on the heat transfer the engine shut down. ( I know I used the wrong word "condensed" in my other text and that must have confused you SeersantLoom )

    60 billion revolutions total... @ 18k revolutions per second, equals 3.3 million seconds. 41 days of constant turning at full throttle? That;s it?
    They don't go full throttle all the time, but still. Something seems weird.

      Thats kinda crazy expensive, I paid a little less for my Precision Turbo 76/75, and thats American made with a billet wheel, ceramic bearings, race cover, etc.
