I’ve enjoyed the two of you since I found this channel about 2 years ago. Your quilt patterns are easy for me but u enjoy the two you and your relationship between you! The time of your videos are irrelevant to me but I’m glad you are working together again!
In the past 2 weeks I have made 2 city lights and 4 Garden path pieced tops. They are just so simple and beautiful once completed. Ive had the book since last year and just now giving these two patterns a try. I am new quilter with no knowledge of the blocks and city lights seemed very intimating at first glance but once I started sewing it was so simple for this beginner to understand and get it right…
I love how much you have improved the video in a year. Good job! But it is still fun to go back and watch these older ones because nothing really changes in the quilts.
Except the fabrics.
I just finished my 7th 3-yd quilt, so although I’m familiar with you & your videos this is the first time I watched THIS video. It’s so cool to see how you’ve developed in 2 years since this video! And I’m so glad Fran is back! Love the quilts, love the show, and especially love the “crew”! Thanks for sharing your talents (and passion) with us.

Is It possible to know how good of a quality a cotton material is, one that won’t wrinkle when washed? My mother made each of our children a quilt top back in 1984. It was necessary to wash each of them (adding 1 cup of vinegar) because of mothballs that had been put in the box they were stored in. After washing each quilt top they smelled much better...but the frayed edges have been a tackle to deal with. I appreciate your help, I’d rather have wrinkle-free cotton.
Hi Verita, There are many reasons the cotton might wrinkle. First, cotton is not naturally wrinkle free.
The more surface quilting you have on the finished tops, the less obvious wrinkling is. I personally like the look of the slight pucker that occurs in a laundered quilt when high quality fabrics are used to make the quilt top.
Pre-washing fabrics cuts down on the amount of pucker you might experience when laundering. Launder fabrics before you make the quilt. First overcast or serge the raw edges. Wash on gentle with mild detergent. Dry on gentle. Press fabric with a good sizing like Mary Ellen's Best Press before you cut. Hope that helps! Donna
Thx for your help! What is ‘Mary Ellen’s Best Press’? On the quilt top it’s self, finishing the raw edges is impossible because some of the seams are pressed open, others are sewn to the right or to the left. I don’t claim to be a very knowledgeable quilter, but errors were made...by mom. All I can do is trim off the frayed threads and iron out the quilt top. With the majority of people having queen or king size beds these days, these quilts (which are twin size) may work best as a couch snuggle blanket. Thx again!

Fat quarters are my weakness. Lucy & Ethel shopped for hats, I shop for fat quarters. And yardage, At 70, I look at all my yarn and know I have to get busy using my fabric up.
