I wish there was a top hat in the game. I'll be the Freshest Dapper little Squiddy.
Quick Respawn was useful in the original for players who were extremely aggressive in Ranked matches and got a lot of kills but they themselves died a lot as well. It allowed them to stay in the match more of the match. Now, since it only activates if you _dont_ get a kill, it is literally trash.
Same thing with Cold-Blooded, since hardly anybody uses the point sensor sub and echolocator is non-existent it lost most use. I would see a lot of aggressive players with N-Zap '85s in Splatoon, especially on ranked, and since there were usually good and filled up their special gauge really quick they would use their special and have a point sensor on everyone on my team. So forth having Cold-Blooded was useful as an N-Zap '85 user also. I could use my echolocator and track their team, but when they did the same to me I didn't have to worry as much about them hunting me down. Same thing with when I splatted somebody, usually snipers, that were using a shirt with haunt. It was very good for ranked modes, I didn't use it as much for turf war though.
Captain Sheepyz Well, it was OP. But they made the ninja jump ability, or whatever it's called, useless, because it only hides it to people far away. Like, what's that good for? Chargers on Moray? That's it. But I guess that ability was kinda OP too. Also what ShakingMyHead said.

There's actually a very fast way to get ability chunks. Just find out what clothing company gives what ability the most with their gear, find atleast 1 of them to use and then level it up to max and use super sea snails to reroll them. Everytime you reroll, you'll get the ability chunks of the slots that were just there. So you could grind one ability in a matter of minutes
Yeah but the problem now that splatfests are over is that sea snails are a pain to get, since levelling up can take a lot of time. I personally have quite a few snails from the fests, but getting one every 600000000000 matches is a bit huuumm
@@Arya-db3yd Obviously now this isn't gonna be much help. I wrote this comment when Splatfests were still going on and now the only way to get Super Sea Snails is to level up. This guy has some important lessons, but he is missing some CRUCIAL details. For example, he states that Special Saver and Quick Respawn are bad because they are tied to the idea that you have to die for them to be useful. Dying is INEVITABLE in the game. Nobody is unkillable. Good players recognize this and try to minimize the consequences of dying. In splatoon 1, Quick Respawn was STACKED by some pro players because it meant that dying was almost no consequence. Then he didn't state the REAL reason you shouldn't use Quick Respawn: It ONLY works in Splatoon 2 if you get NO kills on that life. So dying is inevitable, but not killing is whats not acceptable. Again, his lessons are good, but he seems to be uninformed on the topics he is trying to teach.
I agree. In Splatoon 1 I personally used and still use one or sometimes even two Quick Respawn on a piece of gear so when I am splatted there is little consequence. I don't use special saver as much only because it isn't on most of my gear, but it did help a lot in Splatoon 1 when it was. I personally was upset knowing that Quick Respawn only has an useful effect if you are splatted with out splatting anyone. And even though he did forget to mention why Quick Respawn isn't as effective in Splatoon 2, his videos still help out a lot of newer players. In Splatoon 2 these two abilities are sort- of tied to the idea that you have to be splatted for them to be really useful. Though the way he explained the two abilities wasn't the best and would have been better, probably, if he stated that his reasoning involved that they are only very effective if you happen to not get a splat on that life. It is absurd to say that you won't get splatted. Pro players that play competitively still get splatted.
Thats because I don't have a whole lot to say about it. Special Saver always seemed a little useless to me, but I can see why it might be an acceptable idea to run in Splatoon 1 with the prevalence of Quick Respawn. I'm not even blaming him for his explanation of Special Saver. I just mentioned it because he lumped it's reason together with Quick Respawn, and Quick Respawn has it's other entirely different and more prevalent reason to be deemed useless.
I agree as well. Splatoon is a fast paced game. So much can happen while you are waiting to respawn even though the spawn time are pretty quick compared to other shooters. Time waiting to respawn really handicaps a four squid squad. It is not like Battlefield where you are 1 of 32 and your death goes unnoticed. I have had many of comebacks because we have kept the enemy in the respawn process, not necessary because we were the better team.
+Joey Yee You CAN'T "throw in haunt" if you're already using ninjasquid since these two abilities are exclusively tied to the shirt-type gear only. You must only pick one or the other, but not both at the same time.
Last Ditch Effort ability actually has extra usage in ranked. In Turf War, it does exactly what it is described to be, in that it increases ink efficiency in the last 30 seconds of a match. However, in Ranked, there is a small addition. Not only does it increase ink efficiency in the last 30 seconds, but it lasts all the way through overtime. AND, if you ever become 30 points from losing (opponent has only 30 left in splatzone, 30 units of measure from winning in tower, or has brought the Rainmaker within 30 of your goal), it actually activates then as well even if it's within the first minute of the match. It isn't ideal to be losing so quickly in a match, but if it comes to it, you gain a huge amount of power to make your comeback with.
A good strategy is to use the splatfest tee to get one ability and scrub it every time you get ONE ability on it. It costs more but it's faster than getting all 3 since the first ability only takes 4,000 XP while 2 and 3 take 8,000 and 12,000 XP to acquire an ability
Drill Knight76 I didn't even know you could in the first game. But it doesn't matter in the first game cause there's no ability chunks in the first game.

When I first got gear with Cold Blooded, I thought "Oh, this is gonna be useful". There's no difference. I literally cannot see a difference. Completely useless.
DingusIsLost I feel like cold blooded is more of a safety net. If doesn’t give a straight up benefit but when you are involved in stopping pushes it helps a lot because people just bombard you with all sorts of crud.
That one person that doesn’t care about abilities and goes in blind... And... That one kid who has all of one ability/sub-ability on *ALL OF THEIR GEAR* There you go, my two Splatoon 2 pet peeves...
@sweeze actually, what i really hate is the ones who use the carbon with splat bombs, with sub power up and sub saver... *my friend did that, and i kept dying to splat bombs*
I tend to use Ninja Squid and have another piece of gear devoted to Swim Speed up to negate the speed decrease caused by Ninja Squid. I’m pretty much infatuated with Ninja Squid since it works in any situation, be it running away from a sniper/ as a sniper or sneaking up on opponents.
So i don't have splatoon 2, but I definitely want to get it so i am already researching about the game. this was a very informative video but I still have one question, because if I understand this right, then you will get the splatfest t-shirt thingy for free, and you can use it only while the splatfest,is that right ?
Special saver is quite handy even later on. If your teammates aren’t actually playing, then you’ll definitely get splatted a LOT. But your specials can save the game for you, so special saver is SUPER handy for situations like that (which happens a lot for me)
Here is a good thing to do if you got the game after splatfest. Play through games with 4 rows (max rewards) so, play until you have 20,000 coins and full slots. Then scrub and repeat this. You can also use crusty Shawn’s drinks to get certain ones. You will get random abilities, but you still have a lot of slot selections. Tell me how it went when you are done!
Something I've been trying out with quick super jump is to use at least 1 main of it when you're using a weapon with Splashdown. Keep an eye on your map for when your allies are in trouble when you have your super. It allows you to super jump to them faster bringing attention to you and then you use your special as you come down. If someone is watching your spot then they will pretty much die. Gotten multiple 2 and 3 pieces this way. A gimmick but it is a fun way to run quick super jump.
how is this guy turning so fast, from right to left and a complete 180% and 360% Could u do a video gamestop on motion controls, aiming, camera control and turning quickly cheers. What is your sensitivity settings.
some people press right stick right and turn right with motion controls to turn quickly but it throws of my aim terribly and I doesn't feel natural at all. I only use motion controls to look up and down, I havn't mastered quick turns or aiming. I feel at a distinct disadvantage compared to better players and don't know how to improve.
Alex Keehn well turning really quickly although it can also throw off your aim is pressing Y after you turn your controller so it recalibrates to that degree instantly
I really liked this series and would definitely like to see a more expanded take on it. There are so many more topics that could be covered like game mode strategies, map specific tips and tricks, tips for salmon run etc. But otherwise, this was a good overview of some of the basic fundamentals.
Quick Respawn is one of the best abilities in the game due to the fact that it allows you to play way more agressive, even the best players in X rank use tons of Quick Respawn so they can charge in constantly
Stealth swim is always a great shout and stealth super-jump is great for Tower Defense and Rainmaker. Also do agree quick respawn is really good for Ranked.
Quick super jump can be an amazing ability to use if you stack enough of it and get good at super-jumping out of danger. In the last game, I was able to use quick super jump to escape situations where I would have died without the ability, and I was able to just jump back in almost immediately. I imagine it's even better in the new game, now that quick-respawn and stealth just aren't as good as they used to be.
ZimiTros I myself am team ketchup and almost all the friends I have are team ketchup (I know 30+ people on team ketchup and we're all mostly in Europe)
My gear I like the style of, and I like having almost perfect gear. So I actually got a perfect roll on my shirt full of cold-blooded and haunt, and it actually is useful, next is my skull mask.I love the special saver on it, and I got 2 special power up and yeah a random thing I don't remember...next to my shoes! I use random shoes. I got 2 ink recovery and a run speed up, I just think my gear is good with any weapon I use, not just certain weapons.
This is awesome! I just got this game for Christmas and after some fooling around really want to be a major competitive component to any team I join. I feel this is really helpful and has gotten my confidence up. Thanks.
you can also use super sea snails to re-roll slots, which means pretty much re-randomize and get new sub abilities and get the original chunks when you re-roll. so if you have a lot of leftover super sea snails, (like me) use the to re-roll and get even more ability chunks
this is actually really helpful because i use styles that to me would make sense rather than abilities (which i know i should be focused on the abilities more). im gonna start using the spatfest shirt method now that youve mentioned it, so thanks a lot!!
Quick question, will the drink tickets effect the chances when you use sea snails to re-roll? Or do the drinks only effect the chances when you've leveled gear?
your forgetting one other thing in the campaign mode once you max out your all of your gear with the power eggs there will be a new option for you "the ability to trade Power eggs for Drink tickets" and combing the "Splat fest tee" option you mentioned in the video you'll stack up more of the same ability MUCH fast then your method
Actually Crusty Sean sells drinks to raise your chances of the ability drink you drink. He sells the food to multiply by half, or double the money you earn and your level up points.
The one thing that is crucial to point out is the fact that melee type weapons such as brushes and even the luna blaster to some degree by nature die more frequently per match, thus justifying quick super jump, quick respawn, etc...
While i haven't tested it personally outfitting yourself with the assumption of being splatted might actually work for turf war. Consider a build where you choose not to fight at all just run away and ink up all the area you can before splatting and quickly popping right back. Use a wep with ink storm... that actually might be viable.
Another way to quickly farm a certain "chunk" is if you already have the gear from Salmon Run with only one sub-ability, you can choose to get 3x that same sub-ability after another round of Salmon Run when you choose not to swap gear but to have chunks instead...so maybe you don't want to level up your Salmon Run gear so much...
Actually, the Quick Super Jump Ability isn't as useless as one might think. It isn't until you actually use the ability that you realize just how much setup the Super Jump requires without it. The difference really is like night and day. But its true strength lies with those who use the Tenta Missile Special Weapon. Since (arguably) the best strategy with the Tenta Missiles is to retreat to your Spawn Point, in order to widen your target zone and potentially attack as many enemies as possible (my personal average is three, but I can often get all four, depending on which stage I'm fighting on), Quick Super Jump is perfect for making a fast getaway (especially if you find yourself in an enemy's sights, right after you've charged up). And once you've fired your Tenta Missile payload, you can then use the speedy benefits of QSJ to advance to an ally and get yourself right back into the fighting, while the Tenta Missiles provide valuable cover fire, reducing your chances of getting picked off by an enemy who just so happened to be standing right where you're going to land. A circumstantial benefit, perhaps, and again, not ideal for EVERY weapon. But QSJ CAN prove its worth.
It's faster to farm chunks if you keep scrubbing the first ability, rather than grinding all 3 out. First ability is 4000p, 2nd takes 8k, and so on. It costs more coin, but you'll make 2000 easily for each chunk.
Old comment but if you have art on display and someone clicks Y when viewing it rating it fresh you get a +3000 fresh bonus in your next turf war match.
maybe the next lesson could be about salmon run? the do's and don'ts, roles with each weapon, how to take the bosses out quickly, the gear you can get etc.
I like a combo of quick super jump and 3 special power up. The quick super jump takes me back to spawn and the special up helps with Tenta missles which targets every enemy
Bombdefense reduces also damage from specials and if u have 1 main and 1 sub of bomb defense while u using inkarmor 1 burst bomb wont "kill"the ink armor bomb defense is really guud ^^
Not sure if you're still taking questions or not, but I'll post this here anyways: Is there any specific ability builds you would recommend for a sniper? I frequently use the Splatterscope, Splat Charger and E-Liter 4K, but I'm not quite sure what would be an ideal set. Currently I just try to use as much Ink Saver and Ink Recovery as I can, and then whatever extra abilities I feel like at the time/depending on the mode. (I usually add in Ninja Squid and a few swim/run speeds for quick escapes if needed)
Special saver works well with the range blaster, since it’s already difficult to get them with their low speed and inking potential, so you keep your charge and can regain it quick if splatted Otherwise, it’s unnecessary since you already build it so quickly
Special Saver is one of the best ones you could possibly have because it means you don't lose as much charge when you get KO'd. Might be useless for someone who's actually good at the game and almost never gets KO'd, but for someone like me who is not good at shooters and gets KO'd a lot, combining it with Special Charge Up means I can rely on my special a little more, because it's more reliable. Cold-Blooded is like a counter to the two I mentioned above - it increases respawn time for players you KO, and directly counters their charge saving boost. If you KO a player while having Cold-Blooded, and they don't have any Special Charge upgrades, then they're gonna have a hard time using their specials.
It only takes more than 10 ability chunks to set your gear if you already have one or two of the same sub-perk on the gear. I.E. to put all ink-saver mains on my FA-01s it'll be 60 chunks, but if I want all different ones it'll only be 30 chunks (10 per perk)
I wonder why everyone I know doesn't use Ninja squid. It's useful the sneak up on people to get some splats, and watching the people fail to find you and try to splat you
I'm not 100% sure but I think that the cold blooded skill might also decrease thermal ink tracking time and tentamissiles tracking time (which I think you forgot to include in the video) not just the ink mine and point sensor. However that doesn't change my opinion that it is one of the worst skills still. My favorite skills are ink saver, thermal ink, and ink resistance (for jet squelcher but I don't know about other weapons).
6:46 This isn't true. Each UNIQUE piece costs 10 pieces, and if there is a duplicate piece on the set clothing it rises to 10+ pieces. Ex: A shirt with X main ability and main weapon saver ability will cost 10 pieces to get ANY ABILITY BESIDES main weapon saver, while costing 20 for another main weapon saver. The main unchangeable ability is not affected by this, however.
I main the octoshot replica without the special because I'm objectively worse with the inkjet than a gun and bombs in every way. My abilities are ink saver sub, ink resist up and drop roller for main abilities and I'm trying to get ink saver main on my headgear as an ink saver piece of gear, swim speed up on my clothes as a movement piece of gear and is quick super jump good with drop roller?
what i've found is that with certain abilities unless you stack all in on something like walk speed its not worth it, other than on things like ink regen up. Having 3 big bubbles of ink regen is already too much XD
This may be a weird/dumb question, but if you know you'll only use one weapon and one gear set up ever, would it be a good idea to spread out abilities one on each piece of gear so the total cost is 30 chunks as opposed to 60 (per 3 abilities)?
The main selling point of using Quick Super Jump is that it takes off faster. I've been using 2 mains to jump away to safety and avoid the respawn penalty. That to me is the closest I'll get to splatoon 1's quick respawn u-u
You described the amount of chunks it takes to add abilities in a misleading way. Every slot will only take 10 chunks as long as they are different abilities. If you add the same ability three times on the same piece of gear, that's when it will take 10, then 20, then 30 chunks.
what if you go 1 of ink saver on each sub part of a clothing, then 1 of special power and a third, will it still cost 60 chunks in all for the clothing
I think it's worth having 1 piece off gear having only quick respawn because if you die you always want to be able to get back in there and fight for your team
Do you have a favourite loadout for your inkling?

@sweeze actually, what i really hate is the ones who use the carbon with splat bombs, with sub power up and sub saver... *my friend did that, and i kept dying to splat bombs*
@sweeze I think it was the deco with the auto bombs and splat bomb rush
Quick super jump is good to have on shoes with stealth jump because that ability causes super jumps to take longer
Bucket Bucket stealth jump in general just isn't that good, because players near you can still see the arrow
I tend to use Ninja Squid and have another piece of gear devoted to Swim Speed up to negate the speed decrease caused by Ninja Squid. I’m pretty much infatuated with Ninja Squid since it works in any situation, be it running away from a sniper/ as a sniper or sneaking up on opponents.
ninja squid plus dualies = GG
Pokéfan 744 people can still see you
I have run speed up drop roller and ninja squid its perfect 💯✨ wots ur fc
iirc ninja squid doesnt decrease your speed anymore
You forgot tenacity.
Derpyreti It doesn't exist anymore. and it hurts me
actually it does still exist. I have it on my Helmet.
Of course Tenacity still exists. Why do you think it doesn't?
He also forgot Comeback and the Splatfest Tee exclusive Ability Doubler.
V-Man 776 Its not exclusive there are few who got the ability from annies shop
So i don't have splatoon 2, but I definitely want to get it so i am already researching about the game. this was a very informative video but I still have one question, because if I understand this right, then you will get the splatfest t-shirt thingy for free, and you can use it only while the splatfest,is that right ?
Hab ich Vergessen You can get the Splatfest tee a week before the Splatfest.
Hab ich Vergessen the splatfest shirt is free, but when the splatfest is over it will be taken away
Special saver is quite handy even later on. If your teammates aren’t actually playing, then you’ll definitely get splatted a LOT. But your specials can save the game for you, so special saver is SUPER handy for situations like that (which happens a lot for me)
Wish these videos were weekly. You've done a fantastic job with this series. 👍 💯
It probably speaks to how much I die, but I really like to have Special Saver, I've found it really handy even if I die a couple of times in a match.
You are certainly not cooked and you're off the hook! Love watching a good player.
Alex Keehn just turn analog sensitivity up and use motion and analog for 180's.
some people press right stick right and turn right with motion controls to turn quickly but it throws of my aim terribly and I doesn't feel natural at all.
Alex Keehn start moving in another direction to turn your inkling's head and hit y to reset camera for a fast but rough turn
Use both Motion and Sticks to do 180s. DUDE has tutorials on high-level splatoon stuff, so check him out
I really liked this series and would definitely like to see a more expanded take on it. There are so many more topics that could be covered like game mode strategies, map specific tips and tricks, tips for salmon run etc. But otherwise, this was a good overview of some of the basic fundamentals.
"shoes wisely..." I actually laughed, not gonna lie.
Quick Respawn is one of the best abilities in the game due to the fact that it allows you to play way more agressive, even the best players in X rank use tons of Quick Respawn so they can charge in constantly
Not in Splatoon 2
Great tips, man! Amazing guide :)
thanks! i appreciate the kind words.
Yass. Another Team Mayo. Looks like we're gonna be the underdogs.
In the US? Probably. Not in Europe, though. Everyone's on Team Mayo here!
Showmeyomoves! I have one friend on Mayo. The other Nine, and myself, are on ketchup. You sure about mayos European superiority?
ZimiTros
I myself am team ketchup and almost all the friends I have are team ketchup
(I know 30+ people on team ketchup and we're all mostly in Europe)
Porkchop and the Powerlifter I joined team mayo on a whim and it's the best thing to ever happen to me
Haha i still think Pearls team will always be the underdog cuz Marina is hot.
I personally think cold blooded is very situational and rather useless.
Also. This month the super bonus for salmon run is ability chunks. So do salmon run and get the 600 and 1200 point rewards of you can.
this is actually really helpful because i use styles that to me would make sense rather than abilities (which i know i should be focused on the abilities more). im gonna start using the spatfest shirt method now that youve mentioned it, so thanks a lot!!
Some will agree some won't with me but I actually don't care about the slots if it looks good on my Inkling Imma use it
Quick question, will the drink tickets effect the chances when you use sea snails to re-roll? Or do the drinks only effect the chances when you've leveled gear?
Made In Heaven huh... I'm actually curious about this, also.
Since it is an old video you might know by now but still:
No. It does only affect leveled, and does not affect rerolled abilities
The FBI Well it does...I guess?? It’s only with the gear brand the ability is common with.
@@supercullen0047 alright, I just checked it, my bad
Last time I checked about this it never affected it, at least that is what I read
You are now my favorite splatoon teacher.
3:51 I think you may have been playing with me! I remember being in a match with a really good mini splatling
your forgetting one other thing in the campaign mode once you max out your all of your gear with the power eggs there will be a new option for you "the ability to trade Power eggs for Drink tickets" and combing the "Splat fest tee" option you mentioned in the video you'll stack up more of the same ability MUCH fast then your method
Glad to see you using motion controls but one tip don't use x to do 180 turns slight lag in the turn can ruin fights but nice gameplay and good vid
This was SUCH a good video it’s kind of crazy that I didn’t even see Murch until this video lol
While i haven't tested it personally outfitting yourself with the assumption of being splatted might actually work for turf war.
Consider a build where you choose not to fight at all just run away and ink up all the area you can before splatting and quickly popping right back. Use a wep with ink storm... that actually might be viable.
This is great. I'm new to the game. This confirmed some stuff I'd suspected and taught me about some abilities I didn't know. Thanks!
3:30 you just changed how i move through that level now. thank you. Nice video too.
Happy Anniversary Splatoon!!
12 swift swims ftw
12 rich run ftw
quick super jump is alright for ranked because you get killed quite a bit in ranked and you can superjump quicker to splatzones, rainmaker and tower
Great vid! This video really help me improve in getting chunks!
Does this work on the splatfest tee replica?
It's faster to farm chunks if you keep scrubbing the first ability, rather than grinding all 3 out. First ability is 4000p, 2nd takes 8k, and so on. It costs more coin, but you'll make 2000 easily for each chunk.
I like tinted shades (last ditch effort), Negative longcuff sweater (ninja squid), and anything with that one squid jump roll thing
freshness bonus +3000 how'd u get that.?
Old comment but if you have art on display and someone clicks Y when viewing it rating it fresh you get a +3000 fresh bonus in your next turf war match.
That's wrong. It's whenever a weapon's freshness rating hits 5, 10 or 15
Well considering the final fest happened last week, I'm screwed.
Even if there was no more splatfests, you’ll still get the splatfest Tee no matter what
maybe the next lesson could be about salmon run? the do's and don'ts, roles with each weapon, how to take the bosses out quickly, the gear you can get etc.
I like a combo of quick super jump and 3 special power up. The quick super jump takes me back to spawn and the special up helps with Tenta missles which targets every enemy
Thanks for all three. And I'm amazed you can even play with that charger :P
Sparkle Chord Tenacity.
“As you get better at the game” ah you overestimate my mediocre abilities
Go Mayo! I'll be your friend.
I'm new to Splatoon so this is very helpful.
Special saver works well with the range blaster, since it’s already difficult to get them with their low speed and inking potential, so you keep your charge and can regain it quick if splatted
Otherwise, it’s unnecessary since you already build it so quickly
Thank you! This helped a lot.
So when we can't do Splatfest anymore we're screwed?
Good to know
Finally a fellow Team Mayo!
That splatfest tee tip was fresh 🐙
Thanks this series really helped
Really nice explained ! Thank you !
Quick super jump could be used for setting up a Splatdown by a nearby ally from the sky to catch opponents by surprise
my perfect gear set is the pilot goggles, black inky rider, and the octoling boots. it looks so good.
Ninja squid is a must-have powerup for me! *Especially with swim speed*. It means i can quickly swim away undetected by ANYONE!
Is it better to scrub as soon as you get an ability on splatfest tee?
what i've found is that with certain abilities unless you stack all in on something like walk speed its not worth it, other than on things like ink regen up.
One thing that could be good is to have a piece of gear with Tenacity along with three special charge up subs.
The main selling point of using Quick Super Jump is that it takes off faster. I've been using 2 mains to jump away to safety and avoid the respawn penalty. That to me is the closest I'll get to splatoon 1's quick respawn u-u
You forgot comeback ability for the headwear special
You described the amount of chunks it takes to add abilities in a misleading way. Every slot will only take 10 chunks as long as they are different abilities. If you add the same ability three times on the same piece of gear, that's when it will take 10, then 20, then 30 chunks.
Thank you so much! You helped me!
Quick Superjump x Splashdown
You get splated a good amount no matter how long you have been playing my dude, as you play so do others you get better but so do others
what if you go 1 of ink saver on each sub part of a clothing, then 1 of special power and a third, will it still cost 60 chunks in all for the clothing
I think it's worth having 1 piece off gear having only quick respawn because if you die you always want to be able to get back in there and fight for your team
