    My 86 2M6 (5-speed standard) only has 5,1xx miles on it. Original everything, not restored. It only had 632 miles on it when I bought it from a collector. True story. :-) Watch those "in the world" claims.

      right , it's not as if salesmen ever you hyperbole to "sell" a car. besides he said maybe

      Either yours had a new transmission installed or it’s a very, VERY late 86 model because the Getrag 5-speed was introduced in the 1987 model. The four cylinder model had a 5-speed in 1986 but that was an Isuzu-produced unit and was not used in the V6 model.

    I understand what your saying. I have owned 1, I bought a 87 fiero in 1992, it had just over 70,000 miles on it and I had it in the shop at least a dozen times in the 2 years I owned it. At the time, I talked to several fiero owners and 80% said they didn't like the reliability of them. BUT, That car was a BLAST to drive! I wont knock them for that! VERY fun car!

    I've heard that this car was originally designed by John DeLorean. He was planning the car that would later become the DMC-12. When GM fired DeLorean, they locked him out of his office where the plans for this car were. Years later Pontiac took the plans and created the Fiero. Supposedly when GM execs found out where the idea for this car really came from they killed it off because GM was still holding a grudge against DeLorean. Damn shame because not only was this an awesome car, what Pontiac had planned for 1989 was gonna be even better.

    • @zzzhuh
      @zzzhuh 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure about John being behind this car. Sure, the Delorean has a similar GT styling but they were designed by two different people. John went with a steel frame where as this was plastic. It would make sense tho, considering both were designed to stay on the road without rusting, and both have a rear or mid engine layout..

      No the sell of Corvettes were down because people were buying theses instead they complained and the fiero was done.Some say in secret that GM bought the DMC12 dyes and got rid of them funny how then the fiero came out all of a sudden with the car after Delorean was gone.My husband and I had a DMC but I would take a Fiero over one of them if I had too do it all over with.

    • @jamesfalardeau3886
      @jamesfalardeau3886 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is total BS. I watched my Dad lay out that car on Christmas break in our drafting room in our house. He hated DeLorean as a poser windbag. The DMC was a horrible heavy car, underpowered with poor handling. Dad designed a fast nimble car that GM wrecked by only letting him use a Chevette suspension and the old iron duke engine. Where do you get this total stupid shit from? I was with him in the wind tunnel testing in CA.

    There's about a dozen Fieros with lower mileage, but most of them you couldn't just take out and drive because they still have all the original fluids and rubber parts on them.

    I just bought a 1987 Fiero GT off a Marine, it needs a bit of cosmetic work (needs some trim and the quarter glass panels) and the paint is faded in a number of spots. Interior could use some work. And I had to replace the distributor cap and flush out the tank. Plus the suspension sounds like it needs to be replaced
    BUT for $900, this is one hell of a project car! Plus even in her current state, she turns heads and impresses!

    Hey man love your video on this old girl here.. Yes even though the early models caught fire due to header leaks the later versions like the 1987-to 1988 were were just like you said Amazing. Tropical GM i don't know why they killed the rest of the new breeds of fiero's and it all just ended there.. For my self Love fiero's those little fast cars kind of rare now....thanks the GM but any ways love the video keep posting new one when you can.

    @patwregan Fieros actually have little plastic, when compared to the fiero's actual weight. The fiero has around 175-225lbs of various body panels on it, depending on trim. The fiero weighs between 2550 and 2850lbs, again depending on trim. The panels are purely cosmetic and carry no load, and are bolted to a 650lb steel spaceframe.The fiero is fully driveable without its skin, and retains all sefety features. I stripped one down, put studded tires on it and turned it into a dune buggy :D

    @omario35 1984 models were prone to connecting rod failure due to a low 3-quart oil capacity, combined with the "its a mid-engine sports car" abuse. The rod would break, exit the block and spray oil on the catalytic converter. According to the NHTSA, there were only 135 confirmed complaints of fire in 1984-1988 Fieros. They recalled the car, which added new heat shields, along with a recalibrated dipstick and larger oil filter, which increased the oil capacity to 4.0 Quarts. :)

    Not always true. I bought my '85 Sport 2 years back for $1600, with 178,000 miles on it, and it just goes and goes. With the exception of the drivers door skin, it is all original paint and it is as slick as you'll ever find. The body shop instructor at my local university says it's the cleanest one he's ever seen and he's seen quite a few. It does have its quirks, but there's something about mid engine cars that just speaks to me. Oh, and it gets 30 miles to the gallon.

    My first car was a 1987 Fiero GT 5 speed which was my daily driver (and I worked far) for 9 years. Just the cooling fan switch went out in that decade. I bought it used with 33k miles. When I sold it: 127k miles. I have a 2006 RSX-S now with only 25k miles that I'm thinking about selling to pursue another Fiero GT, this time a 1988. There's one for sale in Washington that has never been sold/titled with only 211 miles, but they want $40,000 bucks for it. There's a sweet '88 with only 46k miles but it's for sale on the other side of the U.S. from where I live. Otherwise I would offer to swap cars.

    the fiero`s are neat little things for what they are, no doubt about it, i never get it when people trash talk them, i bet most of those haven't ever even been anywhere near one much less driven/owned one. nimble and agile little things, especially the GTs look great, and they are getting fairly popular among collectors and enthusiasts, so you can't possibly loose money on one unless you don't trash it of course. plus with todays aftermarket possibilities you can truly build them into rockets.

    @pdgable You do realize very few fieros have actually caught fire, right? According to the NHTSA VSR, there have only been 135 confirmed engine fires in 1984-1988 pontiac fieros. Fires were almost entirely exclusive to the 1984 model year. The fiero was recalled and the problem was fixed by early 1986. Any fieros to catch fire today would most likely be caused by shadetree, hilbilly repairs. Most fieros have over 100,000 miles on them by now. How much longer do we have to wait?

    Bring it too close to the corvette performance for less money

    The Fiero illustrates what was wrong about GM. They had a great idea for a high mpg commuter car, and the gas miliage on these was/is terrific.By pure luck the design turned out to be a great poor man's sports car design. They refined it to perfection, then of course they killed it! By 1988 these were awesome cars for their time, although still with that crappy GM fit and finish. I have a 86 gt and it's a ton of fun.
