      The all knowing, all seeing GM would never allow the Fiero to out shine the vette. They weren't Supercharging the 3800's in 87 yet but would have been nice if the GT came with the series 1 3800 V6

      I had an 1988 formula with 3.8 GTP conversion. Smoked the clutch in 5000 miles... upgrades...it pulled so hard it would lift the front wheels. Go to make a left hand turn from a dead stop and the car would go straight in a light rain. Still think this was the right set up for these cars. 3.8, supercharged. Hardly any mods. V8 engine your pulley system is in the wheel well. Sorry they quit in 1988. They really improved the suspension system. The 84 through 87 had a lot of bump steer. You could end up in the next lane.

    Beautiful car but neither of you know the engine source. Both the 2006 Monte Carlo SS, and GP GXP came with the 5.3L LS4. This looks to be a series III S/C 3800 which was only available in the GP GT in 06 as the GTP was discontinued. The engine was only produced from 2004-2007 and was only ever installed in the GP!

    I have a 1987 with a 3.8 Supercharged engine, also, that has been in the garage too long, so I'm starting to drive it more. I haven't started searching yet, but I'm curious where you (the owner) got that trunk cover in the rear. I had to cut the bottom of the trunk out to get a proper exhaust on this, & that would make a good cover for that area.

    One of the sharpest things you could do to Fiero is Paint The bumper strip that runs around the entire body that separates the panels the same color as the body. It makes a huge difference and nobody really knows what the difference is until you tell him. But assets set stock that black strip cuts the body in half it looks much smoother and Tighter if that strip is the body color

    Thinking the 3.8 L V6 was an option (without supercharger) on the Fiero, I had a concept (idea) of mounting a Fiero V6 drivetrain "behind" the rear seat of a 1966 Corvair convertible.

      The designers made it to except a V6 because they really wanted an all aluminum V6 but GM didn't want to let them do that. Would of smashed on the corvette on the race track.

    • @johnrusac6894
      @johnrusac6894 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only V6 offered was the 2.8L.
      I ungraded mine to a 4.9L Caddy V8. The SC 3800 is probably the better swap as there are more performance parts for easy power upgrades.
      The 4.9L V8 requires none of the cutting &fab work of some of these swaps. I still have a complete trunk, and I don’t need an electric water pump. Everything just fits & fools people. They think it’s stock.

    GM really screwed Pontiac over with this one, didn't give them a decent budget to get the job done right, however, Pontiac started creating their own parts towards the end and the prototype 90,is really sick, even the convertible was too. Great job man,I've always wanted one to do a G8 swap, including the paddle shifters. Come to think about it ,that current Camaro was the GTO in 1989,debuted at the Geneva Auto Show, GM shelved it, and Pontiac gave the much mundane version, which still looked better than any other GM vehicle

    I've owned over 20 Fiero, and the easiest and quickest and most profound suspension mod I discovered for the rear of the 84/ 87 models was the addition of a 1983 Lincoln Mark 7 front sway bar. Mounts easily in front of the back tires to the bottom of the subframe. Use energy suspension mounts and links. Enjoy 👍

    How would you go about with insuring a Fiero? I have an opportunity to own one but I'm not sure I can handle the costs what comes afterwards. Also is it that expensive maintaining it if I plan to drive it safely with no racing involved? I'm concerned about engine problems, the model I'm looking at seems to have a considerably aged V6 engine but I don't want to have to buy another engine unless there's a cheaper alternative engine I could switch to later on. Any help would be appreciated! From Canada by the way, love how this guy did his Fiero
