The decision to keep offline play was a big W, especially with how games go today.. I'm amazed they did it. I did enough D2 online to do me for a life time, I'm able to say I actually never played even one ladder season of D2R. I was completely content playing SSF offline using QoL mods while retaining the updated vanilla experience D2R provides. It was the first time I can actually say I made incredible RWs like enigma and infinity completely on my own. And I'm not kidding when I say I was actually shaking with adrenaline when I made my first self found enigma. Removing offline play would have made that moment impossible for me, so I'm absolutely grateful they implemented it in D2R.

"Forbidden" staffmods can no longer spawn in D2R (Holy Shield on scepters, Berserk on barb helms, etc.) because it now does an infinite amount of rolls until it selects a valid skill instead of the "7 failed rolls then it picks it anyways" thing it did in D2LoD.

My 2 cents on controllers. It helps with my carpal tunnel to have every button within finger reach. Easy to cast different spells without having to switch between hot keys. And spread between left and right hand. Mouse and keyboard my mouse hand gets so tired. But yea the menus suck. Also some skills like leap attack works better with mouse. Hey Mr Llama, loved the video! redownloading the game as I type this. I never got the chance to explore endgame properly before, and now with all the changes that you explained, could you maybe do a short refresh of your How ubers work video from 3 years ago? especially now with the possibility of doing all of it just single player style, thanks!
this is the best valuable d2 video in a LONG time. these changes are listed ANYWHERE. thank you so much. also, i CANT WAIT for the character video. thank you llama!
I actually really miss the bug where you’ll have your gear invisible on your character. Was cool to have peak characters looking like basic ones lmao I also really wish quickcast didn’t display all your hot keys above the bar like that, entirely stops me from using it
I will disagree on mosaic. . . they could limit MA dmg a little, so that you can only carry 1 or 2 sets of charged up skills at once. (2 seems most accurate). so if you want the leech, you gotta give up one of the damage sources etc. . . but mosaic is soo much more enjoyable. MA would need a rework almost without it. that entire tree is borderline useless outside an uber kick sin without them.
Have you played the mod Median XL and would you like some new things that mod had in D2R? I for once liked the end game with new areas and how to find them, new monsters and QoL changes. Didn't like the crafting system in the mod that much.
Some builds are great for controller, chillin on the couch comfortable. Some, however, are just impossible. And big ones, like Blizz sorce and Hammerdin. You just can’t target like you need to.
I've spent the last 2 years on controller and it's so hard to get used to the mouse and keyboard again but they seem to have their uses for certain builds. Melee skills seem to work well with controllers whereas you need a mouse for casters.
Do you have any advice for getting high level runes in single player? I probably have several hundred hours in Resurrected, but the best I have right now is 2 Ist runes. I really want to try for a Lo or Vex or something like that (I'd love a Jah and Ber for Enigma as well) but the odds are just so astronomically low, but then I see all sorts of players with tons of high level runes. Is there something I'm missing? Also, great video btw! I'm looking forward to seeing the character guide. Speaking of character changes, why did they have to neuter Telekinesis in single player?? I get it for online play so that Sorcs don't steal loot, but for offline mode it only serves to make the game worse imo.
D2R is the best example in history of how remaster should be done. And if you know the story of how they "reconstructed" the missing original code of the game, you can say that D2R is an act of love.
cow king kill ... also works in single player ?? i mean if I kill the cow king in normal single player, I am affected on the character?? or can do cow king runs on normal single player??
22 Nights of Terror dclone every 3 hours is imo best bonus of all, if you REALLY want you can get 8 annis in a 24hr span, which is big for a casual like me
@MrLlamaSC what about builds such as throw barb or fireball sorc, you know, builds that require aim? I find those types of builds more superior on controller due to auto aim, that's just my rookie opinion. But yeah m&k still trumps controller for the majority of d2 imo.
IMHO they should add the PoE model where you can buy extra stash tabs, including specialized ones for runes, guilds etc

I played Diablo 2 when it first came out. No mana potions was super annoying. Added LOD when it came out and that compared to 20 years later is no contest. D2R is far superior to LOD. Yes, I did beat the game with a summon Druid in D2 but with D@R the Zoo Druid is a true joy to play. I prefer D2R as in myopinion as one of the original D2 players, D2R is the best upgrade to a game I have ever seen.
Agreed, as a first hour player too, they upgraded the game real good, I feared what it would be at first, but then bought the game, and saw it was well done.
You can always switch back to your old LoD copy, transfer your character from D2R, ebug an armor in LoD and then transfer it back to D2R for unlimited power!
I think more than anything else of the removed glitches I miss is STR bugging. It was always hilarious watching a Bowazon go around just punch out arrows like a machine gun
- No multiplayer with local characters. No open bnet, no LAN multiplayer. - No unlimited accounts, your game "purchase" is tied to your bnet account. Probably more convenient with shared stash tab and more character slots, but still you'll likely need to delete old stuff in order to play on new ladder season.
I noticed I like some details, like the giant statue heads in the desert, more in D2 classic. Remastered makes some things too realistic, while the 2D pixel art of the original games shows imagination and creativity that were forced by limited hardware.
What I love about D2R is: -Removal of global cast rate, fixed attack speed & next hit delay damage - Mosaic sin (aka the most powerful build in D2R and I hope they never remove her from D2R if anything the babarian, zon & druid need a mosaic like runeword) - Zoo druid & FoHdin are actually good now - Cow level changes & gamble refresh button - Decent mercenaries especially the dual wield barbs & changes to RWs like Insight in bows - TZs & sunder charms VV really did a good job remastering this but with that being Project Diablo 2 & Median xl are still superior to D2R and all its mods.
I’d love to see you update character builds as well. Your videos are still good but example immortal sorc was good but with sunders it’s dropped a few tiers I feel.

Gotta give a shout out to Mordor from The Hell/TH2/TH3 D1 mod. A lot of the quality of life improvements he did to D1 years ago.
Just to mention - Andariel was naked before and now is dressed :) which to me is a minus.
Definitely a minus.
I have built a prayer merc with insight and cure for the triple stacking prayer effect for my hammerdin :'D haven't played it further than nm Act4 so far but the regen is CRAZY.
D2R and command and conquer are the best remasters of old goldies ive ever seen, not only maintaining the spirit of the originals but even improving upon/QoL without changing its core gameplay
Thanks for all the info! I’ve just found your channel!!🥰
I was wondering - do you have a gear levelling video? I am currently using spirit, lore, ancients and stealth and sigons (belt gloves boots) and nagelring but I’m currently in NM and struggling with survivability. Is there some other rune words you can suggest to replace my current sets and at around which levels?
Many thanks😁
th-cam.com/video/a3azAJ1oO6A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hb7IHidC6ya1ad7b try this one
1:41 100% it is looking so good, better than any other arpg!
I just started D2R up again for the first time in ~4 years.
Thanks for this, I already have like 300+ hours on D2R, but I didn't know almost half of this! Only the really obvious stuff like graphics, runewords, online experience, and single player terror zones.
The most important bug they fixed in D2r for me is the Tomb Viper bug. I love farming Nihlathak now, Halls are my 2nd home
is charge desync still a thing? i loved eating invisible hammers in the blood moor
Does grief still add damage to smite?
D2R is a great improvement ngl
i miss the aggressive stance of hardcore players. they dropped the ball on that
I'm not playing D2R anymore, but ... as someone who played a martial arts assassin 20 years ago, i must say: 12:30 would've been an awesome thing to have :D (well, it does not have to be OP, but yeah)
Hi, at min 17:08 u talk about runeword "Obsession". U say u can put that runeword in a magic item, with already stats on it? But thats not possible rright? the item must be normal?
No magic items. Normal, superior, ethereal are ok.
Not magic but in a socketed staff that has mods on it. Still Grey
Great video! I know it would be a huge task but I would love one from release date diablo 2 2000 up until the very last update 1.14
That could be interesting!
Lvl 1 cleansing helm. On an act 2 prayer aura merc.. with insight pole... so much heals
this is the best valuable d2 video in a LONG time. these changes are listed ANYWHERE. thank you so much. also, i CANT WAIT for the character video. thank you llama!
mosaic, makes you smile, it seems like you have a little place in your heart for it :)
Tbh, I feel like animation even better than D4, the D4 running animation still has that floaty feel from D3
I actually really miss the bug where you’ll have your gear invisible on your character. Was cool to have peak characters looking like basic ones lmao
I also really wish quickcast didn’t display all your hot keys above the bar like that, entirely stops me from using it
I will disagree on mosaic. . . they could limit MA dmg a little, so that you can only carry 1 or 2 sets of charged up skills at once.
I actually really loved median xl. It was a little ridiculous at times but it has quite solid endgame
What you actually played back then vs. How you remember it.
Some builds are great for controller, chillin on the couch comfortable. Some, however, are just impossible. And big ones, like Blizz sorce and Hammerdin. You just can’t target like you need to.
Wow the updated version looks great thanks for the vid! Can't wait to play this new version, did they give a release date yet?
I honestly wish they had done another sequel to this game as part of the remaster. More content to it would have been awesome.
I completely agree with removing mosaic. Not only are they stupidly broken, but playing in a game with one is a constant assault on your retinas.
Nice haircut my brotha!
LAAAAATE UPLOAD😮😮😮😮
Thank you MrLlama for this video this was something I VERY much needed, you’re the GOAT, no the LLAMA of Diablo 2😎😎😎
You never had to leave town to refresh the gamble screen. You only had to close the page and reopen it.
The should add misc stash and more pages like pod
Little late, but the only sunder charm I would never recommend is the lightning one. Specifically because lightning is so prevalent and dangerous
Does d2r work on Linux?
Chapters in a llama video? 😮
Who is this big llama?
D2R is the best example in history of how remaster should be done. And if you know the story of how they "reconstructed" the missing original code of the game, you can say that D2R is an act of love.
cow king kill ... also works in single player ??
i mean if I kill the cow king in normal single player, I am affected on the character?? or can do cow king runs on normal single player??
you can kill king on single player
Yes you can kill the Cow King and still be able to open the Cow Level in offline single player.
moooo
22 Nights of Terror dclone every 3 hours is imo best bonus of all, if you REALLY want you can get 8 annis in a 24hr span, which is big for a casual like me
Menuing in controller has some points, like some autofills for the belt.
Love your vids man
Wish FCR/FHR Guides were available in-game. (Or just a ToolTip Hover that tells you where your next Breakpoint is)
Controller has its ups and downs. But overall it's really good
Yeah i mean for what it is they did a great job. But keyboard will just always be better here
@MrLlamaSC if my hands could be as good as they used to, I would still be playing m&k especially now with the quick casts
They really did a great job
Agreed, as a first hour player too, they upgraded the game real good, I feared what it would be at first, but then bought the game, and saw it was well done.
Happy that I enjoyed this! Oh, also happy that I was the 1,000th like! :D
You can always switch back to your old LoD copy, transfer your character from D2R, ebug an armor in LoD and then transfer it back to D2R for unlimited power!
No swapcast, no merc bug, Andariel quest drop
D2R is my favourite of all time! With right mods, skills, items, filters, settings and slower pace this game is just incredible!
I think more than anything else of the removed glitches I miss is STR bugging. It was always hilarious watching a Bowazon go around just punch out arrows like a machine gun
do you think in the next D2 remake they'll finally make Duriel blue to match his ice aura......
His color changes in different difficulties. One is blue im pretty sure
I think Nightmare?
- No multiplayer with local characters. No open bnet, no LAN multiplayer.
- No unlimited accounts, your game "purchase" is tied to your bnet account. Probably more convenient with shared stash tab and more character slots, but still you'll likely need to delete old stuff in order to play on new ladder season.
I noticed I like some details, like the giant statue heads in the desert, more in D2 classic. Remastered makes some things too realistic, while the 2D pixel art of the original games shows imagination and creativity that were forced by limited hardware.
What I love about D2R is:
-Removal of global cast rate, fixed attack speed & next hit delay damage
- Mosaic sin (aka the most powerful build in D2R and I hope they never remove her from D2R if anything the babarian, zon & druid need a mosaic like runeword)
- Zoo druid & FoHdin are actually good now
- Cow level changes & gamble refresh button
- Decent mercenaries especially the dual wield barbs & changes to RWs like Insight in bows
- TZs & sunder charms
VV really did a good job remastering this but with that being Project Diablo 2 & Median xl are still superior to D2R and all its mods.
Mosaic Is a joke honestly. Spam spam spam spam is more D3 style!
How to use the updates would have been nice.
Ebug Fix, Cain Placement in A5, Mosaic(It's a D3 Build), Changes of characters philosophies are bad changes to me.
I honestly never knew about the Andariel bug, I always thought it was strange the rewards were great sometimes and just dogwater others.
Now we just need Blizzard to make the game truly great by combining updated graphics with PD2
I’d love to see you update character builds as well. Your videos are still good but example immortal sorc was good but with sunders it’s dropped a few tiers I feel.
Can anyone tell me where the side to side comparison from the thumbnail is? I can't see/find it.
Clickbait?
