In this video, we are counting down the top 10 facts about the Newfoundlands that you might not know.
    A Quick Overview:
    Group: Working Dogs
    Weight: 100 to 150 pounds
Height: 2 feet, 1 inch to 2 feet, 5 inches tall at the shoulder
    Life Expectancy: 8 - 10 years
Originating in Newfoundland, Canada, located on the northeastern shore of that country, the Newfoundland, affectionately nicknamed "Newfie," shares a birthplace with the popular Labrador Retriever. The breeds are similar in character, sharing a desire to please, intelligence, a strong work ethic, friendliness, adaptability, and versatility.
The Newfoundland is a giant breed (about 100 pounds). Though relatively placid, he still needs daily exercise to keep fit. Neat freaks need not consider the Newfoundland because his long, heavy coat is a mud-burr-dirt magnet. He is especially skilled at tracking dirt and debris throughout the house. You'll need to keep up with quite a bit of grooming to minimize the damage. And he drools - a lot.
But when it comes to training, you'll find the Newfoundland is an A student. He learns quickly and there is little this dog can't do. Training should begin early because the breed gets big quickly and it can be tough to haul a 100-pound pooch off the couch.
All dogs have the potential for heroism, but it seems to be hardwired into this naturally strong swimmer. There are many accounts of Newfoundlands rescuing people from the cold waters of the Atlantic following a shipwreck or plucking children from icy deep water - just in time. Regardless of the purpose of the Newfoundland in your life, be it worker or companion, he will no doubt capture your heart.

Our 5-yr young Newfie "Jingles" (born in December!) passed just 2- weeks ago from Bladder Cancer/TCC [Transitional Cell Carcinoma] ~ we we told in Feb. that she had, maybe, from 6-months to a year... We had all the best meds & even Chemotherapy!! She made it for 10-months and passed with us holding her in our, her home... We've NEVER had such a Loving, Loyal and GREAT HEARTED Pet, but she was mainly my wife's BABY (@ 145-lbs. THAT WAS A LOT!).., she never left her side... The worst part is HOW HEARTBROKEN WE ALL ARE..!!!

My Nefwfie is 3 years old. A male. There has been times I think why did I get this dog. He has strained my arm pulling. Slobbered everywhere. Humped up on all dogs and some people. Barked for walks at 4 am, temps below 30F. Chewed my arm. Now that his training is complete I will be just as devastated as your family when he passes away. I love his good heart, smile, wagging tail, rub up against me when i come home. our fun long walks off leash, gentle walks once his puppy years ended. There is so much sweetness with him. The trained version him was worth all the work. I am sure your dog was even better. Jingles sounded like a great dog. Sad she had only 5 years. Thanks for sharing your story

I’ve had my 3 year old Newfie for a year my granddaughter fixed us up
He’s my Newfievisor he will crawl on the floor start in living room and work his way to the kitchen waiting for something to fall. He also watched me cut grass wash the car. His tail isn’t one I call it a rudder it’s big and powerful I haven’t learned to keep stuff off the coffee tables
I got to take him swimming a few times this year if he thinks I’ve swam far enough he will come to me grab my arm and pull him to safety
He hardly swam befire I had him he just stayed in an apartment or house
So we’ve done lots of things together. I get pawed alot when he wants a treat affection to go outside more affection and attention
He’s very quick to learn and I love to watch his interaction with my grandkids. I get asked all the time how did I get a license to own a bear
They grow big but the people had whom him when he was a puppy neutered him before he was 18 months and stunted his growth so he stays between 100-120 lbs the size of a person
He sets off my seatbelt chime in my truck
    Awesome breed awesome companion

I’ve had the breed for over 20 years and I’m just hooked . I fell in love with them when I was a small girl as I saw two men walking these black bears, and I asked my mum if we could get one. She replied when your older. So when I left home guess what I got myself a newf and 20+ yrs and 14 newfs later I’m here . They are so Dopey so loving they are my absolute everything. I just love this gentle giant breed , we’ve showed we’ve water trained and now we just have them all as our pets of leisure haha I think once you have one , you’ve been bitten by the Newfy bug and you will be hooked like I am . 💕🐾💙🐾

Yes that’s my nearly 11 year old newfoundland Landseer who last September 2019 had a spinal stroke and we were told that it would take 18/24 months before he would even try to walk because of his size and old age. Basil is one determined boy, he was totally paralysed and lost his bark we worked hard as a family. The vets and specialists couldn’t believe what hard work we were doing. We even made a hoist to lift him onto his peanut ball for his home physio then to lift him into his wheels we got him this January 2020. As soon as he set paws in his wheels that was it , he was running down our close. It took Basil 6 months to walk again not 18/24 months. Not bad for an old boy I say and with his progress over lockdown he shocked all the vets, specialists and the physio team. That boy means the absolute everything to me even tho we have 4 newfs but he’s one hell of a superstar and got a big fan base on my fb and he’s just started a Instagram. That shows his story and progress. So yes he has a limp but he was totally paralysed this time last year and he’s a miracle. He’s my superhero my super Bazzi B 💙🐾

The only thing wrong with his pronunciation was the way he said “lands”... being a Newfie myself (and NO not the canine kind) the way some people pronounce Newfoundland drives me insane.... it’s not New Found Land it’s Newf n Land... the ‘ ound” in the word is pronounced like the letter N....
