@@benderbendingrodriguez420 You mean with the occasional rendering glitches and texture drops, to the terrible shot of the monster's face, and the over-the-top acting and silly actions scenes, and by the numbers writing Deep Rising rocks?
Don't get me wrong, Deep Rising is entertaining, but it is by no stretch of the imagination good. But Octopus is soooooo much worse.
I also have a grading system.
      AWESOME
      Great
      Good
      Entertaining
      Mediocre
      Bad
      Boring
I should be watching porn instead
Oh my god, I would rather be vomiting out of both ends.
Deep Rising is merely entertaining, which I should have clarified, is in the upper part of average. While Octopus is actually bad, which is low end average. But keep in mind BOTH movies are bad, just not the same level of bad. However, they are also NOT the worst things I have ever seen. I have seen movies that are so bad that even porn is better in terms of acting, writing, and cinematography, even music and special effects.

Having a sub as the place for a monster movie? Good idea. No escape, claustrophobic, and what served movies like Alien and even Leviathan so well. Having it as a way to transport a terrorist, who attempts to escape.. on a submarine... with most of the plot based around the terrorist and not the octopus? Not so much

Hey, the real cruise ship featured in the flyby footage is the ship once known as the Pacific Princess AKA the actual ship used on The Love Boat. The distinctive rear deck pool and the large vertical windows nearby are a dead giveaway, as well as the blade featured on the exhaust stack. Pacific Princess made her final voyage with Princess Cruises in October/November 2002, sailing from New York City to Rome, Italy. She was scrapped in 2013. They also used some real footage of a couple of Carnival ships.

Turner is portrayed by Jay Harrington, one of the primary cast members of the CBS series SWAT and the titular character in the disappointly short lived workplace sitcom Better Off Ted. The villain Casper is also one of the most prolific "generic Russian villain" actors around, Ravil Isyanov. I was about to make the same comment. Weird he doesn´t know it, maybe it´s too nitche of a European B-film, but to me it´s the best Troma movie not made by Troma (although Troma published it on the US so lots of people think it´s part of the Troma family despite being so clearly German), and probably one of the most important European movies withing the movement of that particular shot to video cheap horror comedies of the 80-90s that is not Italian, Spanish or Portuguese.

    • @gallibon1319
      @gallibon1319 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

I was always bummed out that Phelous never even actually finished reviewing it. It felt like he _really_ didn't want to review it and half-assed it. I get not wanting to review a movie that you feel doesn't give you much material, but don't make an episode to review it only to barely review and quit halfway through on it. He did again for the sequel too! Just don't review it then.
Definitely was one of my least favorite episodes of Phelous, tbh. Brandon Tenold's review here is far superior.

So this is what happens when you cross a terrorist action thriller flick with the final scene from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
I'd rather go for The Rift, also known as Siren 1, which at least has questionable-looking mutant beasts and juicy blood effects.
By the way: why are the submarines in such movies always so huge on the inside? In real life, they're more like floating cans.

I've seen 'bad' movies of all kinds since I was a kid growing up on MST3K and my family was renting trash from the local video store. The worst movies we watched weren't because of bad acting, bad writing, or just so full of bad effects that it was cringe; it was when the movies have long stretches of boring nothing.
