@@bluevanga30 Honestly, it's not like it's all that big of a problem, it feels more boring when you watch it, but playing it, it does good for atmosphere.
@@KaneyoriHK yeah. The story doesn’t need to be complex, it just needs to serve as a basic vehicle for the horror and atmosphere to exist. Nobody has ever praised Outlast for it’s plot, and that was never the focus that the studio was aiming for. It’s not like MGS where the plot is essential to understanding wtf is happening. The lore just exists for those who want it. That’s why it is mostly limited to notes and documents instead of distracting exposition cutscenes. I'm quite disappointed at the lack of wall riding the Walrider does in the game. Also, shout out to the mug on Dr. Wernicke's desk at 25:02 that just says "coffee" on it, truly an innovative choice for such a game.
Bro, that’s a major spoiler. Like WTF! I know I had 8 years to play the game, but I’ve been busy. A good day of crimes against humanity start with a good cup of Seattle’s Best™. By exposing that, now I know the whole plot. Not cool bro. Just like Starbucks coffee, which is never served cold and will never let you down.
Expecting the Walrider to ride walls is like expecting Wal-Mart to sell drywall. The name is an abbreviation of "Walton Rider" which makes perfect sense if you read all of the notes scattered throughout the game.

Random thingy: The painting at 26:30 is a Prometheus by Theodoor Rombouts (which I recently had the chance to see irl, and it’s wonderful). Prometheus is a Greek mythological figure who gave humans creativity and science by showing them how to make fire. I presume it’s there because Wernicke sees himself as a new Prometheus
And then the gods chained Prometheus to the side of a cliff and sent an eagle every day to eat his liver. His liver regenerates itself over the rest of the day, only to be eaten the next day. Which is a startlingly apt metaphor for modern video games.
25:38; Actually I liked the nanomachines plot. Maybe just because I'm a sucker for sci-fi horror. From what I understand, the Morphogenic Engine isn't the big machine, and isn't really a physical object. It's a series of mathematical equations that Wernicke discovered that allows him to make a Rorschach-ass-looking video to show people that causes a psychosomatic (some science thing where your physiological state effects your body in some physical way, usually stress causing illnesses and things like that) response that turns people into factories which turn precursor molecules (a nanomachines thing I don't understand, but I think it's molecules that assemble themselves into the desired nanomachine under the right circumstances when combined with other molecules or something) into nanomachines, a well known psychosomatic condition known as death cloud factory. So the weird video that left afterimages in the vision of the character at the beginning of Outlast: Whistleblower was the Morphogenic Engine. Also there's something about controlling the swarm and lucid dreaming or something. I don't know I didn't get that part. I don't know I just like wacky sci-fi stuff. The important thing is that this only works on traumatised individuals, which is why they used an asylum. The thing Miles discovers is that the mistreatment of the patients isn't neglect, it's systematic abuse and torture meant to prepare them to be subjects for Wernicke's experiments. There's a document from a doctor about how the arts program of the asylum was cancelled, and that his patient, who turns out to be Father Martin, has degraded since they stopped letting him finger paint, and laments that this will cost more for Murkoff in the long run given the increased dose of anti psychotics they will need, and commenting it seems like Murkoff wants the patients to get worse. Which is exactly what they want, and allowing Father Martin to finger paint in art therapy is counterproductive to that goal. Mount Massive Asylum is like the opposite of a mental health hospital. They try their best to make their patients conditions worse. It's not a pharmacy, it's a harmacy. Edit: That stuff on the screen at 27:09 and 27:24, that's the Morphogenic Engine. You can also kind of see it on the screen when the Walrider is attacking Miles at 28:23
