I realize this is only a game, and Tony Attwood's name is just there as a clue for the player to research River's condition (Asperger's), but as somebody who suffers from Asperger's and who has dealt with Dr. Attwood personally, I can honestly say that the man is about as far from an expert as one can get. To anybody who cares to read on: Attwood tends to be very discriminatory towards people with Asperger's, believing us to all be the same, and to have what he calls a 'God Mode', which means that anybody with Aspergers will believe that he/she is without any flaws. I can't speak for everybody, but I am all too aware of my own shortcomings. But again, this is only a game, and typing Attwood's name into Google will give you the answer to River's condition. I think I've ranted enough. Enjoy the rest of the playthrough. I know I will. ^_^
Yeah as soon as the name Tony Attwood came up I had to google it. I'm glad the developer decided to put a clue in the game so we cold work out what "condition" everyone was talking about. I know nothing about him or his work. Just recognized the name from somewhere. I'm sorry to hear you were mistreated. No-one deserves to be put in a category and told they are the same as someone else. We're all different. That is the fun of it :D
As someone without Aspergers Syndrome, but who has a friend and several acquaintances who suffer from it, I can... sort of... empathize. My one acquaintance DOES in fact have that sort of God Mode personality trait, in that she gets this superiority thing going on a lot, and refuses to admit to any shortcomings. My one friend, however, is the opposite. On several occasions, I've had to have a major "real talk" moment with him, making sure he knew that myself and our mutual friends really did care for him, and that he wasn't as useless as he liked to think he was. I care for all my friends, so whenever people start lumping into hard and fast groups, I get really annoyed. And unfortunately, in the case of mental disorders (and similar situations) it's an all to common theme. Still, it's nice to see a game use tangential learning like that
Hows that a spoiler?? More like convient since it was never directly explained what it was. It didnt ruin anything but instead made everything more understandable. Heck I came to the comments looking for the answer since i couldnt figure it out and they were not directly explaining it in the story. Much better than me having to Google. Stop being petty. This condition wasnt some big secret of the game. It was made obvious its just that not everyone would know.
To be honest, I kind of like that design choice. At the time that this part of the game plays, autism was not as researched as it is now and people didn't know the actual facts often, so maybe at some point this guy was actually considered an expert, just that his theories have been disproven since then.
@YunoInbox- I have Asperger's, too. And trust me, I can be arguably unhealthily self-conscious of my own shortcomings. It's no frolic in Law Law Land, that's for sure.
A note to Mark about "horse therapy". Yes, it does exist. Yes, it does work. Next time you see a horse, look at how it walks. Very similar in movement to a human's leg movement, yes? This helps disabled people in movement. The way one sits in the saddle builds muscles, good posture and strength. It builds confidence, self esteem. Riding gives one a chance to relax and have fun. You create a bond with the horse, but you also learn to be responsible and patient. Case in point: I went to a place that had that as part of the horseback riding program. I actually went there for lessons, not therapy, but I loved it all the same.
Ashleigh Mikaelson I think that it is. She made a bunch of rabbits that were identical to one another, and then she made one that stood out. And John only approached her because she was different, so...
I particularly like how this game refrains from giving her condition a name. Without knowing precisely what the condition is, we aren't distracted by whether or not it's an accurate depiction and we can focus on the impact that it has on the characters. This game has really impressed me with its storytelling overall.
What did he confess to her in that little flash back on the cliff? I re-watched the first 3 episodes and can't find it! ARGH! What did he confess to her on the bench on the cliff before she started making the paper bunnies?!
Lady Scattergun He confessed his motives for wanting to go out with her when they first met, and how they were tainted by his fascination with how strange she was. In the confession scene it was merely implied that something was amiss, but in this episode we got the backstory.
(please don't spoil this song for people who don't know what it is yet. Just enjoy remembering 'that' part of the game.) D; Short steps, deep breaths, everything is alright. Chin up, I can't, step into the spotlight. She said, I'm sad, somehow without any words. I just, stood there, searching for an answer. When this world is no more, the moon is all we'll see. I'll ask you to fly away with me. Until the stars all fall down, they empty from the sky,but I don't mind, if you're with me, then everything's alright. Why do, my words, always lose their meaning. When I feel what I say, when there's such a rift between them. He said, I can't, really seem to read you. I just, stood there, never knowing what I should do. When this world is no more, the moon is all we'll see, I'll ask you to fly away with me. Until the stars all fall down, they empty from the sky, but I don't mind. If you're with me, then everything's alright. If you're with me, then everything's alright.
Well, sh*t! Seems like someone broke TH-cam. I can't get any videos to play. Stupid hackers!!!!! >=( Why would someone do something so terrible??!!! It's almost as if they want to start WWIII!!!!!!! Sh*t! Hide your kids! Hide your spouse! Buy ALL the canned foods and get in the cellar!!!! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!! ALL BECAUSE SOMEBODY SHUT DOWN TH-cam!!!
Mikayla Wall Or its just g+ fucking up again... or your browser/connection is just shitty... or your provider is down right now.... But nah, must be super 1337 h4ck3rz that DDOS'd youtube -.-
I have PDD (Pervasive Developmental Disorder). It's similar to autism. Watching the playthrough and figuring out the diagnosis, I now realize that River's symptoms of the disorder is very similar to my own. I was diagnosed with it as a baby. Growing up with it was hell, especially dealing with bullies. It made me very introverted, timid, and took me a while to process simple things. I even had really delayed reactions to being bullied, resulting in severe depression and anxiety near my senior year in high school and PTSD. My therapy for all 4 disorders is sewing, crafting, and cosplay.
Equine therapy is the useage of horses in helping to overcome mental conditions and can be done either on the ground or riding the horse. As I'm doing a degree on Equine Science Complementary Therapy and Natural Horsemanship i'm likely to learn the ins and outs over the course. Horses have certainly helped me make friends through my autism, human and horse alike.
+Ollie Stevens The bad thing about making a film out of this is that a lot of it would have to be removed and some things would need to be changed. That's how film adaptations are made. If we want to maintain the our opinions on this amazing story, its best not to touch it.
Omg A lot of people think Neil is stupid and Mean but he is like my favorite character in the game so far XD I mean he was on the horse backwards... I feel like that would be me
I'm becoming emotionally attached to this. Did he even truly come to love her, or was she still a tool to validate his singularity in the end? He gained fondness for her, at least. But it's odd that he didn't want to truly acclimate himself to her condition (whatever it is). Maybe he didn't want to accept she wasn't 'unique' and was just another person with this condition. Something has always been off with the relationship and it starts with this cafeteria conversation on his part, but the day he confessed is when things truly began crumble. Now I'm thinking I know part of what the rabbit means, but there's so much more missing.
Tsukino Hitusguya Please no spoilers. I'm going to ride this emotional roller coaster as much as I can. The way he started the relationship was beyond fucked up, but I'm glad he came to love her.
I just realized! These memories are bias to what John remembers. He saw the court lines as squares and not circles so that means everything we see is of what he vaguely remembers. That means while they were in the docs office and the doc asked how was their relationship she answered straight away, but because John thought it was good he wanted her to remember answering it as good. So I think we might find out that Johns memories are different from the truth.
I'm guessing that, River has aspergers...I can empathize with her and how she feels, having aspergers is in no way enjoyable, and I've heard people say "But you're smart and talented, doesn't that make you happy?" and I don't understand what they mean, being smart and talented shouldn't make someone happy, it just makes us different...I feel exactly like her at some points, the creator was a genius, he captured a lot of how someone with aspergers (and some other forms of autism) can feel with great precision.
Exactly! This game really touches my heart. As a fellow person with Asperger's, it does have a few benefits, like "intelligence" and better memory, but... it also has its downsides such as not being able to pick up on social norms, and taking things too literally at times. The creator of this game truly is a genius, I wonder if he has Asperger's himself...
i have a 168 iq but i think i may have some form of autism because i too have acute sensitivities and lack that social je ne sais quoi, and i feel like my intelligence often goes under the rug in the face of my flaws, maybe i'ts just the psychosis, or schizophrenia, that would still cause thesse problems, and i was diagnosed with both. so i dunno, all i do know is i'm not gonna let my instabilities and scuffmarks stop me from truckin' that's for sure ~-O
you're definitely right. having aspbergers is rough. especially when coupled with disorders like bipolar and ADHD (both of which I have along with aspbergers) and though we appear normal for most, we still struggle. there are days when I just want to curl up and be left alone. especially when people look at me and treat me differently after they find out my diagnosis. most of my family still don't understand that what to do with me when I visit. and I agree with you, Zentanimation. this game has captured how it feels to be autistic wonderfully. he hit the nail right on the head with this game in all its beauty
I know, i was diagnosed with it sometime around 7th or 8th grade. I did well in some classes and not other. Sometimes I felt left out or would have out bursts and get detention for it I'm glade i'm out of school now.
The reason River started making the rabbits is a metaphor that something bad can happen on an amazing day. It must've been the happiest day of her life, but something bad still happened. She probably made one for every every she remembers that was bad, either to her or John, so she can deal with it mentally. That's probably why she made the blue and yellow one for John. She's trying to show him that it's both of them together. She thinks it will help him with her death.
Equine therapy is actually rather beautiful. I've seen it really help people with different conditions and those who struggle with socialisation become so chatty and lovely. I'm so glad I've been around horses all my life and been around to see how happy they make not only myself but other people.
How to watch Markipliers videos: Step 1: click on the video. Step 2: brace yourself for dramatic story reading ahead. Step 3: enjoy. PS. Can't wait till we find out what her illness is, the suspense is killing me.
Something Something Butterfly I actually thought about that but you see I'm not sure I want to know before the story itself gets to that point. Maybe without knowing it would be more entertaining. Basically I'm torn.
Something Something Butterfly but maybe after you are done with the story and look up the illness it would be like that epic feeling of an Epiphany when suddenly all the puzzle peaces fall into place and everything suddenly makes sense xD I don't know... I like to dramatize things on occasion. Makes life more interesting. XD
Something Something Butterfly Thus getting the best of both possibilities... Well thank you for this wonderful conversation! ^^ I enjoyed it, Lol. And thank you for putting up with my indesisevness xD
It's kind of ironic. OFF was just as serious a gameplay as this one is, and yet his voice acting for all those characters in OFF was one of the best things of his letsplay of that game. But here, noooo. One period of having fun with the voices is clearly crossing the line, even though he acknowledged plainly that it was getting serious again and he stopped having fun with the voices. Good grief.
Gigsis Exactly! It's so irritating everyone is making such a big deal about it. There's even a character that's comedic relief here, but Mark does it and good Lord, he's ruined the entire game and he's the most immature person on the planet.
I've googled about that Pervasive developmental disorder and it seems Mark called it. The 4 main types of PDD are Autism, Asperger syndrome, Rett syndrome and Childhood dis-integrative disorder or CDD
This video has actually helped me a lot actually on a level on relating, but not in a bad way (like John). Not because it's a nice series, good plot, etc, but because my boyfriend has asbergers and it relates to me a little of the parts that are difficult for my boyfriend to understand, like my emotions, feelings etc, and the parts that need we need to build on together, and how unique and special he is to me :) From what I know, asbergers is genetic and affects people in different ways. Some people could be shy and they need to warm up to people before they feel comfortable, some can't understand when someone is crying or feeling upset, body language, eye contact, etc. Some (well, I think most) are quite logical and are problem thinkers, usually staying quiet and ponder for a bit. My boyfriend took me half a year to warm up to me fully
Yes, pretty much all of this is correct. I have Asperger's myself, so, I can account for all of this, *especially* the understanding social norms and eye contact. We also can have a near photographic memory, but we can't control what things out brains choose to latch onto and remember... if that makes any sense. Oddly enough, I'm actually a very outgoing and friendly person, which is very uncommon for people diagnosed with Asperger's. I hope you and your boyfriend have a happy life together.
Thank you Twidgetron. During school over the past few years he has socialized with many people and now we have a whole group of friends. Somehow I think I have changed him a bit by introducing him to new people.
That's awesome, really truly. Another aspect of Asperger's is that if we like something, we often become very fixated on that thing and discuss it with others often, sort of like River with lighthouses, or me with Computers. I'm in high school right now, and I've recently really come out of my shell, I'm no longer just the weird kid... well, that's a lie, I'm still really weird, I've found a bunch of friends that I can be weird with and they enjoy my company!
Twidgetron Your not weird just different and that goes for everyone with asperger's, autism or PDD-NOS. And anyway what is normal if you look at that closely you will find that normal is what the majority of the community finds acceptable and nothing more.
24:13 Story of my life, I NEVER know how to make a simple answer without feeling like I have to explain it to the point I might as well be making a documentary.
Same here. either i say "i don't know" even though i know, or i make a fuckin' documentary. then there is the elusive "yes" or "no". Moral of the story: NEVER ask me a question with more than 3 answers. (example: what's your favorie food?)
I'm pretty sure River's condition is Asperger's. It's a lot like Autism but people with Asperger's are more high functioning and seek social relations more. That would explain her strong memory, her dislike of ticking clocks (people with Asperger's have certain sense irritations) her "oddness" and why she wasn't sitting with John in the theater (since they have a hard time understanding social norms)
***** Maybe it is but if you search Tony Attwood you'll find out that he's a specialist in Asperger's syndrome So the game is trying to specify that she has Asperger's. That and PDD is not the same thing as PDD-Nos, which is what I think you're thinking of or were diagnosed with (or maybe not, I don't wanna sound rude or anything heh). PDD is a category of the five pervasive developmental disorders; PDD-Nos, Autism, Asperger's, Rett Syndrome and Childhood disintegrative disorder. Note that some doctors will use PDD as a shortened way to say PDD-Nos, but PDD itself is not a diagnosis, just a category, while PDD-Nos is in fact a diagnosis.
vladimir2tod4ever97 Yes, this inaccurate diagnosis is why my younger brother with autism is 20 years old, built like a football linebacker, but only has the mentality of someone of about 5 or 6. As someone with Aspergers myself, I'm quite familiar with mentioning a topic I'm fond of and rattling on about it for ages. On the flip side, should I encounter a subject i don't like/find no interest in, good luck getting me to have anything to do with it. And yes, the sensory irritation is pervasive in not just hearing but sometimes textures, taste, smells, etc. For example, I'd get stressed and angry due to the florescent lights commonly used in schools. And yes, grudges can be held indefinitely. It comes with the memory; because our memory can replay an embarrassing, sad, anger filled memory in perfect clarity at the drop of a hat, it didn't happen X years ago, it happened 5 minutes ago and I'll react like it was 5 minutes ago. I may seem like I'm too well spoken to have this problem, but that's where the trick lies. I have quite the torment of living a life and acting "normal", but being confronted with things that should be simple things suddenly makes me lock up. When pushed into it, I seek an escape that is not rational. As a doctor put it "You're in the painful section of knowing you have the problem of knowing what's wrong with you but have to watch as it disables your life." Common insult I've heard are "You're just lazy." or "You just need to go out and do it." Next time you think that, imagine putting on boxing gloves, having to type an essay, and then getting scolded and berated for every single mistake you make. It's a horrible life to live and I don't recommend it to anyone.
I'm just watching this playthrough for the billionth time (at the horse riding moment). And a thought occurred to me. If To the Moon were ever to get a movie adaptation, just how absolutely perfect Markiplier would be to be casted as the actor for Neil.
Something interesting to note: At 0:21, one of the lines of code for the memory-jump software says the following curious message: "Step twice in the river of life" Foreshadowing? Plot point? Easter egg? Either way, it's cool.
Her condition reminds me of an outdated syndrome called Asperger's, which is now considered high-functioning Autism. As a person with high-functioning Autism myself, I can relate to being extremely bothered by certain things, such as small noises or visuals, usually repetitive ones. I've also noticed her frank answers, such as "yes" instead of "I do", which is also characteristic of people with it.
Also the fact that she keeps the same platypus doll for her entire life, and how they were surprised that a girl had it. I believe most people with it are boys.
In this video, River reminded me of myself. The girl sitting alone at lunch. I felt happy at the thought that some people may actually like that aspect of people(like how Johnny was describing at first). But then I was immediately shot down when he stated how he could "use" a person like that. That's when a lot of my personal scars came back up and hit me cold in the face. Such emotional turmoil from this story. Keep the playthroughs coming Markiplier!
No way!! that'll stress the heck out of him! Most TH-camrs have to record for very long periods of time and then work for hours editing! We just don't notice because they do such a good job, then we take it for granted! Really try to put your self in their shoes before you comment on vids, this wasn't even a mean one just, chill bro!
I like short episode's its easier for people who has bad internet and markiplayer has to find time to do 1 hour episode's besides its fun subscribe and like markiplayer.
Bunnybird Hours of editing. What. For videos like this (and the majority of any Let's Plays) it's literally taking RAW game footage, slapping it onto a timeline, then overlaying the RAW video from the Face-Cam over the footage and syncing them. The only real editing in this is Mark's ending titles, which he can just do copy-paste into a pre-made format, then slap some audio on there. It's the upload that's tedious, an amateur editor could piece together a simple Let's Play in 30 minutes.
This low point that I'm in right now has been so terrible in my loneliness of starting college. I left a high school with an abundance of friends I was truly blessed to have had, but I have no more. Over this first semester in college I had no friends, never wanted to make friends or do anything. My life consisted of doing homework, working a job that treated me wrongly, having voice lessons, singing and playing video games:) Everything that was good was video games and singing. I was just plain depressed with nothing but the dream of being on stage performing musical theatre. I found your channel from my interest of buying Rust. I found your videos with Bob and instantly wanted to buy the game. The joy that you gave from playing games with friends is contagious. That being said, I wanted to see more of you spreading joy, so I subscribed to your channel. I feel sorta creepy, but I watched so many of your play throughs and other videos about your life. You and your friends really pushed me to go and make friends so I could have as much fun as you guys do. Well all I can say to you is that I look up to you and made some friends. I'm not lonely thank God! My dream of becoming an actor is also been rejuvenated from seeing your "Draw My Life" video which reminds me of the incentive of persevering through the hardest of times. Thank you Markiplier, keep inspiring me.
Mark, I will post this comment to a couple more videos in the near future. Hopefully, this gets a couple likes and you are able to see it. I've been a fan of yours for over a year now. In that time span I have gone through many hardships. Listing from medical problems, to emotional situations involving family/past relationships, to even my mental status as I was diagnosed with depression. With selective people, you being one of them, I have been able to conquer my depression. It is videos like this, play throughs like this that have brought me joy. True, this is a joyful/sentimental game, but I could even watch The Evil Within or Five Nights and still have a smile on my face. Mark, you're like a distant relative to me in ways. You sir have contributed to the better changing of my life. Keep doing what you're doing, because of you my life doesn't B to Blow.
i just got done watching your newest vlog and i felt like this was an appropriate place to say something, considering that river also seems to have autism. if it wasn't clear from my last statement: i have autism. i have alot of trouble talking to people but i feel like this must be said. Markiplier, you are a light in a sea of darkness! i know that is cliche but it is true. before i found your channel i was struggling with life. i have alot of physical symptomes aside from my autism which just made life compleatly miserable. a friend showed me one of your fan's animations and i couldn't stop laughing. i needed to see more of your videos! i have watched every single one. some days i sit and refresh the page in hopes that a new video will show up because you bring that much joy! you always say you will never forget where you started, but i want you to know that i am glad you did.
Some of the piano music in this reminds me of Time Hollow... that's also a really great story based game, and incidentally, it's also about time travel. Very cool, neat art style, neat music, heart-wrenching in many many ways.... I'd highly recommend it.
This is Mark's channel, and he can do what he wants in his videos. If he chooses to make jokes it's his choice. You are entitled to your opinion and so am I.
Mark knows what he's doing ok. Do you want to see a man cry in front of millions of viewers? He understands the proper emotion of this game, but he might remember things in his life that relate to this. He's trying as hard as he can to make this serious and I know that for a fact.
just completed undertale yeserday was damn awesome ( the ending well if i knew the ending would fuck that much with my mind with the " glitch " i wouldnt finish it at my b-day. Playing to the moon now is awesome. But i am from norway what do right next to mean? that it is you second best game... also in this case you prefer undetale just barely?
I have River's condition, known as Aspergers (Autism). My memory is similar to that of River, but unlike her my memory is only long term, so I am terrible with dates. Thus proving the Dr. Rosalene's statement. Not all have a distinct set of memory, but most are often good with some sort of memory, able to recall little details.
was i the only one who just smiled and leaned back as soon as the song "Take Me Anywhere" (the horse one) started playing? that song is so lighthearted and cheerful, yet so relaxing at the same time.
In one of the most recent memories, Johnny confessed something to River and apologized for "tainting their first meeting". Mark realizes that this was what Johnny was referring to, the true reason why he approached River in the first place.
TinyBoxTina it's a bit vague, but basically Johnny doesn't like feeling ordinary and dull, so he is attracted to River because she's different and unique and he thinks that being with her will make people see him as different and unique.
9:56 I smiled such a big goofy grin when Mark announced that he was gone take his pants off first that my sister tried peeking to see what I was watching! XD I bet she thought I was watch Mark twerk (AGAIN!)
It's crazy to look back and see how little information was out there four years ago lol. In case you were curious, Autism just means we see the world in a different way. Just as some people have things in life they struggle with, we struggle with things like eye contact, and sensory input. We also tend to handflap when stressed as a stim. XP It's the most common one, anyways. So yeah! I find it odd that it's labeled as a disorder tbh and... I don't like how most people react to this game? Just because of how poorly it represents the condition? It's like "Yes we think differently, and...?" Aspergers is different! It makes processing and actually intaking things take more focus and study than they should, and non-verbalism varies upon each person and situation. Anyways, thanks for coming to my TED talk!
Equine Therapy is really cool. I wanted to do it for a while but not so much now. The way that horses hips move is the same as how ours move, so equine therapy is typically used with people who can't walk, people with MS who've lost function of their legs, like my mom. Basiclly they get the person on the horse and just have them sit on the horse just to get used to the feel of their legs being spred that far apart, then they start with walking and if they want they go to even higher, faster gaits and can even eventually participate in compitions. Ann Romney had MS and did equine therapy for years.
Mark, with the courtliness being rectangle, I think that was a fourth wall joke. Because its a pixel game, Kan GAO can't make a perfect circle in the basketball court, so he played it as a joke in Johnny's memory.
Equine Therapy is out there, it's just not very well known since it's not a common form of therapy. People with Autism and other types of disorders like Generalized Anxiety Disorder and the like sometimes find the caring and riding of horses calming, and can reach them better than traditional therapy methods. :) Also, It's not nice to tease your lady (or male) fans by mentioning you are no longer wearing pants, ya know. hehe ;p
Ugh... and he was doing so well with taking all the characters and voices seriously. Then he got to the school age part and just fell back into his usual shtick. .___.
He'll probably try to hide it like Pewds :P You know, I usually watch german let's plays, especially the ones of a certain Let's player who is serious as hell as long as game is dissapointing him in any way... Well, a few weeks ago he finished the let's play to "to the moon" and he was crying like a baby. To be honest, a friend on steam was utterly surprised to hear me sobbing and sniffing as I finished the game for the first time. He would never play "to the moon" since he is more into action games and such. Some people just don't know what they are missing.
Yeah, throught the whole voicing parts I was just like "Come on Mark, you were doing so well. I know it's your normal type of thing, but this isn't one of those games that you do it with." Not to mention that he apparently didn't remember that Nick was Johnny's friend when they're adults, so he was portraying Nick as a type of bully thing.
Uwahh, this is so cool. I love stories that seem simple when you first look at them, but then you can dive down into it and break it apart, piece by piece... cool stuff.
I don't know about it being "ok", i mean he clearly felt she was important to him, but the way she acted and all that made it seem like she didn't, and when she refused the treatment in order, basically throwing away her own life in exchange for the lighthouse, he was clearly heartbroken, he wanted to stay with her, but she felt like the lighthouse was more important, ergo, his company was of less value to her than "Anya" was to her. It's what i'm guessing up to this point, so maybe he got fed up with it and contacted these guys, wich i'm guessing are going to make his initial dream come true.
That is so sad, yet makes since. Johnny probably felt a bit betrayed and disappointed that River cared more about the lighthouse than him even though he sacrificed (right word?) his dreams to make everything for her to come true to keep her happy until the end where she basically dies from some sort of sickness. That's what I'm getting.
For me, going to the moon was metaphoric.. I think, base from what we have for now, he wanted to go the moon as a parallel to him wanting to be a "unique" person...But still, a lot of it is still missing. And we will get the answers later, like why he wanted to be unique in the first place. For me, Johnny might be not a bad guy after all, it all just happened in the wrong foot... His dream "to the moon" should explain it... :)
That Hopeful Idiot I personally think her actions are all due to her condition, in which at this point (as everyone has pointed out) is being identified as Asperger. On this vid, it's kinda established that River's "love" for lighthouses predates that of Johnny's for her. Regardless of being considered selfish or not caring about Johnny's feelings, people with Asperger like River tends to get focused on one thing. It doesn't mean that they don't care about everything else, it's just as long as that focus is not being disturbed, they'll function like normal people...which is why Asperger is often considered a high-functioning autism. But having to give up something a person with Asperger is focused about has a bigger toll on that person mentally than normal people. IMO, had River ended up taking the operation and survived, she'd probably be in a vegetative state afterwards since she no longer could get her wish that resulted from her focus on lighthouses. Remember that, at that point, both of them were already too old to save up money to try to finish the house at a later date...and as Izzy (Nick's wife) has hinted, it was after a market crash, so they were probably still in the middle of an economic depression. So, yes, she'd still live, but no longer the River that Johnny knew. Of course...when she died from not taking the operation, she didn't get to live in the house anyway. But here's the thing though: she died knowing that Johnny would still have money left to finish their house. At the least, she died knowing that the possibility of finishing that house didn't die with her. Her very dream was having a house near Anya. Yes, it's too bad Johnny fell second to it but that doesn't mean Johnny didn't mean anything to her. ...which will be revealed later in the game. I assume you haven't played the game so I won't spoil it too much. Yellow, blue, rabbit, lighthouse. Roadkills don't count: if the dead rabbit was important, then there had to be a reason a rabbit is important in the first place. Lastly, the moon. Remember Johnny's words at the beginning of the dive when Eva asked his motivations to go to the moon. Remember what someone said on the day of his wedding. All will be revealed in time.
I'm so excited to watch Mark play the game without knowing the story. This is one of the games I wish I could go back in time and play again without knowing the ending, such an important story.
I had equine therapy for my depression a little bit ago. It runs along the lines of music therapy, art therapy, and plenty of other kinds. Basically the point is to put you around something you are comfortable with so you can speak through anything troubling you, without being scared just sitting on a couch in front of a doctor. (It can vary though, depending on the illness.)
Wow... until the last part of this episode, I kind of hated River but now THE TABLES TURNED This game has a great character developement (PS. I don't care if Mark made fun of it ¬¬ in my country there's a term for people complaining for things that are not so important, and is "hueón grave" and it means something like "serious douche". Sometimes people laugh to cover pain, and I feel kinda blue since the beginning of the week, and Mark dumb voices made me laugh WITHOUT changing the focus of the beauty of the game and the seep story. Calm down guys)
Agreed, the character development is on par with some of the best novelists out there. Also, my headcanon is that Dr. Watts and Dr. Rosaline actually really like each other and only insult each other out of jest.
Thumbs up for you, I agree! How we might look while we enjoy the beauty of the game is different from how others look while still enjoying just as much of the game. I can't believe there is an argument going on here over such a beautiful game!!! @.@ Geeze!
does anyone else feel that the only reason their names are John and River is because of Dr. Who? John Smith is a name that the Doctor uses when he needs to give a sure name, and River Song is his wife. He did reference the T.A.R.D.I.S. before when they were talking about the piano.
Actually, I was thinking of River more as a (possibly coincidental) Firefly reference; in Firefly, River is also highly aloof, unable to comply to social norms, and has incredible memory skills, and can be considered "weird". Also, John is one of the most common first names in the world, so it's probably not a reference.
Mark u have no idea how much your videos help me through a lot of bad things I get bullied at school and people think I'm stupid and I always feel down about it but I get home and watch your videos and I just smile and just am grateful that u make hilarious videos and thank thank u so very much :)
I've volunteered at a horse rescue for years and we've held some Summer courses as well as taken on a few regular students who have mental, emotional, or physical disabilities and used Equine Therapy as the "cure" of sorts. I can relate in an emotional way because revealing emotions to people is not an easy thing for me. I hate trying to explain how I feel in words and since horses don't talk with words, only in actions, it's much easier to make sense of and express how I feel about a current struggle or even just identify what I'm going through so that I can then accept it and figure out what to do from there. :P I've worked with a few teenagers before who all got over their struggles by learning to interact with horses. As one example: It really is incredible to watch someone with an anger problem try to catch a horse who just wants a friend. The horse can tell immediately what that kid's emotions are and books it lol. Frustrating, yes, but if you leave them be long enough the kid usually figures out that the horse isn't running away to be naughty; it's running because it's sensing a threatening emotion. Physically, too, learning to ride horses has helped a ton of people regain feeling in certain limbs or rebuild muscle and be able to move limbs that they weren't able to move before. It's really mind-blowing to witness...and to especially be a part of. :) Horses are pretty nifty creatures and definitely not just for being transportation with personality lol.
i thought she had some form because when they were at the stable its an actual thing to help autistic people I've been to a farm were they have horses for autistic kids also it sounded like she had it because I have autism and I kinda recognized some of the symptoms.
we autistic people have VERY good memory if it's interesting. i remember interesting nerdy facts (there are approx 50 palindromes on a clock, from 1:01-9:59 and one in 11) but if i am try to remember someone's name or face, i just use the generic "you" lol
Shadows337 If one can manage to control it very well, no one can ever pick it up unless it is someone who lives or even specializes in such things. I should know...
Rewatching Markimoo play this game while I do my Astronomy homework. How ironic. This is still one of my favorite games he has done just because of the beautiful music and story.
I'm glad this has longer episodes. I got spoiled by Alien Isolation and The Evil Within. I'm sure they're a pain to edit and store, but the result is definitely worth the trouble. Thanks Mark!
MARK, the game's never gonna tell you so I'll let you know. Attwood is a specialist in ASPERGERS syndrome. It's a spectrum of autism and has a few layers to it. I have aspergers myself, but didn't know it until I found a book about it that my mom was hiding in her closet. Attwood is pretty brilliant in his research. But yeah, its aspergers.
pervasive developmental disorders is an unspecific diagnosis. it contains things such as autism (nice call by the way), childhood disintegrative disorder which is awfully sad (but its almost definitely not that), and Rett's syndrome (Its almost definately Rett's syndrome. Rett's effects the X chromosomes so it typically only effects females. it mostly effects motor skills. this would explain why she kept making origami rabbits.) If it is Rett's syndrome, most likely what she has been trying to show her husband is she actually made the rabbit. Perfectly.
Well the other rabbits don't have any noted defects or flaws, at least none that are noted or deemed important enough to note. The ones she asks to be described are always different from all the rest. Which gives me the feeling its symbolic of herself in some way. How? I dunno. I'm bad at story analysis. Adding in that her sister also has the same disorder apparently but learned to hide it. Making me doubtful its a problem with motor skills.
River does not have Rett's Syndrome. Girls with Rett's have a severe lack of muscle tone, jerky movements, have huge difficulties speaking (or can't speak at all), have Apraxia (Google it), and have tiny heads. And even though most forms of Autism does not actually decrease IQ, Rett's is one of the few exceptions. Last I checked, River doesn't fit any of these descriptions. www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/rett/detail_rett.htm
Rett's would not explain the synonymous relation they seem to refer to between Issabelle's and River's conditions, though... I still say it was just a rather unique form of autism.
cant deal i sit here legit hours on end refreshing the page to see the next video for this series its got me so into it hurry up and upload PART 5 :''O
Lol, looks like youtube added a feature that when you like a comment it makes a weird sound, its really funny xD TH-cam: producing weird things and bugs
Mark, I normally love your silliness in your videos but not for this play through. I wish you could treat this like did with the Last of Us. That play through was the perfect mixture of comedy and seriousness. I'm a little disappointed because i was really looking forward to seeing you enjoy the beauty of this game. In this episode you just seemed more focoused on being funny than really paying attention to the events that are happening (which is a bad thing since this episode is incredibly important to the end of the game). You were doing fine until the end of episode 3 and this episode. Please be more aware of this and continue to play the game. :) P.S: River has Aspergers.
Did you notice that as soon as it came out that John was using River, he stopped doing John's stupid high pitched voice? He started taking it seriously when he realised how deep and serious it was being. He's allowed to have fun and joke around at the moments were it's not too serious as long as he stops as soon as he realises how serious it is. And I believe he did that.
MrReilz I understand what you are saying but I never said he couldn't joke around. I said he should have a stable mix of comedy and seriousness like he did with his Last if Us play through. I just found those voices and the overall episode pretty...I don't want to say obnoxious but really imature, especially since this is such a deep and moving game. If you haven't seen his The Last if Us play through it was absolutely perfect in balancing comedy and seriousness. I was just stating my opinion is all :)
As said before, Mark is allowed to have fun during the game (especially when he is at the end of a long day). By making jokes along the playthrough, he is not making fun of the condition or anything similar, so relax. He is still giving it the right respect.
OOoooo!!!!! I don't understandddddd, what is he using her for and how and where and UGH XD Can't wait til the next episode!!! I NEED to knoww! btw, am I the only one that is perfectly, if not, MORE fine with Mark doing the goofy voices and being goofy for a while, while playing this game? i dont care Mark play it how you want and act how you want.
He thinks that River is different, and wants to use a relationship with her to stand out and not be "just part of a sea of people". When he refuses to read the book about Asperger's, it shows that he liked her for what she had, not just liking her for her. Her differentness, (That's a word now, because I say so) is a lot less special when he finds out other people have the same thing.
Twidgetron You'll know why he feels this way. Is not something so simple as he said. He feels this way cuz of a reason that you'll soon know...he even doesnt know it, but is something that his mind remembers deep inside.
Markimoo, equine therapy is the art of the horse somewhat taking away the troubles of its rider, disabled or not. im barely disabled and i consider it therapy, you should try it, it's so much fun.
"Also having a lovable idiot is great... Too bad we have Neil..."
This sound's like a quote out of Eva's book, if you ask me.
At 9:24 Neil's note changed from "village idiot" to "a pretty cool guy" XD it's only on screen for like a millisecond, no idea how I caught it XD
I saw it too when it flashed by the screen.
Tsundere
HAHA THATS GREAT
I know!lol I saw it too and was like wtf?
"Okay, I'm back and pants-free, so let's continue-"

Did he REALLY have to say that? 😂
+SkylarsaysHELLO mmmmm Well I did to my friend... So um Yes? XD he REALLY had to say that. it would burden his mind if he didnt.
XD
Classic Mark😂

Mark is just Mark 😂
A note to Mark about "horse therapy".
Yes, it does exist. Yes, it does work.
Next time you see a horse, look at how it walks. Very similar in movement to a human's leg movement, yes? This helps disabled people in movement.
The way one sits in the saddle builds muscles, good posture and strength. It builds confidence, self esteem. Riding gives one a chance to relax and have fun. You create a bond with the horse, but you also learn to be responsible and patient.
Case in point: I went to a place that had that as part of the horseback riding program. I actually went there for lessons, not therapy, but I loved it all the same.
manegirl93416 Very interesting :D did not know this.
Yeah my sister is an intern at a ranch that does equine therapy
I’m sure you know now that he went horseback riding after playing red dead 2
No body notices that the colors of her wedding dress are the same colors as the two-toned rabbit. :)
I Noticed! :D
I always thought they were ... different! :D
@@darshiitChopra me too!
RIGHT?! i noticed the same thing! lol, so is the rabbit meant to be a version of her or?
Actually, I'm pretty sure it's confirmed that she has Asperger Syndrome.
RangerSigma Tony Attwood, the mentioned author of the book the doctor gives to River, is a specialist in aspergers research, so yeah, probably that.
(please don't spoil this song for people who don't know what it is yet. Just enjoy remembering 'that' part of the game.) D;
Short steps, deep breaths, everything is alright.
If you're with me, then everything's alright.
;)
You're* and I don't know what the song is.
Dat song tho!!!!! D_=
Well, sh*t! Seems like someone broke TH-cam. I can't get any videos to play. Stupid hackers!!!!! >=( Why would someone do something so terrible??!!! It's almost as if they want to start WWIII!!!!!!!

And yes, having a very detailed and photographic memory and having deep sometimes clingy fascinations with certain objects is part of having PDD also.
Sewing, crafting and cosplay is the best form of therapy :)
It so is.
WhoCares IDo Thank you. Watching this playthrough, I had to share my life experiences growing up with this disorder.
Kohaku Kitsune if you see this,I would like to talk to you.
I know your last post was 6 months ago....here's to hoping
"He's riding a horse into oblivion, what am I supposed to be able to do?"
- Markiplier 2014
Equine therapy is the useage of horses in helping to overcome mental conditions and can be done either on the ground or riding the horse. As I'm doing a degree on Equine Science Complementary Therapy and Natural Horsemanship i'm likely to learn the ins and outs over the course. Horses have certainly helped me make friends through my autism, human and horse alike.
How does it help? Does it shake your brain or something (jklol)?
HitomiNoRyu They certainly helped me and they still are, in fact. I've made at least 3 friends so far in my uni course that are horses. :)
HitomiNoRyu Didn't think about it that way. Thank you for the insight.
*****...People like you disappoint me. Why would you want to eat such a beautiful creature?
i have a feeling you are a brony
There should SO be a film made of this...
Yeah I know I was thinking that too
+Ollie Stevens or an anime.
Krilkaazzoor Yeah :)
+Ollie Stevens The bad thing about making a film out of this is that a lot of it would have to be removed and some things would need to be changed. That's how film adaptations are made. If we want to maintain the our opinions on this amazing story, its best not to touch it.
SonoBryce Good point
Omg A lot of people think Neil is stupid and Mean but he is like my favorite character in the game so far XD
I mean he was on the horse backwards... I feel like that would be me
hahahah saaaame
Neil is definitely me, lol
+Webkinz Roze LOL, he's not stupid and mean, just super snarky. XD
I dont hate on him but he´s not my favo
I LOVE HIM SO MUCH
Yeah, River has Asperger's, no question about it. Tony Attwood wrote books on Asperger's and he's known for his studies in Asperger's
Thank you for that
It kinda makes me feel weird since I have Asperger's as well and I can then relate to her and the people talking about her...
The humor in this game is fucking gold.
He did truly come to love her
He just was in denial about her condition. And yes, there is A LOT more to their story
Tsukino Hitusguya Please no spoilers. I'm going to ride this emotional roller coaster as much as I can. The way he started the relationship was beyond fucked up, but I'm glad he came to love her.
KipperTheArt Oh don't worry, I don't believe in spoilers. :)
Just sit back and enjoy the game :)
It'll all make sense soon enough don't you worry c:
And it'll all wreck you.
I'm thinking the same; River may have Asbergers.
i have a 168 iq but i think i may have some form of autism because i too have acute sensitivities and lack that social je ne sais quoi, and i feel like my intelligence often goes under the rug in the face of my flaws, maybe i'ts just the psychosis, or schizophrenia, that would still cause thesse problems, and i was diagnosed with both. so i dunno, all i do know is i'm not gonna let my instabilities and scuffmarks stop me from truckin' that's for sure ~-O
you're definitely right. having aspbergers is rough. especially when coupled with disorders like bipolar and ADHD (both of which I have along with aspbergers) and though we appear normal for most, we still struggle. there are days when I just want to curl up and be left alone. especially when people look at me and treat me differently after they find out my diagnosis. most of my family still don't understand that what to do with me when I visit. and I agree with you, Zentanimation. this game has captured how it feels to be autistic wonderfully. he hit the nail right on the head with this game in all its beauty
How to watch Markipliers videos:
Step 1: click on the video.
Step 2: brace yourself for dramatic story reading ahead.
Step 3: enjoy.
PS. Can't wait till we find out what her illness is, the suspense is killing me.
might be dementia
Something Something Butterfly I actually thought about that but you see I'm not sure I want to know before the story itself gets to that point. Maybe without knowing it would be more entertaining. Basically I'm torn.
PFC. Seymour and now I would have to Google what exactly does it mean to have it. But thanks.
Still loving this series. As an aside, Mark, that voice you do for Johnny really makes me want to go back and revisit your "OFF" playthrough.
When he started to do that voice, I was like, "Did he really just give Johnny and elsen voice?"
I've googled about that Pervasive developmental disorder and it seems Mark called it. The 4 main types of PDD are Autism, Asperger syndrome, Rett syndrome and Childhood dis-integrative disorder or CDD
Also, Tony Attwood is an author on a few books about Aspergers
*spolier kinda I think* Now that you've mentioned it, I seem to remember it being mentioned at some point that's its aspergers she has.
Aronokami
No, they never said it in the game, but the comment section did xD
wow i have that but im not like that
Bas Bruines no one person with Aspergers is the same >.>
Mark:"watching old videos is like watching me from the past"
The description: *uploaded 7 years ago*
I always take off my pants when I watch Mark's videos. It just doesn't feel right leaving them on.
No idea who you are but still good luck with you two
24:13 Story of my life, I NEVER know how to make a simple answer without feeling like I have to explain it to the point I might as well be making a documentary.
Nice to see that I'm not the only one around who just thought the same at this scene.^^
I feel you. I hate feeling this way every single time someone asks me what something is or to describe it/them.
Same here. either i say "i don't know" even though i know, or i make a fuckin' documentary. then there is the elusive "yes" or "no".
I know. Aspergers considered part of PDD
***** as a diagnosed high-functioning aspergian, i can say that you are correct.

Yes, this inaccurate diagnosis is why my younger brother with autism is 20 years old, built like a football linebacker, but only has the mentality of someone of about 5 or 6.
As a doctor put it "You're in the painful section of knowing you have the problem of knowing what's wrong with you but have to watch as it disables your life."
Common insult I've heard are "You're just lazy." or "You just need to go out and do it."
Next time you think that, imagine putting on boxing gloves, having to type an essay, and then getting scolded and berated for every single mistake you make.
It's a horrible life to live and I don't recommend it to anyone.
Aspergers was dropped as an official diagnosis by the american psychiatric association in may.
I'm just watching this playthrough for the billionth time (at the horse riding moment). And a thought occurred to me. If To the Moon were ever to get a movie adaptation, just how absolutely perfect Markiplier would be to be casted as the actor for Neil.
Something interesting to note:
At 0:21, one of the lines of code for the memory-jump software says the following curious message:
"Step twice in the river of life"
Foreshadowing? Plot point? Easter egg? Either way, it's cool.
That might relate to how John is basically living a second life, by altering his memories, with a pun on River's name?
***** wow you're so good at keeping spoilers away thanks
***** yeah
it seems to say it every time they jump through time
***** I'd already watched a play-through before but thanks. I guess it's up to your interpretation and that's how I read it.
9:22
When you mouse over the note about Neil it now says, "A pretty cool guy.".
I really like Neil, this is accurate. :3
Equine as in horse, so, horse therapy. That's why there was a memory of them riding horses.
Its is Asbergers. Tony Attwood is real author on the subject
Also the fact that she keeps the same platypus doll for her entire life, and how they were surprised that a girl had it. I believe most people with it are boys.
Snowy Blaze Cool. I didn't know that.
Charlotte Saunders yep
Didn't think I'd meet someone with the same condition I have on the Internet.
Mark: "I'm going to blink everyone out of existence, just like what I'm going to do to you!" *pokes*
Me: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" *disappears*
Awww, Mark doesn't like Neil. That's a shame. Neil is great. Best character. Reminds me of me
lol, yea I like Neil too. I think I like him more than the girl.
Neil is like me aswell
Naaa I think that Mark will definitely change his mind about Neil and Eva
Yeah! He's just a wacky idiot(not in a bad way)
Choco Tammy ... That's not really what I was talking about but ok!
I said it twice before, and I'll say it again.
You wanna know what I think? You really wanna know what I think? I think....hour long episodes! :D
Agreed. I wanna know what happens! ; ;
No way!! that'll stress the heck out of him!
MrStoryMaster Did you graduate with a major in douchebaggery?
Eagles in your heart and butterflies in your soul. Markiplier's body must be an entire ecosystem!
One of the best playthroughs you've done, it's so heart warming and such a great story with that build up though.
I'm so exited for the next part!
Me too.
same here

(That's it XD)
VIDKitty562 It is ^^
Kenny Plummer This series is already finished. You know that, right?
i just got done watching your newest vlog and i felt like this was an appropriate place to say something, considering that river also seems to have autism. if it wasn't clear from my last statement: i have autism. i have alot of trouble talking to people but i feel like this must be said.
"WATCHING MY OLD VIDEOS IS LIKE WATCHING ME IN THE PAST"
7 years later.
Some of the piano music in this reminds me of Time Hollow... that's also a really great story based game, and incidentally, it's also about time travel. Very cool, neat art style, neat music, heart-wrenching in many many ways.... I'd highly recommend it.
Dude, Markiplier, I actually liked it when you took the voices and gameplay seriously...
***** I don't get it. I understand the game's story so far, but why would he cry over it?
***** Fair enough. I haven't played the game so I can't say tht it won't have me feeling emotional later on.
Yeah, I'm with you.
1:49
Mark's reaction to that car though! xD
"Horse- :D"
"HEEY!! >:O"
This is my fave game. Right next to Undertale
samee
just completed undertale yeserday was damn awesome ( the ending well if i knew the ending would fuck that much with my mind with the " glitch " i wouldnt finish it at my b-day.
"It helps to have a lovable idiot, too bad we just have Neil."
Markiplier, you're savage!
Am I the only person who doesn't understand what Mark realised towards the end? Will somebody please explain to me what was realised there?
can someone also explain to me?
Yeah me too please
In one of the most recent memories, Johnny confessed something to River and apologized for "tainting their first meeting". Mark realizes that this was what Johnny was referring to, the true reason why he approached River in the first place.
Mariana A
But what was that reason? That's the bit I don't understand.
It's like "Yes we think differently, and...?"
Aspergers is different! It makes processing and actually intaking things take more focus and study than they should, and non-verbalism varies upon each person and situation. Anyways, thanks for coming to my TED talk!
Going to the theatre by yourself IS awesome Mark! Finally, I'm not alone on this!
They should make a movie of this game!
Dude the whole time I'm trying to imagine this as an anime! It's so- just- ah!!! Try it!
Empherial I would gladly watch it. The anime would be emotional. Damn the story tho.
Empherial True...
bit late maybe, but they're making an anime movie out of it :D
"Then go get a hat, Sherlock."
I have no words on how I should react to that xD
9:57
1,000,000 fangirls just fainted
Equine Therapy is really cool. I wanted to do it for a while but not so much now. The way that horses hips move is the same as how ours move, so equine therapy is typically used with people who can't walk, people with MS who've lost function of their legs, like my mom. Basiclly they get the person on the horse and just have them sit on the horse just to get used to the feel of their legs being spred that far apart, then they start with walking and if they want they go to even higher, faster gaits and can even eventually participate in compitions. Ann Romney had MS and did equine therapy for years.
OMG dis cliffhanger is killing me!! Don't take too long to make part 5! > < I'm getting so into this game as much as you are lol.
Mark, with the courtliness being rectangle, I think that was a fourth wall joke. Because its a pixel game, Kan GAO can't make a perfect circle in the basketball court, so he played it as a joke in Johnny's memory.
Yessssssssss.
Tony Attwood is a real person, so if you looked him up, that would tell you what River's condition is. :)
Markiplier! You inspired me to start making Videos! I can't thank you enough for That!
Also I'm really loving this series! Keep it up (: !
Your most recent video was Too Funny! XD
Why, when you see an amazing youtuber, you decided to try and
compete?
I like fruit i like fruit and i put it in my boot
I was also inspired by Mark to make videos!
Making videos is by far one of the best hobbies you could do!
I really want to make videos too, but i dont know everything I'd need... Can anyone give me a few tips?
The relationship between the doctors is amazing, it feels like friends teasing teach other, not many games have dialog that realistic.
The music in the game instantly changes my mood. I love the music so much.
Equine Therapy is out there, it's just not very well known since it's not a common form of therapy. People with Autism and other types of disorders like Generalized Anxiety Disorder and the like sometimes find the caring and riding of horses calming, and can reach them better than traditional therapy methods. :)
Also, It's not nice to tease your lady (or male) fans by mentioning you are no longer wearing pants, ya know. hehe ;p
"see you in the previous video" i laughed harder than i should have at that xD
Ugh... and he was doing so well with taking all the characters and voices seriously. Then he got to the school age part and just fell back into his usual shtick. .___.
I guess this will change again once he get's closer to the end...
He'll probably try to hide it like Pewds :P
You know, I usually watch german let's plays, especially the ones of a certain Let's player who is serious as hell as long as game is dissapointing him in any way...
I know it's your normal type of thing, but this isn't one of those games that you do it with."
Not to mention that he apparently didn't remember that Nick was Johnny's friend when they're adults, so he was portraying Nick as a type of bully thing.
***** Please, none of that, I already marked 4 comments on here as spam because they were purely advertising -_-
Can you guys help me reach 0 subs thanks
Uwahh, this is so cool. I love stories that seem simple when you first look at them, but then you can dive down into it and break it apart, piece by piece... cool stuff.
Mark I have to say this series really hits my heart and almost makes me cry
If this game made Cryaotic cry, Mark's gonna have a fricken' meltdown.
i used to work in equine therapy oh i'm so happy they mentioned it i loved all the people i got to help and (most of) my coworkers
I don't know what I should think about this theory of yours... It's too sad...
That Hopeful Idiot
I personally think her actions are all due to her condition, in which at this point (as everyone has pointed out) is being identified as Asperger.
Wow...
until the last part of this episode, I kind of hated River
but now THE TABLES TURNED
This game has a great character developement
(PS.
Ooh and John writes a SONG for River :D wow you might be right
Actually, I was thinking of River more as a (possibly coincidental) Firefly reference; in Firefly, River is also highly aloof, unable to comply to social norms, and has incredible memory skills, and can be considered "weird".
Also, John is one of the most common first names in the world, so it's probably not a reference.
ZetaPrime9699 I thought of Firefly's River too! mostly because I loved Firefly and that River and could care less about Doctor Who lmao
THE CREATORS A WHOVIAN OH MA LAWRD!
I feel relevant.
Noo not the bunny D:
You again 0.o
Hey Instagamerr
your the same person that people got mad at on gassymexican channel i just realized. yeah thats a bad comment section for you
-.-
Gabe Newell That's pretty legit.
I've worked with a few teenagers before who all got over their struggles by learning to interact with horses.
Mark needs a kid tv show to voice act in
Tony Attwood is a real person :)
He wrote real books about Asperger's syndrome
PoisonTheOgres may I ask, what is asperger's syndrome?
Echolovania Smith It's what River has. It's a form of autism
PoisonTheOgres oh thank you for that
i thought she had some form because when they were at the stable its an actual thing to help autistic people I've been to a farm were they have horses for autistic kids also
it sounded like she had it because I have autism and I kinda recognized some of the symptoms.
@Spirit Draws They actually named it in the game. Equine therapy.
we autistic people have VERY good memory if it's interesting. i remember interesting nerdy facts (there are approx 50 palindromes on a clock, from 1:01-9:59 and one in 11) but if i am try to remember someone's name or face, i just use the generic "you" lol
Funny thing is that I know someone who can remember every room to every house he's been to.
Ha, same with me!
Shadows337 If one can manage to control it very well, no one can ever pick it up unless it is someone who lives or even specializes in such things. I should know...
***** which makes them have better memory at said topic. science stuff that goes in my mind never comes back out.
wat
Rewatching Markimoo play this game while I do my Astronomy homework. How ironic.
This is still one of my favorite games he has done just because of the beautiful music and story.
I'm glad this has longer episodes. I got spoiled by Alien Isolation and The Evil Within. I'm sure they're a pain to edit and store, but the result is definitely worth the trouble. Thanks Mark!
Come fly with me, come fly, let's fly away!
Shhhh....!
:)
It's more or less a common and high-functioning form of aspergers, but it doesn't make it any easier to live with.
BenevolentRose
I'm sorry. Form of AUTISM.
You are ugly lmao
Daniel Laboy Ah. Thank you.
You should make more videos, the most recent video that u have made was 3 years ago.........
pervasive developmental disorders is an unspecific diagnosis. it contains things such as autism (nice call by the way), childhood disintegrative disorder which is awfully sad (but its almost definitely not that), and Rett's syndrome (Its almost definately Rett's syndrome. Rett's effects the X chromosomes so it typically only effects females. it mostly effects motor skills. this would explain why she kept making origami rabbits.)
If it is Rett's syndrome, most likely what she has been trying to show her husband is she actually made the rabbit. Perfectly.
www.webmd.com/brain/autism/development-disorder
Bird O Brine Aspergers
Rett's would not explain the synonymous relation they seem to refer to between Issabelle's and River's conditions, though... I still say it was just a rather unique form of autism.
4 years ago i watched this, I still love it thank you mark!
cant deal i sit here legit hours on end refreshing the page to see the next video for this series its got me so into it hurry up and upload PART 5 :''O
Maaark why did you cut the part where you take your pants off? :3
lmfao
That's what I'm saying! XD

Lol, looks like youtube added a feature that when you like a comment it makes a weird sound, its really funny xD
TH-cam: producing weird things and bugs
I dont eaven want your likes xD i was just kidding
Pvt. Leonard L. Church -.-
God Damn it my name is Neil :) and Mark told me to shut up :( guess I'll go and sit in a corner then
Shut up, Neil!
Bot Force god damn it I walk into that one :)
The Gamingnator Speak up, Neil!
Lol
I like how Mark has a little party each time he prepares the memento and solves the puzzle correctly.
14:21 Mark: " I blinked everyone out of existence, just like I do now! POKE!"
(Loses all his subscribers)
Mark, I normally love your silliness in your videos but not for this play through. I wish you could treat this like did with the Last of Us. That play through was the perfect mixture of comedy and seriousness. I'm a little disappointed because i was really looking forward to seeing you enjoy the beauty of this game. In this episode you just seemed more focoused on being funny than really paying attention to the events that are happening (which is a bad thing since this episode is incredibly important to the end of the game). You were doing fine until the end of episode 3 and this episode. Please be more aware of this and continue to play the game. :)
P.S: River has Aspergers.
Don't be such a hippie
Miss Sasha Shush jordan. I was just stating my opinion.
OFF. Reference to that game is the only thing I need to say in support of what you just said. :)
I'm a huge FF fan. Is this worth playing?
Markimoo, equine therapy is the art of the horse somewhat taking away the troubles of its rider, disabled or not. im barely disabled and i consider it therapy, you should try it, it's so much fun.
I love this lets play. The smile mark gets whilst he's playing this is lovely. The game has such a beautiful story. Great video mark!!!
